Hmmm, Chrysler 200
charlie8575 replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It all has to do with space efficiency. The shape of the car and how much junk you build into it, as well as the shape of said junk. That contributes to how much usable space is in the car. If a car is shaped well and doesn't have humongous and/or oddly-shaped consoles, badly-designed seats and all the other drawbacks a disturbingly large number of modern cars seem to have, the less space they have inside them that's usable. Barry, I taught for eight years. I think this is a great idea and I hope it goes well for you. Be sure to post pictures and show us what these youngsters come up with. Charlie Larkin -
Very nice work. What exactly did you have to change to the windows? I look forward to seeing the other four of your Mustangs. Charlie Larkin

Interests outside of model cars?
charlie8575 replied to Hattley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Everyone else is sharing some pictures, so here's a few of mine. This is the Grist Mill at Wayside Village in Sudbury, Ma. This was built in the early 1920s by Henry Ford, who owned the historic Wayside Inn and its surrounding area in Marlborough and Sudbury. In addition to being used as a command post during the Revolution, Longfellow's Tales From the Wayside Inn was inspired by it. Here's the mill. It's a real, functioning gristmill that makes very high-quality cornmeal and wheat flour. These were taken with a Pentax SF10 with a 28-80 lens. Charlie Larkin -

Folks- take a look at DecoRides. What a neat assortment of stuff! I could seriously see myself buying lots of those products if I had the funds and room to build what I wanted... Charlie Larkin -
I was thinking that the rootbeer would look nice two-toned with that orange on a custom or some kind of rod, perhaps a coach-built Classic of some kind. Clay- nice work on that. Charlie Larkin

Nice look to it, Donald. With those last few finishing touches, it'll look really good. Charlie Larkin

Mike's Scale Speed Shop That looks fantastic. I'd seriously consider buying one like that in 1:1. Charlie Larkin

Very nicely done. I must also join the questions- how did you build that kit if it is indeed the Pyro/Lindberg and get it to come out so well? Charlie Larkin
-
Cool. I might go grab one of those myself. Charlie Larkin

A rare dual six-digit green plate, I see.... That looks great overall, Mike. Did you find that the Tamiya maroon is slightly transparent so you could do that color-layering like that? It really does have the look of the late 1960s Ford burgundy. Charlie Larkin

Honored that you accepted my suggestion. Thanks, Mike. Charlie Larkin

That looks really nice, Pete. That one should be a nice dark maroon or dark green with tan interior. The shape and concept just call for it. Charlie Larkin -
Nice work, Junior. What did you use for the snow? Charlie Larkin

I like the sound of your build. Please be sure to share it. I'm especially interested in seeing how you handle the scripts and modifying the hood. This is an AMT kit that was first issued in the early 1990s, and it's very nice. I'm not sure when it was last re-issued, but it's not too tough to find at shows, eBay, etc. Charlie Larkin

I must be one of the few that find the Sebring attractive. I actually rather like the roof. I was reading somewhere that the 200 is one of the cars based on the Fiat chassis? Is that true or are they just doing this as a stop-gap until that car is ready? Michelle, were those pictures the show car or is that a production model? Actually, that leads to my next question- when is this thing going to be up for sale? Charlie Larkin -

Can I get an order of steamed rice with that, too, please? In all seriousness, what is that? Outside of model-building and model railroading, I enjoy real cars and trains, reading, cooking, listening to music (I can't play anything, though, and you don't want me to sing,) photography, draftsman work and drawing, architecture, woodworking, history and photography. I also like to travel a little when I can. I'm also very active in the Masons and do a bit with De Molay and Rainbow, two organizations for teenagers and young adults that Masonry sponsors. I'd like to learn how to paint sometime, too, I dated a girl that was an art major in college and I loved watching her paint, it was amazing. Right now, though, a lot of my time is spent as a full-time student at Massachusetts Bay Community College in Wellesley, Ma., as I retrain to become a paralegal after eight years of attempting to make a meaningful career of teaching. Wow, Kurt. The things you guys came up with with these bodies is cool. Very nice work. Charlie Larkin

My Version of My Dual Cowl Art Deco Roadster

I want that in 1:1! The only difference I'd have is wide whites and some kind of 1930s-style steel wheel/trim ring/dog-dish in a contrasting color. Peter, this is stunning, and very well done. Great work. Mike- want to carpool to New Jersey? Charlie Larkin -
Nice work, Brian. I'd like to see someone do a Stepside for that body, personally. Charlie Larkin

Great job, Mike. As always a beautiful build. Jeff- if that STS was yours, I remember seeing it as well. Looked great. Hopefully next year I'll have something ready for the show for a change. Charlie Larkin
