And all Hail broke loose
Abell82 replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bob Black, those pics, look just like what we got hit with!! I was literally on my way to a doctor's appointment when it hit. I realized it was not an ordinary storm, when the wind changed directions. I made it to the doctor's, and got inside before the strong stuff hit. I was locked safely in the doctors office when the roof started coming off and began hitting my car. I wish I could find the pics of the gas station across from the college. They (Hucks) lost the awning? over the fuel pumps as well as a few of the fuel pumps. It literally shattered when it hit the ground, and blew pieces across the highway. -
And all Hail broke loose
Abell82 replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not to steal your thunder, but we got hit with that last week. If you want to see some real storm damage, look up pics of Carbondale, Illinois May, 09. We got hit with golf ball size hail, followed the next day with hurricane winds. The trees that did not break in half, the wind just ripped from the ground by it's roots. There was no electricity, for approximately a 60 mile radius. It was something else. I am pretty sure my car was totaled from the hail, if not, then the pieces of roofing that flew through the air and hit it, did it in. Here is a pic from one street. This is just one street, but looked like this EVERYWHERE!! -
model figure questions
Abell82 replied to evilone's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They have recently started re-releasing the 3 in GI JOES. I bet you could find one of those, and paint it to look like what you are looking for. -
Why do you guys model cars?
Abell82 replied to ericmaxman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I personally model cars, because my wife told me if I didn't find something to do, other then bugging her, that she would KILL ME!! ...(whispers tearfully) And I believed her! -
I have to quit models for awhile....
Abell82 replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

My simpathies to you and your wife. Take care of her, we'll be here.

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
Abell82 replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I STRONGLY recommend against brake fluid. In my experience it can make styrene brittle. If you have patience, try Dawn Power Disolver. Use it the same as Castrol Super Clean. It only comes in small bottles. So you'll need like 3 or 4 bottles, depending on the size of the tub you use. It is a bit slow to work. But the results are far superior to anything else I have ever used. It will begin to bubble most paints after 24 hours. You can either then brush it off or just let it soak. After roughly 96 hours most paint will be completely gone and you will have nearly virgin plastic. Don't use Simple Green. It contains silicone. If you don't get it all washed off, it will ruin your next paint job. -
Not a replica, but a tribute. I like the idea. I can not understand why there are not more cars like this.

A Mustang to Dye For
Abell82 replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You really don't need hot water, it just speeds up the process. You can use cold water, BUT if you leave it in too long, it will get VERY DARK depending on the amount of dye, and the amount of water. I have also seen easter egg coloring, and food coloring used. Basically it's just staining the paint, or plastic with dye. -
It's going to be a while
Abell82 replied to Scott H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My Condolences to you ,Scott. It's never easy to loose a loved one. Know that we are here for you should you need us. Take care of yourself and family, come back when you are ready, or need Us. We'll be here for you. -
Tumbler, I think I like your version better then the 1:1. Your version looks better planned, and finished. Again, well done!!

"The Michelangelo Of Plastic" Not at ALL proud of yourself are you? If you can't toot your own horn, though... Your Cougar looks great though, seriously!! I have one of similar design in my stalled projects pile. (a Hardtop) So uhm...2 questions: Any pics of the 1:1? What are your plans for the T-Bird?

Caswell Plastic Plating System
Abell82 replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's Electro-plating, I believe rather then chemical dipping. -
So ah... when is some one going to point out that the car in the pic is 69?
-
I had one broken in a 79? Camaro, from Monogram. I glued it back together using Testors red tube glue. Then I sanded the "crack" smooth, using multiple grades of sand paper. Then I coated it with Future. It looked 100% like any teens car from the 80's, with the riser blocks and cracked windshield. It's long gone now though.

So you think you have modelling skills?
Abell82 replied to Lyle Willits's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not that it's not a feat, but I am pretty sure, that a man named Charlie Ryder did one in 1/24th. NOW that would be impressive, to see. -
The second pic was of the axle assembled, but now?

If you shop at Michael's Arts and Crafts
Abell82 replied to crispy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The local Micheal's closed a year ago the nearest one is 45 minutes away. Yes, I did noticed an attitude from the clerks when I shopped there, but only when I went in alone. If my wife was with me, it was all good. I guess men are not supposed to shop at craft stores. -
Finished! 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 Eleanor
Abell82 replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in Model Cars
The one thing I never understood about Elanor was the hood. You really improved on a theme, here. I truly think that after making this one, the "real" thing may be a let down to you. ...Still they would look pretty good side by side on a shelf together... Any way GREAT WORK!! -
The problem is that anything wrong with the original will be wrong with all the copies. They make this grille in 1/24th scale.

Welcome !!

Do what you have to do. It's looking great, why rush it? Great job, so far!!
