2011 Le Mans recap
Rob Hall replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great race..I was out of town, but managed to follow along on Twitter and watched some at a friend's house in Denver Saturday. Watched some footage last night that I had tiVoed from Speed. Too many races this past weekend...I tiVoed the Indy Car and F1 races, going to watch them over the next couple of evenings.. -
Cool variation! Sharp build. The Nova kits lend themselves to so many different versions.

What kits can I use for a Chevy Celebrity?
Rob Hall replied to Agent G's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Speaking of Celebrities, I saw a Century Celebrity the other day---a worn out white 4dr Celebrity with a Buick Century front clip. I don't see many of the old FWD A-bodies on the road anymore. -
Nah..was in college in Ohio then..my sister saw in 89,90 though

Got my second Revell '10 Mustang GT in the mail this week, along w/ a AMT '70s Ford C600 City Delivery truck, unbuilt but incomplete, and some more Missing Link Resin Dodge and Plymouth dog dish hubcap sets (love those)...

Funny thing though--the import companies seem to be able to keep up...Revell of Germany and Fujimi seem to be pretty punctual w/ their releases of new subjects.. -
I've had mixed experiences w/ R&R over the last 10 years or so...bought direct from him at shows years ago and on web...some of it good quality, some not so much, some needs a lot of cleanup. In the last 5 years I've reliably bought a few R&R pieces from an ebay seller 'mightymouse'.

Cool..what kit did you start from on that. I built a Pantera kit back in the '80s, 1:24th Japanese curbside that was motorized, no interior door panels...molded in dark blue...Imai brand IIRC.
-
Who said anything about building anything? I haven't finished a build in...a while.
-
True enough..I love those '60s annuals...somehow I also ended up w/ 4 AMT '68 Cougars.
-
Yeah, in my spreadsheet I have columns to track where they are--home or in storage, which box they are in (I number my 12x12x16 storage boxes), which storage unit, which state (AZ, CO, OH).
-
Sharp build..I ordered the plain one from HLJ, it's on the way..
-
I've done that some, the problem I've had w/ relying on memory alone is it can be faulty...I've ended up buying dupes of some items over the years because I forgot I already had one (like Johan '65 Cadillac Coupe de Villes or AMT '68 T-birds..)

Maybe I can watch some live streaming footage on my phone over the weekend... Though I'll be in the mountains part of the weekend w/ limited cell coverage.

I remember buying the MPC '87 Mustang GT kit around the same time I got my 1:1 '87 Mustang GT new... -
That would be cool...IIRC, in the movie 'The Dark Knight' Bruce Wayne had a Lamborghini..don't recall if it was a regular Murcielago or a Reventon.
-
Great...that's what I figured. I have an extra LN Short Hauler in my stash somewhere... I just got in the mail a '70s era C600 City Delivery kit that I got off eBay..was advertised as complete except for the decals, but I found it to be missing the parts for the box as well...at least it was cheap...

Cool...F1 and Indy Car are my favorites--followed both for 30+ years.. followed by World Sportscar, ALMS and Grand Am...I like DTM, BTCC and World Touring Car, and V8 Supercars also...I do watch some NASCAR as well.. I used to follow WRC but none of my channels cover it these days.. Going to the 24 Hours of LeMans (and the 24 Hours of Daytona) and a couple European F1 races are on my long term race fan to-do list; I've been to the Indy 500, the Daytona 500, the Long Beach Grand Prix, and assorted other Indy Car and NASCAR races... (sometimes I wish I could have seen Le Mans in the late 60s-early 70s, or the Targa Florio, or F1 in the '60s-70s..or the Mille Miglia before that...but then I'd be really old today).

I'll have to try and tiVo some of it and the Canadian GP this weekend...alas, I'll be in Denver for the weekend.

The thing this interesting, though, is that diecast makers are much quicker to market w/ new designs than styrene kit makers...higher sales expectations and cheaper tooling costs, maybe? I'd love to see the '11 Charger, 300C, Durango and Grand Cherokee tooled up in 1:25th, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. An updated '11 Challenger SRT8 392 would be easy enough for Revell, though. -
Excel spreadsheets...

what ebay really means
Rob Hall replied to ra7c7er's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've bought over 1000 items on eBay over the last 14 years...maybe 250 old models, some promos, lots of diecast, Japanese models from sellers in Japan and Hong Kong, etc. Only had a handful of transactions go bad. As the internet flea market, there is a bit of everything on there...I even bought a driver's seat and seat track for my 1:1 Jeep on eBay a couple years ago and had it FedExed to me... The key to successful buying, IMO, is to check the seller's feedback, their ratings, how long theyv'e been on eBay, etc. I've bought from some sellers many times over the years without a problem..
