Modeling disaster stories?
ZTony8 replied to JPS_Lotus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave, those kits are my life insurance policy.I plan to live to be 400 and build them all.So far,so good. -
And to think the Hindustan's technology is newer than an original VW Beetle.

Google Self-Driving Car..
ZTony8 replied to DrGlueblob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder if a driverless car will blindly follow navigation directions from one of those flawed mapping systems(like some drivers have) and end up in a lake,a ditch,or against a tree? -
Modeling disaster stories?
ZTony8 replied to JPS_Lotus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave-only 15 kits?Good thing he didn't have my stash of 1300 kits to mess up! I recently had a minor disaster.I was painting a Model A firewall with some flat gray paint and decided to try shooting the gloss coat over it while the gray was still wet.Bad idea-the gray started to run and pulled away from the features on the firewall.Fortunately,no harm done.I just waited until it all dried, reshot the gray, then waited for it to dry before I shot the gloss coat.Lesson learned. -
That color /trim combination is often found on late 60s Cadillacs.

If you're gonna do a black car you can't beat Tamiya TS-14 gloss black. That stuff goes on soooooooo nicely and requires little,if any, polishing.

That old Ford is the rolling equivalent of the woodsman's axe-"Changed the blade twice and the handle three times but it's still the same old axe!" -

Most of my foreign kits have the instructions printed in English,French, German, and Japanese. This kit has them in Japanese,English,and..................Russian!First time I've seen that.Gotta love it! -
Le Mans the movie
ZTony8 replied to Psychographic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It has by far the best racing scenes of any movie I've seen.It also has NO plot,no dialog until about 25 minutes into the movie, and those long scenes of the characters pensively staring at something are oh so late 60s movie making. -
Kits you have, that you will never build

LOL,Yeah,Mark, you're right-next show,no Lookee Lous. "Step right up and feast your eyes on the world's ugliest Charger kit!Only twenty five cents for a thirty second perusal of a kit guaranteed to turn your stomach!" -
It's a shortened Waldorf Nomad!

I've got the roadster version, partially completed.I haven't decided on a paint scheme yet but it's not staying white.I'm leaning toward a darker color to try to minimize the bulky appearance of the car.But I may go bright in color, ala the Miami Vice era of the car.

Too many projects going on.

Technically, all 1200 of my kits are projects. Some are just more started than others. -

A while back I had an MPC Manta Ray Corvette custom kit bought as part of a collection(the one based off of a mid 60s Vette). It was still factory sealed.I was half tempted to open it and see what it looked like and maybe build it.But I realized that if I did that a good portion of the value as an unbuilt kit would go away.So I sold it.Later on a fellow modeler found one opened and I finally got to see the contents. It wasn't all THAT fantastic so I'm glad I sold it. A friend of mine has one of those "Mean Maverick' funny cars unbuilt. That's one he'll never build. -

I've got an unstarted MPC '71 Charger kit with the fogged paint job on it(the butterscotch colored body with black fogging-and an orange interior!).I've been trying to peddle this thing for over two years at our toy shows without any luck.I'm at the point of just building the thing but if I do build it I HAVE to paint the thing. It's just too ugly to leave as molded. But if I do that then no one will ever know it was this "uniquely" painted model. What to do? -
I recently saw an article about this car that stated it was still sitting in a warehouse awaiting action for it to be placed somewhere. It also seems that, because of deaths, there's some question about who truly owns the car.

To smooth the paint use a polishing kit.Start with 3600 or 4000 grit depending on how much dirt or orange peel is in the clear coat. You can always go back to a 3200 or lower number grit if the finer cloth doesn't take away as much as you want to remove. Then continue up to the 12000 grit, then polish, then wax.

Jesse, here's an idea for you-Get one of the die cast Corvettes and make it a rust bucket. That'll make observers scratch their heads!

Surprisingly overwhelmed.
ZTony8 replied to Arbatron's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You have to crawl before you walk and walk before you run.Start simply with a box stock model then expand to kit bashing, adding aftermarket items, then maybe some scratch building. -
My model desk and stash is in my very chilly basement. So I don't get too much done, unfortunately, during the winter. It gets way too cold to be down there very long(and, yes,it IS heated down there)and when summer comes and the A/C is on in the house it's STILL cold down there even with the outlets closed.I put a roof on my garage last year so I'll be able to paint out there(out of the wind)instead of on the windy patio this year.

I wonder how many of deaths included contributory negligence on the part of the driver of the vehicle.I read of one instance where the kid was drunk and speeding when the vehicle left the road and made contact with a tree.Could there be more?If there is then any judgement against GM should be reduced for that negligence.

Condition? What condition? We're just investing in styrene futures, that's all.

"Holy grail" of muscle cars discovered
ZTony8 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not 100% up on my early F body history so I don't know if Firebirds were also made in Van Nuys,California right from the start of 1967 model year production. If so, there were TWO body #1 cars, one from each plant. The two cars on the show were made in Lordstown,Ohio. -
Yes.That's the explanation for my 6 Revell '57 Chevy 150 kits,5 Revell '49 Mercury kits,and a bunch of AMT '70 Chevelles.
