  1. Doesn't sound remotely close to anything I've heard.....I have my doubts.
  2. One caveat though, Casey. Ninety percent of the kits I build for them are sourced from test shots or previous issues, not the actual production-ready Round2 releases. The parts pic above is the actual Round2 box art kit before it was assembled; it was built from an earlier AMT/Ertl VP Challenger. They weren't planning on making any changes re parts content at that time, but I suggested they get rid of the goofy-looking hemi valve covers I mentioned (they aren't shown in the pic). I haven't seen a production kit yet.
  3. I think we're getting our boats mixed up here. The original MPC '69 and '70 annual Bonneville hardtops (not the convertibles) included a canoe that mounted to a roof rack. The boat included with the Model King reissue was never in an MPC box. It was originally the AMT Rayson Craft (c1963), later released (slightly modified) as the Hull Raiser (c1967). I can only recall two AMT kits that included the boat with a tow vehicle....the Quarter Masters (c1968) with the very-inaccurate '68 Firebird and the Aquarod (c1976) with the '70's Chevy van.
  4. Here ya go. NOTE...the body still has the separate vinyl-textured roof, the body in the pic below has had the top sanded/molded in. Ertl also added a pair of ridiculous-looking faux-hemi valve covers to the VP kit with molded-in spark plug boots...I hope Round2 has blocked them off. Thankfully the correct 440 covers are still included.
  5. This kit surprised me. A few months ago the guys at Round2 asked me if I could build a Lindberg '34 Ford pickup for them. Thinking it was the old ex-AMT kit we all know and love, I thought "Cool...can't wait, how do you want it done?". Well....then I found out it was...THIS kit! I got the kit, looked at their mockup pics, gritted my teeth and started building. When it was all done, I thought "Hey, that was kinda fun". I'll be buying another eventually....don't know what I'll do with it, but like a lot of you I would never have considered buying this one before.
  6. Don't know if these pics help; it was built a couple of years ago (for someone else-I no longer have it). I don't recall if I had any issues with the headers, but it looks like they had to be mounted as close to the block as possible.
  7. This one won't have the metal coils, unfortunately. The tool was modified at some point to eliminate them.
  8. Agreed...presentation has a lot to do with it, and John would do it right....
  9. Yup...they all had vinyl tops as I remember them. I added the moldings to mine as well. The roof on mine was crushed in exactly the same way as Ron's ...didn't stop the original builder from slapping it together (with the window glass in backwards) and slapping a coat of paint on it though. At least when they're this ugly they're really cheap.
  10. I believe that would be the builder. The built-up at Toledo was done before Round2's purchase of the Lindberg tooling
  11. Yes, you're thinking of something else. This is NOT the old AMT Trophy Series kit that Lindberg found and reboxed in the '90's
  12. In case anyone is wondering...
  13. Yes, I discussed it with them initially when I worked on the box-art kit for the previous release (orange car on the box). I recall the somewhat tedious job of trying to correct the hood opening issue with black paint. I also reminded them when the Dirty Donny issue was announced. The door markings were already added to the decal sheet in that previous release, although they weren't used on the box-art kit; it was built from an original Ertl issue with (I think) black BMF used for the door depressions
  14. The hump in the side stripes and the incorrect opening in the hood decal were discussed previously, and I was informed today that the decals have been corrected. The colors weren't mentioned.
  15. The R/T graphics have been corrected for the Dirty Donny issue.
  16. As flawed as they are, I'm a fan of the infamous "for 68" kits....I have the Firebird and Camaro from my childhood, and picked up an Impala a couple of years ago. That Impala looks pretty strange as-is, so I dug out the custom vinyl-look rear window/trunk overlay from a '66 Riviera.....pretty close fit!
  17. Even if Round2 had the tooling intact for the Firebird, seeing it again would be a real long shot. Yes, many of "us" would like to own one, but "we" (who know what to expect and want one for nostalgia reasons) aren't a big enough group to justify the expense. If you want to lobby for something, consider the Hull Raiser with a different vehicle (maybe a 59 or 68 ElCamino?) in the spirit of the original
  18. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Round2 resurrecting an old AMT double kit (or creating a new one in the spirit of the old drag team kits), as I know they have tossed some ideas around for quite awhile....but the Quarter Masters is highly unlikely. The Firebird in that box was a re-pop of the AMT Firebird issued in '68; a woefully-inaccurate custom-only kit based on their '67 Camaro, not related at all to the promo-based MPC kit that was updated to the '69 in Glenn's post above. Sure, the original is rare, they sell for big bucks, and some of us would like to see it again (I know I would buy one)....but any money they would have to spend to bring it back would have to be weighed against the prospective sales (at a higher-than-normal price) and the complaints they would get from the folks who open the box not knowing what to expect in terms of accuracy.
  19. I believe all of those AMT Tobias-chassis kits have the same wheelbase. I measured a '36 Plymouth...119mm
  20. Jon....check your '66 GT350 kits to see if they have louvers in the box. I only have one '66 (the original molded-in-black GT350H) and like Tom's, it came with a pair of louvers from the stock '65 fastback kit as a bonus.
  21. I believe if you look at the promo/friction versions (same tooling) you will find pins that fit into those tabs in an attempt to minimize warpage. The '61 AMT promos/frictions (with a few exceptions) still used acetate plastic
  22. If it is, then my Buick has the wrong tub in it.
  23. 1-PMC Chev pickup promo (59-ish) 2-MPC Pinto wagon tailights 3-AMT 56 Ford 4-AMT 67(?) Corvette conv 6 and 11-Monogram '55 Chev (original) 9-AMT 65 GTO (maybe 8 too) 10-AMT 57 T-Bird (original) of-the-top-of-my-head guesses.
  24. I don't know why I was just thinking '65 and '66 ....I just looked at my Modelhaus '67 Impala....there it is
