  1. Very cool, Jeff. I'll look forward to seeing one at Wayne. Charlie Larkin
  2. While out today, I saw a Hyundai with a big pink "nose" in the center of the grille and two pieces of white plastic suggesting ears going by. I wish I had a camera with me when I saw it. It was ridiculous, but still worth a chuckle. Charlie Larkin
  3. Gray with a red interior was always a favorite combination of mine. Yours is coming out quite nicely. Charlie Larkin
  4. I decided to take advantage of the incredibly nice weather and painted the GTO. I used Dupli-Color DSGM302 Light Blue Metallic, which is a very close (to my eye) for the Code D Fontaine Blue. This is the first metallic paint job I've done in ages. I'm quite pleased with its appearance. The tips and tricks I've read here and on one of the other boards I use (The Modeler's Haven)as well as the MassCar guys gave me renewed confidence and I was able to attack this with success. I know the jury is split on buffing out paint jobs, but I'm going to see what it looks like after it dries. Detail painting and foiling comes later this week. If all goes well, I'll have this car going to NNL. Charlie Larkin
  5. Nice start. I'll watch this with interest. Charlie Larkin
  6. If all goes according to plan, I'll be going to Wayne in a couple of weeks. My itinerary is to stay over with a friend who lives near New Paltz, N.Y. Friday night, and then head down as it's only about an hour and a half south from where she is. I'll be heading straight down the Thruway. Are there any tolls I need to be aware of? As I'm traveling on a very tight budget, I just need to make sure I plan ahead. My return trip will probably be either 287->684->84->all my back roads home, or 87->84->return home. I know I'll have the $3.00 toll at the Tappen Zee, but are there any others I need to know of between Wayne and there? Charlie Larkin
  7. I voted 1/24. That said, I'm building up a nice collection of 1/32 brass-era cars from things like Hudson Miniatures, Regal, Pyro, Life-Like and the Highway Pioneers. Eventually, I plan to make a nice museum-like diorama of them. Charlie Larkin
  8. Interesting story about this concept, Jason. Now that you've moved a good bit east, will we see you at NNL East this year? I'm going to try and go. I'm staying overnight with a friend of mine who lives near New Paltz, N.Y., putting me about an hour and a half north of Wayne, so all going to plan, I'll be there. Charlie Larkin
  9. Nice work, Chuck. What did you end up using for rolling stock and a steering wheel? I imagine any '50s truck wheel would be okay, but I like the rims and tires; I have a few other things I might have use for those. Charlie Larkin
  10. Very nice work, Chris. I know R&R kits can be a bit tough, but a lot of them will build nicely with some massaging. Jason- keep all of us posted if he decides to sell any of those cars. I think it's safe to say that amongst us or contacts in the 1:1 world, that many of them would find good homes, and I second the request for some pictures. Charlie Larkin
  11. I keep an eye on those once in awhile (I like the Intrigue, I think it's one of the nicer looking cars of the 1990s,) and that seems a bit optimistic, but not too unreasonable. Charlie Larkin
  12. I'd buy one simply for "amusement" if nothing else. Appropriate turn-of-phrase considering they appear to be bumper and merry-go-round cars. Cool. Charlie Larkin
  13. Question, Art. You stated something about artificial leathers? Are these an early vinyl of some type, or another material? To confirm, I remember my grandmother (who would be 104 now if she were still with us,) telling me stories about Pa's (my great-grandfather) first of about six or seven Model Ts, before he moved up to a Studebaker. Gram used to tell me about the first couple he had (he traded every year) that were brass-trimmed, and the entire day it would take to not only wash, but polish the car. I remember her telling me that my Uncle Howard and Uncle Roy usually got the brass-polishing duties and she had to buff it. It was indeed a production, even on a small car like a T. Charlie Larkin
  14. Check eBay. Nat Geos. are plentiful and not real expensive. Charlie Larkin
  15. Nice builds. Too bad they never did that convertible in 1:1, it looks really nice. Charlie Larkin
  16. Looks nice, Phil. What did you use for the wheels? I really think I might do that stock Regal. Charlie Larkin
  17. That did come out very nicely. I like the color combination. Charlie Larkin
  18. I still like the idea of using one as a dinghy behind a '59 Cadillac. Or fodder for a monster truck with the latte-sipping superiority-complexed, and brain-deficient individual owning it tied in unable to escape.... Perhaps a wall demonstrating brake and electronics failures? Charlie Larkin
  19. It looks nice with the stripe and spoiler delete. I'm thinking of sourcing a Jo-Han '71 4-4-2 hood and grille from the Modelhaus and building a non-W-30 car. The black/saddle combination is nice, too. Charlie Larkin
  20. Very nice weathering work; what did you use for the tie-down straps? Charlie Larkin
  21. I have a 1961 Buick Special wagon that some kid (very solidly) glued a bunch of the glue-on ticky-tack to. The only way I can think of to remove it is verycareful application of a chisel-point X-Acto blade. I've yet to try the freezer trick. I've been told that works best by dampening the parts in question and putting it in a Zip-Lock bag, allowing the water to freeze and expand, which pushes the parts apart. Anyone else? Charlie Larkin
  22. You don't have problems with Humbrol reacting with the vinyl? Charlie Larkin
  23. Is it just me or there is an inverse relationship between taste and wealth, especially in overpaid celebrities? Charlie Larkin
  24. I've found I prefer Plasti-Kote over Dupli-Color myself, largely because the nozzles are less troublesome. Charlie Larkin
  25. Well, at least it took me to my page! That's very, very odd. I'm glad you enjoyed them, Mike. I'll edit the link to make sure it works. Charlie Larkin
