What a nice looking car. Charlie Larkin

Geoff, outstanding work. I have a couple of questions for you. 1. What did you use for a ratio for mixing the lighter blue for the interior between the metallic blue and aluminum? 2. What did you use for the darker color? Charlie Larkin

Very nice work on that so far. I really like what I see. Charlie Larkin

Revell '50 Oldsmobile Club Coupe 2'n1

I saw the test shots at NNL-East yesterday. Folks, you are in for a treat! Unquestionably, one of the nicest kits I've ever seen. Very nice molding, excellent detail. You will enjoy what you get, and Ed Sexton and I were talking for a moment. We're betting on seeing Holidays, convertibles, fastbacks and 4-doors from the aftermarket....and he really liked Motor City's resin and casting quality...Jeff, you may have another looming partnership. Dreaming of a model?

I like the Minor and the Empress. I belive you could buy those in the U.S., too, so if they were made with LHD dash, so much the better. Charlie Larkin -
I must agree, very nicely done. Charlie Larkin

*Rimshot.* Beautiful turn of phrase. Charlie Larkin

How about a 1953 Eldorado? That's one car I've wanted in plastic since I was a kid, along with an Olds Fiesta and Buick Skylark. Charlie Larkin

Unfortunately, I used most of my travel budget for NNL-East, barring a massive cash infusion...like a decent job or a winning lottery ticket! Also, this will be the weekend immediately after my darling's rather major surgery, and I'll be helping to take care of her. Have fun, guys. Maybe next year, I'll be able to make it down! I enjoyed seeing friends, grabbing a couple of deals yesterday, and still leaving with a heavier wallet than I came with! The only problems I had yesterday. 1. I went to load my camera, and discovered the battery was dead! ARRGH! 2. Went to the City afterwards to see my closest friend, who now lives there. The tolls in were simply breathtaking. $12.50 for the Lincoln Tunnel, $6.50 each way for the little tunnel that went over to Red Hook, Brooklyn, and $6.00 for the Whitestrone. That aside, great day, I had a good travel companion and a lot of fun. I can't wait for next year. Charlie Larkin

That Beetle doesn't look so girly.....well, other than the pink interior! All kidding aside, very nice job on that and congratulations on the place. Charlie Larkin

OT: Humber pitches a perfect game!

Definitely not an achievement to be scoffed at, no matter who does it. Cogratulations to him. This is the first I've heard about it since I was on the road most of yesterday. -
'85 Cutlass Resin Body
charlie8575 replied to TooOld's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A very true and wise statement. Although I think a lot of the stories of 1970s-80s cars are ones of confusion and misread queues, they do also tell the story of what happens when too many cooks attempt to stir the pot. There were some nice cars, and some that were well-designed and thought out, to be sure, but many were, as noted, a product of their times- confusion, panic, a loss of our collective way. They deserve to be memorialized...as much as they are part of history as to remind us all that we were in a dark place automotively-speaking, and while there's some debate as to whether we still are or not, they were what pointed us to where we are now. '85 Cutlass Resin Body
charlie8575 replied to TooOld's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As I slot almost exactly in between Jonathan and Rob in age, I'll actually say I LOVE cars of the 1940s-60s, and even before. I didn't like most of the cars I grew up with, I found most of them uninspired and lost in a sea of sameness. That said, I always liked the G-body coupes. Yes, a little GM cookie-cutter, but I always thought they were a clean, well-designed car. We had two Cutlasses, and they were good, solid cars that lasted us a long time. I'd buy multiple cases of those Cutlasses if someone ever did it, so I could build all the trim variants and a lot of the colors, and, if feeling particularly adventurous, might try to make a sedan out of the coupe. Paint Strippers - What to Use?
charlie8575 replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
So, it appears to work well on chrome, most solvent enamels, and selectively on lacquers. The chrome stripping is quite good, I must agree there. For the price, you won't go wrong at least trying it. Oh...and their stain remover for the laundry is very good, too. Charlie Larkin -
Couple of small corrections: The standard tires on the Cutlasses through about 1982 were P185/75R14, with P19575R14 being the far more commonly-ordered option. P205/75R14 and P205/70R14 were also available. Hurst/Olds and 4-4-2s used P215/65R15. Oldsmobiles did in fact, use mostly Olds V8s. The 260 and the 307. The 305 was offered from 1978-80, and then in the Hurst/Olds in 1983-84. The Olds V8s are visibly different than a Chevy V8. The standard automatic was usually a TH200/200C, with the 200R4 available from 1984-'88, and the only choice in 1988 as the Cutlass Supreme Classic with the 307 standard. Occasionally, a TH350 would be seen on some V8 cars. Charlie Larkin

More evidence that... A. This car would sell in plastic if done right. B. The model manufacturers still seem to have bouts of tone-deafness. Charlie Larkin
