  1. Nice work, Mike. That color really does work well on that body-style, too. Charlie Larkin
  2. As they're all A-bodies, it could conceivably work. Some facts and figures to keep in mind.... Dimension/area of different Chevy Olds 1951 dimensions used 1950/51 dimensions used as noted Wheelbase 115” 119 ½” (1949-50,) 120” (1951) Overall length 197 13/16 (including bumpers) 204” (1951) Width Not listed 76” (1951) It'll probably work, but like Rob said, may take a little massaging. 3. Will the '52 sedan be available in rep-stock, too? Charlie Larkin
  4. Do that rep-stock, and I'll buy a case of them! Charlie Larkin
  5. I use my computer. I don't have, or want, all the rest of the electronic junk that's out-of-date and obsolete between rushing home from paying obscenely high amounts of money for it and opening the box. I still shoot film. I prefer a telephone with metal chassis and compenents, and heav(ier) wires and magnets. I still use a typewriter for a lot of things. I do my drafting with pencil. I try to not become so overly-dependent on computer and other modern electronics that when something happens, you become paralyzed. My friends laugh at me. Until it happens to them. Charlie Larkin
  6. Interesting about the Car 54 car. Nice work on all of it, Terry, as it always is. Charlie Larkin
  7. I'll echo Neil as a current member of MassCar. IPMS has been very good to MassCar, and most of the military modeling clubs near us are on excellent terms with us. We all enter each other's shows, have fun together and help each other. IPMS does have its share of pains in the rear, to be sure, but overall, we've found the experience very positive. The insurance alone makes it worthwhile. Charlie Larkin
  8. I want my 88! Mainly so I can cobble up the parts to build a 76 Club Coupe (the six-cylinder variant.) Charlie Larkin
  9. Christian, your ideas and mine are frighteningly similar! I wouldn't mind a scale Bettie Page, either. Charlie Larkin
  10. So that's who Heather learned how to drive from! Charlie Larkin
  11. I like that blue. This will be nice when you're done, Mark. Charlie Larkin
  12. Mike, very interesting post and points you've made, and largely so very true. One of the reasons news, in so many respects really isn't anymore. It's become fluff and fluster, not so much solid, investigative or expository reporting. For the record, when I lived in New Beford, I used to subscribe to the Standard-Times. An excellent newspaper with superb local and regional coverage. Bob Frias, who is from New Bedford originally, I think will probably agree. But, yes, I do read the papers from other parts of the country. It's interesting to see what's going on elsewhere, different regional practices, and sometimes, based on some political stories I've read, to remind myself that Massachusetts doesn't have a monopoly on corrupt dolts. It just seems like it sometimes. Charlie Larkin
  13. I always enjoyed your muscle car articles George, and it's nice to see you back. Nice work. Charlie Larkin
  14. My beloved Heather, who, at 29, is as big a kid as they come! I, on the other hand, most people will contend, was born ready for social security! Chronologically, though, Every so often I'll see kids at hobby shops and other places were kits can be found buying them. A lot of time, I'll see parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents buying, and I'll try to help them as much as I can. At MassCar, we didn't have a big youth turnout this year, but those that were there were quite enthusiastic. It might never return to the 1950s and '60s in numbers, but I believe the core of enthusiastic participants, regardless of age, will never go away.
  15. This is a nice story to start my Sunday with. Good for you, and hopefully good for the hobby! Charlie Larkin
  16. I could actually see Galaxie doing that '46 Buick wagon. The Tucker would be cool, too. Charlie
  17. I like the gold/red. Nice job. Charlie Larkin
  18. It's a cute little bugger. Nicely done, too. Charlie Larkin
  19. Makes me want to buy one of those Dynacron bodies and do some modifications... Very cool. Charlie Larkin
  20. Sometimes, as someone who builds with an eye to replica stock (sometimes, more of a "day two" model- small additions/modifications,) that in and of itself, depending on the subject, may seem to be quite original- '32 Fords for example, in which 99% of them get built as hot rods or some type of custom. My little rep-stock Model B, seen here, sticks out like a sore thumb in that sea of "sameness!" So, perhaps not "original" in the strictest sense of the word, perhaps doing something that's a change from the norm is, in and of itself, being original. Even doing simple things like a slightly different color scheme, like my WIP '62 Buick, in Desert Sand (Chevy Adobe Beige) with a red interior, is original in that it's different. Again, not 100% totally, absolutely original, but just different. Perhaps, even if the same, "different" is original? What is most important, though, is you express yourself, and do so happily. Charlie Larkin
  21. I have no interest in this version myself, but I love the box-art. I like that Moebius is making an effort to make attractive, creative packaging art. It sets a good example for the rest of the industry. Charlie Larkin
  22. Never heard of these before. Great idea- I might try doing something similar to Pat's boxes. I like this, especially as I still do quite a bit of enamel work. Charlie Larkin
  23. As my great aunt used to say, "use it in good health." With the mileage, your financial health might improve a little. There is a possibility I might end up buying a new car before year's end, too, or at least newer. Charlie Larkin
  24. Thanks, Ian. I have a couple of ideas in mind that you might like. If this all comes to fruition, you'll see exactly what I'm doing and talking about. We'll just say that if AMT's molds for a lot of stuff (not just the "Tin Injuns") turn out to be lost or irreparable, that I have a few things in mind to step in and fill some voids... Charlie Larkin
  25. I like that computer desk for a workbench, Steve. Nice job on the dio, too. Charlie Larkin
