Ahh now I get it, I got curious as it wasn't pictured at the later step in the earlier post. -
2019 Round2 - more trucks expected for release
Force replied to steve1970's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Well the kits are straight reissues with different or new decals so they are like all of the earlier issues, the Double Header kit has allways had chrome plated rims and the same goes for most of the AMT trucks...not likely CF equippment as most of them were plain and simple, but that how it is. The chrome plating is not hard to get rid of if you don't want it, and 2 hole budd wheels are easy to find on the aftermarket. -

Yes, the BJ truck and the Papa Truck/Hideout Truck are from the same tooling and seats with this diamond pattern and KW "bug" are in them. The Revell AG K100 seats are different with no diamond pattern and the Revell AG W900/T900 has the same diamond pattern as the AMT ones but no KW "bug", same goes for the Revell snap W900. I don't know if the Auslowe seats are a direct copy of the AMT seats but they look a lot like them, the seat base looks to be from the Revell AG kits as the AMT kits has a different base. -

These seats are wrong for the Papa Truck as it's a Bicentennial Edition wich had fabric upholstery on the main part of the seat, but right for the Hideout Truck, the Movin On truck and of course for the BJ truck. -

Ehh...where is the crossover pipe from the other side exhaus manifold? -
I don't know wich category I'm in...if the brand is right, at the right place or if the size marking is right on a tire I don't care that much as you have to be very close to see it, but I like the tread pattern to have the right look, I also like wheels to have the right look, I also like to have a few options for engines, transmissions and rear suspensions other than to have to rob other kits for what I want for a build, and some kit parts needs to be corrected to get the right look and some parts I would like to use on some builds are not available at all or very hard to get. Of course it takes time and money to do these parts, I know that, and it's difficult to know what will sell or not and it will most likely take some time before brake even or making a profit. I looked at what kits was available on the market when it comes to US trucks as it's the main interest for me these days, most of whats available are from the 70's and 80's era wich I like, not many kits are newer than that, and that's why I started to think about this as I think the aftermarket parts for this era trucks are so few, I have not done a scientific study of this so I don't have any numbers to show, and it can be my imagination but I get that feeling when I look at what's available at the aftermarket suppliers on the web right now.

You have a point there, most of the 1:24th scale (mainly from Italeri) is of newer trucks and there is a market for parts for them as most of them are not that accurate everywhere anyway and has to be corrected so they will look like the subject they are supposed to be, and there are lots of options so you can build something other than whats offered from Italeri originally...but that's mostly European stuff, the US trucks they have are 80's and 90's era, very generic, and the newest they have is the Volvo VN780 wich doesn't even have an engine. But Round2 is reissuing truck kit after truck kit, at least a couple of kits per year, and they are 70's era so there must be a market there too as I can't believe everyone builds them out of box without modifications (how fun is that), and one think that the few aftermarket guys we have for truck parts would do more stuff for them. For example, if I want to do my model with a different suspension than the kit has I have to rob it from another kit, same with the engine and transmission...there are a few resin options but not that much.

Auslowe has them, with the KW "bug" emblem, Item Code: Seat1, the photo is from Auslowes Facebook page as there are none of this seat on the shop page. They also have these seats without the "bug" emblem for one that don't need it. No I have not seen that, I don't have any 1:32 trucks as I only work in 1:24-1:25. Well you can get your measurements from the 1:32 dash and scale them up when you do the new dash for this build. -
Ebay prices dropping!!!!
Force replied to Sledsel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well the pricing on the other kits this seller has is on the high side too...so I don't know. A newly reissued AMT 65 Ford Galaxie for $79.19 and a Tamiya 1:20 McLaren F1 car for $59.99...sounds a bit on the steep side to me. An item is not worth more than a buyer is prepaired to pay for it and just because the item is rare doesn't automatically mean it's worth much...the seller can ask for what he/she wants but it's the market who decides the price. I can't see this seller getting any bids until he/she comes down to more reasonable prices. -

I'm intrigued that no after market guy has done a correct Aerodyne dash yet, the AMT Kenworth K100 Aerodyne kit came 1979 and the Revell Germany kit 1982-ish, so they have been around 37-40 years...and both the AMT and Revell kits have the wrong dash and all issues have allways had the wrong dash. Of course the Revell Germany kit shared everything with the K100 flat top and the roof is the only thing different, but I think the Aerodyne kit came first, so it should have had the right dash as the Aerodyne got this dash when it first came out in 1976 with the Bicentennial Edition. -
Yes I do listen... but my original post in this topic was "I wish they still could do the 68 as it's the only year it's classified with the 426 Hemi for Super Stock". That post was quoted and a replied to by 1972coronet and I answered, magicmustang quoted part of my answer to 1972coronet and replied with the picture and I answered back, I must have the right to answer these replies don't I. If anyone mean to talk about something other than what what my posts was about, please don't quote my posts then...I take a quote of my posts as a reply to my posts and not to the topic in general. No need to scan anything from the Sox & Martin book, I allready have it, Sox & Martin raced a lot of cars with Hemis and other engines in several classes and sanctioning bodys, they raced one of their 69 Barracudas in Pro Stock, that I do know. Lets move on. Yes some of the MPC and AMT issues has the Hemi but not all.
-
I say it again, the only year a 426 Hemi is classified and legal in the A-body Barracuda for the Super Stock class is 1968, the factory did not build any 67's or 69's with Hemis and they can't be classified in the class as the engine in the car must be available from the factory the specific year the body is made or supposed to be for it to be legal. Chrysler hired Hurst to build the B029 Hemi Barracudas together with the L023 68 Hemi Darts intended for drag racing, all started with Hamtramck, Michigan factory built 1968 bodys and was modified by Hurst, this according to the Maximum Performance book. Any other year A-body Barracudas with 426 Hemis were either built by the racers themselves or are maybe 68's with 69 sheetmetal, front and tail lights so they were supposed to be 69's...they are not legal for Super Stock competition but can of course run in other classes. Today there are only 1968 Barracudas and Darts in the SS/AH class, all of them were not original Hemi cars from the beginning and that's not required, but they are built like them and as the 426 Hemi was available that year in those bodys they are correct for the class, so you can take a 6 cylinder or small block 1968 Barracuda Fastback or Dart, put a 426 Hemi in it and it's legal in Super Stock if it meets everything else required for the class.

You do nice work, I will follow your progress. -
I have bougt stuff from them and I'm aware of what they have, they do have some parts for older trucks like some engines, suspensions and other stuff. I think I have a pretty good view of what's available, at least what I can find on the web, I don't know much of what aftermarket guys have that don't are on the web tho'. Jamie at Moluminum has a set of Truck Mate wheels for the Tyrone Malone transporters and they have diamond shaped hand holes, they have a center cap but that can be drilled out if you don't want it. The only one I know of who has done a Page and Page suspension is Strato Models, I have been in touch with them regarding this as I need one for a planned Duel truck project and they said they had sets for a couple of their resin kits but nothing right now and not available separate, the resin kits they do are very small series and sells out fast. Yes there are more out there now than ever before but as I said the US truck kits from AMT are late 60's and 70's with exception of the KW T600 wich is newer, and the Revell US truck kits are from the 80's, so one would think there would be more for them. A.I.T.M. has lots of older stuff and that's great, cabs, sleepers and conversion kits, some wheels, tanks and tool boxes but not much else like engines, transmissions and suspensions.
-
I was talking about Super Stock and the Hemi Barracuda and Dart was classed B at first, later changed to A and now AH, all have 1968 sheet metal. So if I want to build one of those it has to be a 68 as there are no 69's with Hemi in Super Stock.
-
I have been thinking about this a lot lately. Most of the truck kits we have available to us now are old late 60's to 80's models, at least the US truck kits from AMT and Revell are, so I wonder why there isn't more aftermarket stuff from that era as much of the aftermarket stuff is for 80's and newer trucks. There are some but not enough. Many trucks from the 70's era used 22 inch lock ring Alcoa style wheels before the one piece 22½ and 24½ inch wheels came, and the only 22 inch wheels of this type I know of from kits is the AMT ones used in the Freightliner, White and Autocar kits...and they don't really have the right look, not the 10 hole nor the 5 hole, and most of the wheels from the other AMT kits are 20 inch and they doesn't look right either. Another wheel option that's not that plentiful of is 5 hand hole lock ring steel wheels, 2 and 5 hole steel wheels for tubeless tires are plentiful but not the older lock ring style. Tires are another thing, there are not many who does tires with correct treads from that era, KJ from Double Take Replicas is one but he doesn't have much available right now. For suspensions I would like to see some more options to choose from too, I'm so tired of the Hendrickson Walking Beam in many kits so the old 4 bag air ride for Kenworths wich was replaced with the 8 bag AG100 is one option I would like to see, maybe Monkey Motion, Page & Page 60/40, Rayco 4-spring, Rockwell 6-Rod could be other options...some are not available at all, a few are in resin and some you have to rob from other kits. More engines and transmission options would also be cool to have, some are available from different resin casters tho'. I don't have the skill to draw something up in CAD and have it 3D printed, otherwise I would have as I see a void in the aftermarket for these things, and I hate to have to rob other kits for things I like to use for a certain build, it would be nicer if I can buy the parts separately.

Great idea...and your models suites nicely in them.

I didn't know that...I just checked and you are right to some point...the website and forum are still there but all the pictures on the site are gone. That's a 362, I don't know of any model of that, likewise for the 352H and 352E in Jim's post. -
I wish they still could do the 68 as it's the only year it's classified with the 426 Hemi for Super Stock, none of the 67 or 69's are so if you want to do a correct Super Stock Hemi Barracuda it has to be a 68. It's the same with the Dart but Revell has that covered for us...it's maybe about time someone did a new 68 Barracuda.

You mean the old ERTL version right? I bought one back in the day when the kit first came out and it's very bad and not worth the money they ask for them today, you will get a AITM resin kit wich is much closer to what the movie truck looks like for about the same money. The ERTL kit is their regular DM 600 with some added parts to make it look more like the Rubber Duck truck...but they failed miserably as the built model looks nothing like the movie truck at all. The only usable parts from that kit if you want to do a model of the Rubber Duck truck from the movie is the bull bar, the grille, the air foil for the roof, the hood ornament and some of the decals...you can't even use the sleeper they included, it's too short and the wrong style. The rest of the kit is more suited to do something else from. I will follow this. -
