Beautiful build. Love the color.

There have been a lot of good new kits this decade, thought it is hard for me to think of one that really jumps out or made an impact more than others. I've enjoyed the various Tamiya and Fujimi Ferraris, the Tamiya Skyline GT-R, and numerous Revell issues--the '06-08 Mustangs and Shelbys, \ Dodge Magnum, '09 Challenger, '69 Novas, the '32 Fords and Chevy Tri-Five permutations come to mind... Been a lot of reissues from Revell, Lindberg, and AMT this decade, and we saw the extinction and return of AMT with the same year. The two new tools I'm most anticipating the rest of this year are the Revell '72 Olds Cutlass and Aoshima '09 Merc SL 63 AMG.

Whatever...why are you bringing religion into it? It's a banned topic on these forums. Believe what you want to believe. In normal convention, the current decade ends December 31, 2009. The '10s start January, 1, 2010. You guys wouldn't consider a '60 Falcon as a '50s car, or a '70 Cuda a '60s car, right? i.e. 1950-1959, 1960-1969, etc. Keep it simple and clear...

That Monza looks sweet...I have the '76 issue and the '80 issue (molded in yellow). I picked up at the LHS the Dukes of Hazzard '78 Monaco yesterday. I built this kit as a kid when it was first released in the early '80s, later built the TJ Hooker version as a cop car and have a couple of the Joker Goon versions, unbuilt. I figure I'll do this latest reissue as a stock Monaco, w/ phantom R/T trim (Rally wheels, hood scoops, bucket seats, 440 6 pack). I love the old MPC kits, warts and all. Looked at the new RoG VW Samba kit at the LHS, looks sharp..may have to get that one eventually.

1/25 Revell '72 Hurst/Olds Cutlass Kit
Rob Hall replied to W-Machine's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'll get 3, update my spreadsheets, put 'em in my 'to build' stash w/ 1500+ other unbuilts to build eventually.. -
Yes, but the convention is that a decade is from the *0 year through the *9 year..i.e. the '80s were 1980-1989, the '90s 1990-1999, and the '00s 2000-2009. Doesn't sound right the other way.

Problem is, the Revell '32 Ford started in the last decade ('96, IIRC)-- the last century, actually. And they have done 5 kits so far.
-
LHS had 3-4 of these new Revell AG buses at about $28 yesterday. Evers Toy Store (my favorite online kit seller for Revell) has them listed for $22.30. So this LHS is competitive w/ online when you factor in shipping, at least this one shop and this one kit. Varies widely for other kits, of course.

Odd they went w/ a multipiece body on a new tool. That's one retro detail that should stay in the past, IMHO.

Ya, the original issue '70 Bonneville conv that was reissued as an MK issue a couple years back. I have an original ht, but not one of the convertibles.

MPC Roscoes Patrol Car
Rob Hall replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The DOH, TJ Hooker, and Joker 4dr issues all have wheels and tires that are way too wide. I've never had the Force 440 kit--did it have the same wheels or more realistic police wheels? -
The REAL original "pony car"...
Rob Hall replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That thing is hideous...looks like a '40s car humpy rear roof grafted onto a Falcon. Was it finished? -

Yeah, or a thread on cars named after animals or mythical creatures... -

At least they didn't name it the Ant or Tick. -
The REAL original "pony car"...

As defined in my previous post. Anyway, it's all a moot point. Why is it that much of what goes on on the Internet is just arguing over trivia, over and over again -
The REAL original "pony car"...
Rob Hall replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Because the Camaro and Firebird were GM's pony cars. The Chevy II was just Chevy's Falcon equivalent compact (along with the unorthodox Corvair)..not a pony car. Same reason the Barracuda and Challenger were Mopar's pony cars and not the Valiant and Dart, likewise for the Javelin and not the Rambler American. What the 'pony cars' had in common is they all had specific body work, sporty styling, and were all 2drs and seated 4, and tended to have the long hood, short deck styling of the era. No 4drs, no wagons. That's what separated them from the conventional compacts like the Chevy II, Falcon, etc. I tend to think of terms such as muscle car, pony car as specific to the '60s-70s. For today's cars, I think in terms like performance car, sports sedan, sports coupe, sports car, etc. -

Ford had an interesting run of bird and horse cars there for a while, with the Thunderbird, Falcon, Mustang, Bronco, Maverick, Pinto...and cats at Mercury w/ Cougar and Bobcat. -

So had the Barracuda been a bigger success than the Mustang, would the niche have been called 'fish cars'? -
Beautiful builds... I've been an F1 fan for about 30 years, since I discovered it reading Road & Track as a kid...only recently I've started getting into the kits. What kits are these?

Kei car models? are there any?
Rob Hall replied to B_rad88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've ridden in a regular HHR, found it difficult to see out of, can imagine the panel is worse. Pretty funny line about the interior plastic.... I've seen nicer interior plastic in Revell kits.. Alas, the HHR, like so many cars at the cheaper end of the market today, is a sea of nasty gray plastic inside...not as nasty as the Caliber I've ridden in, though. I hate gray plastic interiors. -
The REAL original "pony car"...
Rob Hall replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe part of it was that the original Barracuda was just a Valiant with a different roof, while though the Mustang was based on the Falcon, it had it's own body and interior..didn't look like the Falcon at all... The most appealing Barracudas weren't until the '70-74 E-bodies, IMHO. -
"View New Posts"
Rob Hall replied to Bernard Kron's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I always use 'View New Posts' then later occasionally go to individual forums (New Releases, Resin, etc) to see past threads I might have missed previously that are of interest. 'View New Posts' is the most useful feature on the various forums (modeling, 1:1 cars, technology, etc) on the internet that I frequent. -
1/25 Revell '72 Hurst/Olds Cutlass Kit
Rob Hall replied to W-Machine's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Ya, I preordered a couple from my usual OLD for $17.55 each..pretty reasonable for a new tool 2 n 1. Nice to see the windshield frame done as a separate chrome part, that's the way they are usually done on Danbury Mint and Franklin Mint 1:24th diecasts. -
1/25 Revell '72 Hurst/Olds Cutlass Kit
Rob Hall replied to W-Machine's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Maybe..I bet there will be an interesting 2nd kit next year to follow on. And of course, I've gathered all the resin parts and aftermarket stripes to do a '70 442 W30, Rally 350, and '71 and '72 442s w/ my 5 Johan '70 fastbacks... Given R-M's history of IPC kits, I wouldn't be surprised if #2 isn't a '70 442 Indy Pace Car convertible. One thing I realized...is this Revell's first stock Oldsmobile kit ever? (or Monogram, for that matter) Can't think of any others in the past. -
Cool Rambler...that color reminds me of the color of the '66 Rambler Classic my grandpa had in the mid to late '70s...he and grandma would come up from Kentucky and visit us in Ohio; my Dad would always dump several quarts of oil in it, it smoked.
