  1. Are the Eldorados destined to be diecasts or plastic kits?
  2. I found out today where the nearest Ollie's is in my area(I didn't even realize they were here in Michigan).Gonna try and hit it on Saturday when I go to Hobby Lobby since I saw that they're about 5 minutes apart.
  3. Go to your local GM dealer and see if they'll give you some of their ignition lock cylinder tumbler springs. They should have plenty extra from the recent recall. They're a bit long as is for 1/24 & 1/25 scale throttle linkages but could be cut down. They're a good size for larger scales if used uncut.
  4. Mark from Australia-your model is an AMX,not a Javelin.
  5. The AMT '57 Chrysler 300( pre painted version). That thing fought me at every step.Nothing fit and I never could get the front suspension together. It's still sitting, partially built, waiting to be a parts kit. p.s.-I don't think I've seen one of these where the front suspension didn't look like it had excess negative camber and loose front wheels.
  6. You saved yourself much work by not puttying the joint on the rear spoiler.I puttied mine and sanding and painting the inside of the spoiler was a character builder!
  7. At our club meeting last Sunday we compared the Revell '67 Camaro,'68 Firebird, and '69 Camaro kits.We found three noticeably different chassis plates(the new '67 Camaro having the least sharp engraving-somewhat a surprise) and saw that the engines in the Camaros were done differently(the '69 has the old style split oil pan molded to the block, the '67 has a separate pan. The question is why do a new chassis plate for the '67 kit since Revell already had two others available ?Seems to me that tooling money could have been saved to add other features to the new kit. Or am I wrong about that? The engine in the '67 kit is an improvement over the '69 kit so I could see that change.
  8. Some of us in the D.A.A.M. club compared the kit to the Young American kit and an original issue Wynns Charger(mine). The frame in the reissue is the Young American frame which is slightly different from the original Wynns Charger-there is different bracing underneath and the axle prongs are different.
  9. The emission from the horse in the Mustang grille should be coming from the other end.
  10. The AMT '67 Fairlane had a clear hood.Fujimi made(makes?) a clear bodied Ferrari 126c in a couple of versions. Does the bubble top from the Monogram '58 Thunderbird count?Or the Beatnick Bandit and Orbitron bubble tops?
  11. Jo-han didn't always get it right.See the incorrectly sized '62 Cadillac.
  12. Once the 200 people who want a new NASCAR kit are satisfied, the kits will languish on store shelves and eventually end up in the $3 or less range at toy shows.
  13. I'm a GM dealer parts guy who's been handing out many of the parts for the various recalls. The problem for these recalls begins when the public gets wind of them and starts bugging the dealers about parts availability. Most of the time we don't get the parts until several weeks after the recalls are announced (or leaked). After the initial batch of parts is sent out the parts often go on backorder. Then we wait some more until the next batch arrives. There are some rcalls where parts must be special ordered for each customer. Many customers are now getting the letters about upcoming recalls with the notice that parts aren't yet available. This a small step towards doing things better .But the best thing that could happen is that the dealers are notified of the recalls and recieve parts within a day or two of the public announcement of the recalls,if not beforehand.
  14. Some of those look like the built ups I still have from my childhood.I coulda been the mayor of Gluebomb City.
  15. While I can applaud the idea of a pre painted kit for the younger builders who are just going to slap the kit together in 15-30 minutes and roll it around on a floor, they're not really useful for modelers who have some experience. One of the first things to be done to a model is to remove the mold lines-usually easily done on an unpainted kit.But do that to a painted kit and it renders the pre painting aspect useless when the color disappears along with the mold lines. So there's no point in an experienced modeler buying a painted kit unless the subject is unavailable any other way.
  16. It's been said that the quality of Ferraris greatly improved under di Montezemolo's watch. He had purchased a 348 and said it was one of the worst cars he ever owned. Let's hope that under Emperor Sergio that the quality doesn't once again nosedive in the single minded pursuit of profit.
  17. That central mounting tab is for that old metal clip that AMT used to use for keeping hoods open. The hole at the right front could have been made at any time. This roof section just looks like a well done cut job.
  18. Your aircraft experience has put you in good stead. That's such clean painting you've done.I wish I could be that neat.
  19. Yes,it's back.I saw it yesterday at a local hobby shop.
  20. I bought the revised kit yesterday and had to dig out my original Pro Modeler version for comparison.I didn't look for the difference in the seats but I did catch the altered quarter panel. I'm thinking that the nameless tires might not be a completely bad thing(the Goodyear name having been excised from the kit tires) .Firestone was still very cozy with Ford back then(William Clay Ford was married to Martha Firestone) so I wonder if the real Fords were ever produced with other brands of tires beside Firestones.Now-does anyone know if Firestone is as greedy as Goodyear when it comes to licensing?
  21. If your affected area is small you can possibly sand and polish it out without too much drama. If you sand through to primer or bare plastic you can re-spray a larger area(but be careful where you mask-Tamiya paint tends to soften tape adhesive and you may end up with a bigger mess than you had at first. If you sand through on a very small area it's possible to just brush apply some Tamiya lacquer and it will blend in very well(I have first hand knowledge of this having had to do it more than once) and leave virtually no trace of where you did the repair.
  22. If that's what someone wants to do,why not? It's their stuff.
  23. Nice looking so far but $10?Ouch.It's tough to get $5 for them here(metro Detroit),$3 is more the rate and usually you're lucky to get that price.Mostly they're used as gag prizes at model club meetings(where that''s not appreciated at all) or as parts kits.
  24. The old Monogram '30 Model A touring kit (with the multiple variations)would be closer.Just try to find one at less than predatory pricing.
  25. Some of the Tamiya Skyline kits have engines, the Calsonic Group A and N race cars and a street version coming immediately to mind. However, these are basically stock versions and are lacking pieces -mainly in the fuel system.
