  1. My philosophical views on humanity over the years have evolved from very idealistic to cynical to downright postmodernly nihilistic..
  2. Didn't the Masons work to keep down the metric system in the US? No, wait, that was the Stonecutters. Rob
  3. Speaking of Free Masons, I'm reading the new Dan Brown book now...pretty good so far..just got to the half way point last night.
  4. The last time I moved, I bubble wrapped each built up inside their boxes (I keep all my kit boxes) then packed the boxes 10-12 to a Public Storage 12x12x16 medium box, then those boxes went into one of my storage units... For loose builtups and restorable kits that I've bought used off ebay w/o original boxes, I store those in solid 550-count sports card boxes, usually w/ some bubble wrap inside.
  5. That's cool...I want to build something like that as a replica of the '79 SWB Power Wagon I learned to drive in...my Dad had one in the '80s for a few years.. had a 318 and a bad habit of stalling on left turns. Silver green inside and out.
  6. Looking forward to the SL63 AMG...just spotted it on HLJ's site a few min ago.
  7. Hmmm...looks like an ordinary truck and trailer..nothing about it indicates it's special cargo.
  8. I remember the whole Y2k hype quite well...I was working from mid '97 to the end of '99 at a major telecom company and there were large groups all around working to correct problems with legacy systems that had 2 digit date fields. Ultimately, everything there worked smoothly after the 1st. I was working on new web applications then, so I didn't have to deal w/ the problems of the older systems. Can't believe it's been 10 years now..time flies.
  9. Yeah, 2012 is only a little over 2 years away. And Buick will have two new sedans and a compact crossover within the next 18-24 months from what I've read. The sedans are a so far unnamed compact based on Delta II platform (shared with the Chevy Cruze and new Opel Astra) and the midsize is the new SWB Epsilon II Opel Insignia-based Regal (already on sale in China). The new LWB Epsilon II LaCrosse just went on sale for MY 2010, and the aging Lucerne will likely be gone by 2011. With Pontiac and Saturn gone, GM will be adding models to Buick and GMC to fill the middle gap between Chevy and Cadillac. I just know that within the next 12 months I most likely will be far away from Arizona. Rob
  10. I'll have to give HW a try...been buying from HLJ since around 2000. I've bought from Hobby Search (another Japanese dealer) once or twice. I've also bought Aoshima wheel sets from Model Express. As far as today, I got an email notification that the Fujimi BBS wheels shipped from HLJ.
  11. Sweet...looks like it could be the same color..Medium Canyon Red? I've kept mine bone stock except for replacing the factory AM/FM casette w/ a Sony AM/FM CD player... thinking about getting an '11 GT convertible ('11 is when the new Coyote 5.0 engine will be available) to go with it...for my midlife crisis car..
  12. Sharp build.... I've got a bunch of semi truck and trailer kits, but I haven't built one yet...
  13. Ya, I do enjoy some science fiction...I remember enjoying the Tom Baker Dr Who and the original Star Trek in reruns as a kid in the late '70s-early '80s. I really like the David Tennant series, as well as Torchwood.
  14. Got home and had a couple mail packages--an AMT '59 Ford Galaxie conv. box that I won on eBay, new home for the restorable '59 convertible builtup I bought last year, and some Modelhaus '59 Buick resto parts for a '59 convertible I got recently from eBay.
  15. Well, in 2012, I will be 42, which is a magic number unto itself. I'm cynical and skeptical; I don't put any weight or significance into prophecies or whatever about 2012...if it can't be proven through mathematics or science, I don't believe it... Live for today--in the moment---plan for tomorrow, don't live in the past...
  16. My first car was an '84 Ford Escort diesel, 5dr w/ 5spd manual. But it was one of my folks cars, so I shared it w/ them my junior year in high school until I got my first new car, an '87 Mustang GT--5.0 w/ 5spd manual, which I still have 22 years later...has only 63k miles. My college car was an '86 Mustang LX 2.3 sedan w/ 4spd manual, since the GT was too nice to let sit outside at college in Ohio. The LX was totaled a few years later when I moved to Michigan for grad school, replaced by an '88 Bronco II XLT 4x4, my first SUV. Here's a pic of the '86 and '87 Mustangs together around 1990.
  17. I didn't trade anything. And the government doesn't have access to user's computers through this...what you are talking about is a standard website EULA. That's just propaganda being spread by delusional anti-government right wing nut jobs, which the US has way too many of.
  18. You mean the Focus? Ford hasn't had an Escort in probably 10 years...
  19. Now that sounds like delusional right wing ranting to me.. please, leave that nonsense to Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and the other wackos out there...
  20. Speaking of C4C, I received a number of solicitations in the mail from various auto dealers incl. the one I bought my Jeep from new inviting me to C4C my Jeep. A 2000 w/ over 100k miles, it was prime C4C material...but mine is in excellent condition and probably is worth more than $4500, and I still like it.. Going to keep it for winter use when I buy my next new car.
  21. Politically, the bill would never have passed had it been limited to domestics...all the Reps/Senators from states w/ foreign plants would voted against it.
  22. Haven't heard of him...will have to check it out..anyone have a link?
  23. A list of vanilla FWD generics...reliable, dull point A to point B cars....which the mainstream loves.
