Finding model cars, parts on ebay
Rob Hall replied to Bruce Poage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's easy..from the main page, I search for specifically what I'm looking for---e.g. 'resin ford' for resin Ford parts, 'resin hood' for resin hoods, 'MPC Dodge' for MPC Dodge kits of all sorts, or 'AMT Buick', 'AMT 65 Mustang', etc...and scroll through the results.. -
I'm trying to figure out which Challenger to use for mine... I have a couple of built MPC '70s, but I like them the way they are... I may use a Reliable Resin body with the AMT Challenger innards..
-
Cool...I've been gathering the parts to do an XV style Challenger eventually...6.1 Hemi from a Magnum kit, Aoshima wheels, etc..
-
where do you get your models?
Rob Hall replied to Hartness53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I get kits from many sources....local hobby shops, online vendors, ebay, local shows.. As far as the online vendors go, my favorites are Evers Toy Store for Revell, AMT and Lindberg kits (great website, great customer service) and Hobby Link Japan for Fujimi, Aoshima, Tamiya, etc. I've used Model Express occasionally also. I used Hobby Heaven as well before they folded. For supplies I get most everything from the local shops. -
Test shot Pics Revell '70 AAR 'Cuda
Rob Hall replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
There are some wierd things going on with the body...the wheelbase is the same as the '71 (1:24th, ex-Monogram), but when I compare the bodies side by side, the rear (decklid, tulip panel, quarter panels) is considerably longer on the '70 AAR body, and the curvature of the rear quarters is different... if both bodies were accurate, the '70 and '71 bodies would be shaped the same.. -

It's nice that the sandbox isn't filled with kitty litter.. -

The earlier version, though, had a wierd chop-top look to the side window openings (which seemingly was later copied by Johnny Lightning for their 1:64 AAR).. -

I suppose if I got ambitious/insane I could try a roof and tulip panel swap with the Monogram '71 (since the '70 is 1:24th also). -

I'm looking forward to comparing mine when I get it tomorrow against the Monogram '71, MPC '70 and Johan '71 bodies to see what the problems really are...I've seen lots of claims based on the test shots, but I want to see for myself what the issues are.. -
Beautiful...I have the Fujimi Daytona coupe and Especiale in my to-build stash.

Heh-heh..I have the same idea..I have the Perry's AAR parts and two sets of the Perry's Hemi parts, and 3 of the blue '80s issue MPC '74 Cudas...I have the parts and plans to do a '70 AAR, '70 Hemi ht w/ dog dish hubcaps from SELtd, and a '70 Hemi Cuda convertible...both of the Hemis using the engine from AMT '68 Road Runners, and a '71 Duster 340 for the AAR. More ideas than time to work on them.. -

I have one of these new issues on order...if I get really ambitious, maybe I'll try and swap parts with the Revell '71. I have a couple of the MPC '70s in my stash, one built, one unbuilt....and I've got the Perry's Resin AAR parts to use with an MPC '74 to convert to a '70 eventually... -
I discovered Jo-Han about the same time I got into modeling, 1978...my first glue kits were the Revell 'Bad Dream' '56 Chevy and a Jo-Han 'USA Oldies' '60 Plymouth wagon...followed by several AMT 'Countdown Series' kits. I built a few Jo-Han kits through the '80s--'69 AMX, '75 Cutlass, Marlin, '68 Fury, '68 Chrysler 300, etc. When I got back into modeling in the late '90s in my late 20s I started adding a few vintage Jo-Hands to my collection--have a nice bunch now incl. a '59 Olds 98, '61,'62 Olds 88, '61-67 Cadillacs, '70,'71,'74,'75 Eldorados,'66-'71 Toronados, '65-68 Furies, etc... the big gaps that are on my grail list are the late '60s Ambassadors and Rebels. I've always liked Jo-Hans for their body accuracy and the off-beat subjects.

Ads are probably going to get more annoying and loud as the number of people that actually see them keeps dwindling.. I've been using a tiVo for 5 years now and hardly ever watch live TV anymore, always watch delayed or later and skip over the commercials...the use of PVRs/DVRs has been rising in recent years...
-
Now that the Revell '70 AAR 'Cuda is on sale, I ordered one yesterday...probably won't have it 'till early next week...hopefully, it will be better than the first issue.. Other than that, nothing new...I'm waiting on the next round of Model King reissues.

I ordered one from Evers also.. they are my favorite online kit vendor, they have the easiest to use website and they always have new releases in stock faster than others... I've used Model Express also...Fantastic Plastics and Model Roundup seem to have a good selection, but they don't have an easy to use shopping cart system on their websites (too much typing required).

I've seen the '70 AAR as being available on a couple of vendor sites (my usual new kit source, Evers Toy Store (www.everstoystore.com has it listed as in stock.). I'll probably get one later this week. (I remember being dissapointed by the original AAR issue years ago). I was talking about the '71 Hemi Cuda.. it's now out as a 2n1, basically the stock version and street machine versions in one box. The box art clearly shows a black vinyl top. I already have a few '71s in my stash, but I'd pick up another if it now has a vinyl top...
-
I've noticed that the box art for the Revell '71 Hemi Cuda (#2087) has changed to the 'Revell Muscle' style and shows a red-orange model w/ a black vinyl top (photo of a model, not 1:1). I don't recall the Monogram '71 Cuda having a vinyl top in previous versions... Anyone have one and can confirm that the tooling has changed, or is Revell now following AMT's lead of misleading box art?

I like the magazine, I like models and modeling, I like how this board seems to attract all sorts of modelers and subjects, good resin coverage, good new kit coverage. Also, since the board is not tied to a kit vendor, no having to censor yourself when talking about places to source kits from. And no 'grom'! -
Revell '66 El Camino 2n1 "California Wheels"

I'd like to see the '59 reissued, I could use a couple sets of those wheels also, and the FI unit. -
Lindberg Ford Crown Vic State Patrol kits
Rob Hall replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I picked up one of the plain white ones and the CHP ones and ordered the Modelhaus steelies/w hubcaps for them. I figure the white one I'll fill the holes and do as an unmarked or detective car. I've got a few of the original issue Ohio ones in my stash to build eventually...too bad Lindberg never retooled to do a '98+ model. -
1:24, assuming it's based off the other '70s they did.. (Boss 302, Boss 429).

The Lincoln version of the Taurus/Sable--the MKS-- looks like it's going to be pretty nice..it's coming for 2009 (I've read it's going to be seen in the upcoming Batman movie).
