Yes, it's part of corporate life...I hear some of it every day at work. I just go on my way, in my cube leveraging my core competencies to actionize on deliverables that create shareholder value... client asked today if I'd re-up for another 6 month tour...been there 18 months, not a bad place to leverage synergies and make bank..

When I lived in Colorado Springs in the late 90s, one of my managers at a big telecom company was an obnoxious suburban middle aged golfer who was obsessed with WWF wrestling and gangster movies, he used to do a fake Hispanic gangster accent...greeting people as 'ese' or 'homes'...taking about 'busting caps', etc...was always quoting the movie 'Blood In, Blood Out'..

When I worked for a consulting firm a few years ago, at the initial meeting with a new client, the firm's CEO told the client that he would have 'boots on the ground' the following Monday...i.e. myself and 2 other software engineers at their office w/ our Mac Book Pro laptops getting started on a project....not exactly soldiers in enemy territory.

Yeah, ... thinking about the next gig.... the funny thing, in the software biz, I actually prefer working in a cube as opposed to an open office or a war room... I find those office approaches distracting, hard to focus.. great for communication, but so much of my work is very heads-down and detail oriented... (I did enjoy the one gig where I a had private office, though).

The funny thing is, I do alot of my thinking 'in the box' when at work...in my cubicle (not a completely closed box, of course).. ;0

Of course, a lot of these terms and phrases are generational in nature..each generation has it's own slang and jargon....this thread can look like a bunch of grumpy old men complaining about how things today aren't the way they were 'back in the day'.. Alas, given the demographics of this hobby, that is somewhat true...

Corporate jargon...I've heard that one for the last 20 years.... I've been a fan of the Dilbert comic strip since the 90s, and so much of what I've read in there has been reflective of my life in corporate cube land...like the movie 'Office Space'...was only slightly exaggerated. Other corporate jargon that I've found to be tiresome are talk of 'leveraging synergies', 'leveraging core competencies', 'pivoting','enabling teams', 'jumping the gap', and people that say 'Done' when asked to do something...it's not done until its done. Apparently in the UK, 'Right' is their equivalent of 'So' in starting sentences.. First heard that one in the late 90s at my first job after grad school... another odd one I remember from then was when someone said 'Come with?' ...as in 'can I come with you [to lunch or wherever]'...

Actually, it's an '83. The '84 has the colors reversed and a different grille. Not sure why the thread title says 1984.

Hmmm...I can't think of any kits with the trim ring style ones (would be ideal to use on for the Revell '76 Torino). The Magnum 500 kit wheels that I can think of--Revell '68-69 Charger, AMT '68 Road Runner, '69 GTXes, '70 Super Bee, Revell '70 Torino and Mustang Boss kits, are all the chrome rim variety IIRC..

I think of 'video' as the form, not the media...

Way cool...I've got Bluesmobiles in 1/64th, 1/43rd, 1/32nd, and 1/18th, about time we get them in 1/24th..

One anachronistic phrase I still use is 'roll down the window', though I haven't regularly driven a car w/ manual windows in over 20 years. 'power down the window' just doesn't take hold... I also do occasionally say 'tape' instead of 'record', though since I've had DVRs for 15 years or so.. Haven't had a corded landline phone in probably 25 years.. got my first cell 20 years ago, and have had cordless phones since the around '90 or so.... but we still call them 'ring tones'... haven't had a rotary phone since my folks got rid of the black AT&T around 35 years ago..

I think I saw a cell phone app that gives you a dial tone also..

IIRC the '69 Barracuda was once reissued in the '70s in the GSM box art, but the reissue next month is supposed to be in original '69 style..

Makes sense they would reissue it in a replica of the original box art..

If it's true to the original, it would be black..

There was a company (Better Place) a few years ago that was working on a hot-swappable model for car batteries, but it didn't pan out and they went bust Their idea was to pull into a garage/car wash style drive-thru, push a button and under the car an robot arm would yank the old battery and put in a new one..required lots of costly infrastructure and garages...they had a working pilot program w/ a fleet of Renault electric sedans in Israel. I like the concept of electric cars, esp. in large metro areas, but I'm not sure I'd buy one anytime soon. Hard to beat the go anywhere/anytime simplicity of ICE cars..

I predict they will sell maybe a half dozen before folding... there can't be that many Back to the Future fans out there willing to splash $100k on a mediocre 80s car.

Tesla has the Model 3 coming in a couple years, it will be their entry level model at around $35k, competitive with other electric cars like the Leaf, Focus Electric, etc..

Mmmm...maple bacon donuts...sounds tasty...I think one of the local specialty donut shops has something like that. Regarding the oil price changes, I wonder if it is lower in China, presumably where the raw styrene is made...
