  1. I've been on a roll building. My current "laid off" status has allowed me some 1 on 1 time with styrene and i have been busy. I normally build 2-3 cars a year, but right now I am on pace to build a dozen easy. I see steady work on the horizon so I am taking this time to build a few items that have languished on the shelf far too long. This here is the Mongoose Plymouth Duster AA/FC from the reissue Snake/Mongoose double kit of some years ago. I had built the Snake when I first got it all that time ago and it's currently in my fathers private collection, but this one was in the back of the closet in that BIG box. Since I had some Italin Red left over from a previous build I thought what the hey???? Nothing fancy here as far as detail goes, just a colorful build that might not be totally accurate but has "eyeball" appeal. Frame is Tamiya French blue and I swapped out the kits [wrong], non handed wrinkle wall Mickey Thompson slicks for a set of current AA/FC Goodyears. I had some So Real tire decals so I slapped them on there instead of painting the letters. Then I promptly handled them and pulled them partly off the wheels before I could dull coat them [Doh, Bob!!!]. Some plug wires for a little visual spark and that's about it. Clear coat is drying and with some careful painting should look great after a buff N polish with my Novis kit. Too bad about the Coca Cola decals being missing from this kit. Their omission leaves a bare patch on the rear quarters but maybe down the road I can pick them up and slap em on over the clear coat. All that's really left is the fuel and oil tanks which are currently drying after a dip in the dechroming tank and LOTS of sanding and filling. Up next... MPC reissue Blue Max Mustang AA/FC Bob F
  2. There are 3 great car chases, the rest are runners up. 1: The French Connection 2: Bullit 3: The Blues Brothers. IMHO Bob F
  3. Every bit fantastic, and every bit in place. I have absolutely NO conception of what it takes to make cars look like that. I know I have neither the conpunction, nor the talent. Good on ya mate. Bob F
  4. I would have to say for me it was Russ Shwenckler [spelling?], Juha Airo and SAE in the late 80's through 90's that got me fueled back then. Today, it's this site and all the great people who populate it. Bob "Suck Up" Frias
  5. Where is my Frampton Comes Alive 8-Track!!!????? Old'scool..... Cool paint.. Bob F
  6. Yes, they are sticking out a tad Harry. Going for cool, not correct.. LOL Bob
  7. Thanks to all you guys.. The running lights for the front are now with foil. I'll paint em later. As for the rear running lights?? Not much i can do since I lost the PE ones. They came out so nice to......Rats. I'll get the tires lettered and THEN it will be good. Baldwin Motion Camaro is on the workbench. I have one in Muscle Car review. They didn't all come with those gaff [to me] stripes so i'm going to replicate the one in the book. Besides, masking those stripes off would not be pleasant. Then there are the pinstripes that surround the white areas...Blechhhh... Back to the workbench. Bob
  8. That thing is very BadA$$ Peter.. The pix are strong as well as the execution. I'd buy this if it were in resin.... Too lazy to actually do what you did there.... Fully realised. Bob F
  9. I cannot find those BLOODY gel pens Dave..... I've been to Michaels, Jo Anns, Office Max et all... it's making me crazy. If you have a line on one please grab it for me. I'll be bringing it and some other WIP's to MaMa at the next meeting. Thanks Bob
  10. This is a Monogram kit from 1980. Should be out there on eBay. I have looked but they don't come up often. The Hemi Cuda and Boss Mustang of the same vintage are far more common. Thanks Bob F
  11. I still have to foil the front running lights but it's close enough. The MCG Detail set came with a set of rear running light covers and i sprayed them with the body.... and then promptly lost them [DOH!] since I sanded off the molded in ones there are now no rear running lights unless I find them... Oh well. This was a quick build [for me] and it was a little tricky. This is a good kit, but not a great one. Two finished models posted in one day for me... WooHoo.... Bob F
  12. GORGEOUS paint!! Looks like Merlot or deep Burgundy. Well done. Bob F
  13. Nice stable of open top racers there. This kit can NEVER be done to death. Very nice. Bob F
  14. Just finished this and it was FUN! Light weathering and some .50 cal bullet holes. Made the fender flags in MS Paint and printed em out. Can't wait to tackle the Tijuana Taxi next. Enjoy Bob F
  15. Looks outstanding Curt. I HAVE to build an F1 car someday. Bob F
  16. AMAZING paint......................... If you were to stop right now no one could blame you. Wheels and tires etc.... will just distract [me anyway]. I'm floored by this, and I am far and away no 50's guy. Finished, gosh....... Bob F
  17. Perfectly captured Gasser style. Very authentic.... In the right setting it could pass for real. Bob F
  18. I had no idea that kit was THAT nice! Of course, it's the execution. Well done. Bob F
  19. Now this brings me back! As a lad my auntie Claire would pick me up in one of these. I think it was a soft yellow color. I might have to get one. Very nice build indeed. Bob F
  20. Looking good Janne! Can't wait to see it done. You foiling the windows or painting them? I still cannot believe it's brush painted. it's smooth. Bob F
  21. It does look more sinister in grey. I did mine in modern desert tan with .50 cal holes and weathering. I'll be watching this to see your result. As soon as my ink comes in I'm finishing up mine. I remade the front flags using the old ImageStyler program and need to print them out. The decals for the flags just didn't seem to fit for me so I made new ones. Those are all that stand in the way of mine being done. I want to some some other new takes in this oldie but goodie. This should turn out great. Bob F
  22. I worked in a garage for 18 years. The last 4 rebuilding warrantee motors and some high perf work. The last 3 years were working at a tool warehouse selling to jobbers [snap-On trucks, Adv Auto, AutoZone et all...,.] but I've been laid off and enjoying some down time. Getting itchy to start working again. Soon..... Perhaps I might end up breaking out my 2 fully stocked roll-aways and get some grease under my nails again.... I heard Cruz Pedregon needs a supercharger guy... hmmmm... Bob F
  23. That's a great build. There are many here who feel their work is not that good. Then they post something like what you have just done and show us that is far from true. It looks great to my eyes and a few others so get back to building....... Welcome to the show. Bob F
  24. Thinking of Bud all the way...................... Live each day friends......................................................................... .......... Live it..... Bob f
  25. Not to worry my bud Zinn...... I have the wheels done and they are stock and spot on. I'll post em soon along with the rest of the car. Pain to paint though... I see your point. I even made new tailpipe ends as the kit ones were blegghhhh.... Amazing what you can do with files and aluminum tube hey???? I'll bring it and other new werks to MAMA in 2 weeks. Be sure to be there bro. New pix on this subject shortly. Bob F
