I have to say Pat, the realism is sublime. I like your building style very much. The subject matter don't hurt none neither..... Bob F

After reading it all there is overwhelming evidence that you are not only NOT ALONE in this, but that we are all behind you in whatever you decide for your builds. Box stock Dave Deal clunker? Awesome! Super detailed hemi VW? Go For It..... Glue Bomb, not painted, vintage AMT? Well, let's not get crazy now........... This community ROCKS as you can see. When folks write posts like yours, the supporting cast comes out of the woodwork to gently lift you up. It's like Family really......... Bob F

Absolutely stunning execution there...... What kit is this?? I must have one... I love me some BowTies! Bob F

Blame?? Nothing of the sort... I sort of feel the same way kinda.... That is shine from the gloss black. It's actually already in the purple pond so it may recieve PROPER paint. I didn't prime and it showed.... So.... to recap. I don't blame you [though it is tempting LOL], but truth be told it is my way of doing things. Thanks for the comment on the motor, I am quite proud of the restraint I showed. Gooder things on the way. Bob F

How timely Ron. I have update pix here. Threw the chassis in to see how the engine bay is fitting. This kit is a real winner in my book. Also getting to like the blackout thing on the chrome pieces. I'm not going to use BMF black chrome, I'm going to mask and paint the trim. Using Tamiya tape as per an article I have here somewhere........ It's getting there.

Tonight I was staring at the grill when Zuke's comments came to mind about his not liking the grill. I kind of went into a little trance trying to picture options in my head and decided to do something different. I have dechromed the grill, rear valance and bumper as well as the mirrors. I'm going black on them. I have the grill already painted and it is striking indeed. I think it will look great with the black C stripe and black chrome BMF. The black interior will tie it all together quite nicely and it should look very custom indeed. Perhaps a departure from what others here have been expecting to see, but I'm not one to do what others think usually. Pix tomorrow of course. Bob F

I HAVE to echo Ken here. That thing is off the chizzain!!! So sleek and ominous looking. Off to see the rest. Bob F I gotta get to one of these meetings. I met a guy at Overlea hobbies here in Baltimore [Name escapes me], but he also invited me to a meeting. I was showing off my garlits build and my super Bee to the owner and of course we started talking. Super nice guy... I'll get to one eventually. C-Ya then Lyle

Those paint jobs are embarassingly good. I need to pick up my game now!! Bob F

A few things have been going on at the workbench and wanted to share. Got the wheels looking pretty good as well as the motor. Got it wired up and ready to be finished tomorrow. I'm going to polish the paint this weekend and picked up Tamiya's polishing system. Looks pretty good so the results should be decent. Got the rear part of the exhaust done and it came out great with Testors buffing metalizer. Love that stuff! I stuck a dipstick on the motor as well as a coil. Vacuum line looks positively HUGE in the pic, but it scales out OK when it's in person. Weird.. I'm not going to do any fuel lines or any of that. I calmed down several times and told myself to just let it go. I'm making progress Dr., just like you said... hahaha.. hehehe..... Enjoy. Bob F

I have this kit on my shelf so I broke it out and compared to pix I have in the many Muscle Car monthly mags I have. It is fairly wrong, yet like the others have said you nailed it. I think it's the hood being blacked out that helps quite a bit. Also the strobe is taking away from the line to draw you to it. As a result the lines are less harsh and appear downright correct. The color is superb and I have never seen it on that body before. That helps as well. Since we are used to the bright knockout colors many usually paint these kits in. I also say WELL DONE..... Bob F

That guy has crazy skills...... Just when you think it looks good, he adds more detail till it's perfect. What amazes me is that when finished, he will hit a power button and they will roll away. INCREDIBLE! HUMBLING.... Bob F

I had one of those BOOM! days today. Went to the LHS and picked up polishing supplies. When I got home my eBay stuff had arrived. How cool is this? Sealed Sammy Swindell, Casey Luna and Kinser sprint cars from the mid 80's 10.99 ea. Carpenter 55 Pro Mod sealed, 11.99 and Rickie Smith's pro stock Thunderbird open but complete 9.99. All from the same seller so I weasled on shipping, something like 12.00 bucks I think. Bob F

Stunning rebuild!! Captures the whole 70's thing to a T. Colors, execution, design. I'll wager it's a handful at the track! Bob F I've seen many old builds of pricey kits on eBay and have balked. While there is more work to be done in ressurecting an old kit, the results speak for themselves. Perhaps I'll save one yet......

I believe my Mums did that back in the early 70's It was called decoupage I think. it seems like a related technique Nice looking Bob F

Empowerment and Involvement

You are of course right Dave. Perhaps "solitary" is more appropriate? Either way, there is great community here and you are right about clubs and such. I am here in Maryland Iand I have yet to attend a MAMA meeting. This is something I will remedy soon though. Bob -
Empowerment and Involvement

I see that opinions vary, as they should. My post was meant to perhaps bring one or two out from behind their screens to participate is all. I allot time for building, playing guitar, and the many things I do as recreation. I play less Battlefield II than I used to as a direct result of finding this forum and starting to build again due to the excitment it rekindled in me. That I play my game less is a good thing for my building and being able to share what can be described as a fairly lonely hobby with like minded individuals is a blessing to my mind. I'm glad there is a difference of opinion and taste in this world, or we might all still be driving black Fords. Perish the thought. Bob Frias -
Roth kits are always a PITA. But would we change that? No way! Good looking so far... Bob F

Empowerment and Involvement

Somewhat true? Long in the tooth? Hmmmmm You are certainly entitled but I would add that advice of any nature [of which you need none], is by definition, lengthy. All the same, the fact that some rang true tickles me. The truth is that it is sound, and my motivation is to get others to join in on what it is we are up to. Being as this is a solitary thing, communion is MUY IMPORTANTE' We are all in this together. I wish more to join......... Going to spray some primer.... Bob -
I am relatively new here. Being member 3,850 takes a bit of pressure off me. This post is a call to those who are on the fringe. Those who wish to post, yet feel their work somehow [perhaps in your own mind], falls short. This post is for YOU!. The guy reading this and perhaps awaiting a revelation of some sort. The type of guy who loves what it is we do, but seems unsure. ALL hobbies, be they crocheting, stamp collecting, used Band Aid collector, have their Superstars. It's indeeed easy to get caught up in hype and awe in anothers accomplishment. By contrast we limit our own deeds and makings. By virtue of this awe we marginalize our very selves in terms of skill, labor, and in general our love for a thing. In our case, model cars. This is a study in the human psyche. It is in fact, a call to arms for those who wish to be a part of this community, but fail to push the button at some crucial moment. This post is not for those well entrenched builders who have ego enough to stand perhaps even public ridicule [which I have not seen here], or outright disdain. It occurs to me that if you post your project one of two things may happen. 1: Total disregard for what you have posted or written. In this case I would caution you that there are many who hold their collective tongues instead of reaching for some far reaching compliment. If you know it's not up to snuff, they are certain. Does this mean you are not a legitimate modeler? On the contrary! As soon as you put Cyano to plastic, you are a modeler. I got paid for an early blues gig many years ago. I stepped in for an ill guitarist and got paid for it. Did that make me a proffesional guitarist? Technically, yes. A good one? Jury is still out, but deep inside, I know the answer to that. And that is what keeps us growing..... 2: The first time winner! Aaaahhh, to be a winner. The American Dream as it's held. But truth be told, if you garner praise off the bat you have been at this a while and are only now finding this venue. In which case, keep building, more is to come. Those of us who are seasoned [i'm being kind here, as I am older], can ALWAYS learn a thing or two from new modelrs. I have learned a great deal already by searching the archives and asking questions. I am new to many of the new products that we are now enjoying. I ask questions concerning the materials I am interseted in and have yet to get an "Are you daft?" type comment. There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers I have built cars for many years. BUT with many years in between with nothing whatsoever. During that time MANY have come onto the scene to be INCREDIBLE builders. David T, Jay Savarese are just 2 of those builders. I built models before they were born or were mere hatchlings [no offense to your Mums guys]. These guys are a wealth of info. Look at what they are doing. Study how they got there. It's OK to ape them, but discover your own style. How many Dale Paeones were there before he showed up? NONE! Building ANYTHING requires only 2 things. A commitment. And the level you set in YOUR mind. I build Superdetailed cars. I build standard "Plugwire and paint" affairs. It's all up to you. What is a constant is this simple idea. Have fun. Keep it up to your own expectations. Never build for anyone else other than yourself. Did I mention have fun???? This brings to mind something from the music side of my life. Are you here to make musiscians happy, or are you here to make that booty move? Both builds have something to offer. Pick one and stick to it till the end. Your friend with with Squadron all over his hands and not a paper towel in sight. Robert J Frias AKA: Dragline

I have this kit and I have some candy green for it. But RED looks beautiful. 2 Chevy's in a row. You like Bowties I guess???? But then again, who doesn't?? Bob Frias

This is a very nice looking build. You do things that I like to do, like subtle wear and grease marks. All in all a VERY nice looking build of one of my favorite cars ever. I'll race you in my 1970 Go Mango Super Bee when we are both done....... Oh wait, not fair. It has a Hemi...lol Don't forget a dipstick! Bob Frias

I laid down 3 Med coats of Testors 1814 clear and the result is better than I could have hoped for. Thanks to Ron Hamilton for the inspiration and wisdom. My pics don't do it justice, and I am pleased with how my skills keep moving forward. I attribute this to ModelCarsMag Forums, and all you nice people.

Quick you say??? Hmmmmmmmmm.... Gorgeosity. Balanced and well executed. I have yet to see a B body in a color I don't like. Bob Frias
