  1. Bob, you are welcome. Glad I could pay it forward after receiving lots of help from fellow builders in the past
  2. @krassandbernie Ed, I know you're not here often but maybe you'll get an email if I tag you?
  3. I'm no expert, but I like to help fellow builders when I can. I also try to point things out to someone as they are building a model, not after it is completed. I'm not a fan of publicly calling things out on someone's completed build especially when it is often so difficult to fix the issue without causing damage to other aspects of the build. Bringing things up during construction is the perfect time. Following along intently.
  4. First off, Latham blown Ardun, very cool (and extremely expensive in current 1:1) The exit point for airflow of that type of blower is all the way at the back of the unit. So you may want to shorten your extension to the pulley and slide the whole assembly forward 2-3 MM (roughly 2-3 scale inches). @Ace-Garageguy could probably confirm. This pic shows how the entire unit is moved forward so the exit lines up with the center inlet on the intake of this engine. This one is set up for the charged air to exit on the sides instead of out the bottom, but this helps illustrate that the charged air exits out the rear of the unit.
  5. It's obviously your call based on your own experiences, but I don't know that I would judge all MPC products based on one kit. Especially a kit like a Switchers kit. I'm sure other builders will come of with a plethora of good MPC kit examples
  6. Thanks for the info. I thought it was safe to compare what I thought was apples to apples. Kit A hits Europe in June, then hits NA 3 months later. Kit B hits Europe in October, so kit B hits NA??? Either way, I'm just glad to have the kit back and already have 2 on pre-order.
  7. Is it reasonable to assume that Revell releases coming to North America are running about 3 months behind Europe (due to backed up ports, Covid, etc)? Since earlier in this thread shops in Europe had this kit back in June and are just now hitting shelves in the USA, I can maybe expect the 30 coupe that appears to be hitting shelves in Europe starting last month, in the US in January?
  8. For the rest of the story, follow the link https://public.fotki.com/crstan/finished_models_by_me/survivors/life-cereal-faux-vi/the-con/1633718949312.html
  9. Now that I've discovered this thread, let me jump in with the first of many contributions. This 60 edsel was purchased at a club meeting. At the time I was pretty happy to find one at a decent price, but then realized it was broken in several places, and didn't have any chrome. Thankfully Modelhaus was still in operation... The panel below the trunk was pretty straighforward, but how to fix the broken fenders? The pieces were long gone, so it wasn't a matter of gluing them back and doing some bodywork. Thankfully my friend Ed Fluck (Drag City Casting) stepped in. (thanks Ed @krassandbernie) He had a wagon body left over from his dads business (F+F Resin) that sent to me so I could cut off the front of the body and swap it onto mine. And, here's the end result I managed to keep the original builders wild interior paint job
  10. Just read through all 25 pages of this thread. That was fun. not sure how I've never seen this thread before, but I will be jumping in with some before-and-afters of my own very soon.
  11. This build is very well done. I was on the fence over this kit because I already have the Fujimi and Harold Bradford engine set. But your build is making me think of selling those off and getting this instead. Don't get me wrong, the HB transkit is very nice, but I really think i just want something quick and fairly painless to get on the shelf This Meng kit seems to be decently detailed and well engineered, and your clean build technique is really taking it to the next level.
  12. Maybe I'm just being pedantic, but these are not "artillery wheels". These are wire wheels. it may be deceiving because the spokes are thicker than 1:1 would be, but that necessitated by the plastic molding process. Here's some examples of actual "artillery" style wheels, which are usually made out of solid steel with perforation cut or cast into the design.
  13. So, after re-reading this thread, was it ever determined if this kit actually includes a dropped front axle, or not?
  14. I have been after one for years. I also would be interested if anyone has one to part with.
  15. You can get it lower by removing material from the inside of that crossmember like Espo suggested earlier. That will allow the spring to sit into the frame, gaining you a little drop. Beyond that, to get any lower you'll have to start z-ing the frame, or at least switching out the kit axle for something with a heavier drop.
  16. You have to remember that the "new" Revell model A frames are stretched slightly over stock. That's why none of the available fender units fit them. However, the the AMT 29 Pickup/Woody parts practically drop on the fender/frame assembly from the AMT 29 Roadster kit (the one that used to be the double kit with the AlaKart) right @Dave Darby?
  17. Not going to complain, because the Monte version of this kit is a good looking car. But man I hope they get to the Camaro and/or Cuda. Passed on the recent GTO, but I believe I will pick up the Monte. And I'm not a stock car guy.
  18. It's decent kit. Nice to have it molded in white, which I think is a first in it's long history. The tooling actually started as the 28 Sedan, but that kit only got one issue before it was changed into this woody/pickup kit. Take note that there is no separate frame on this one, the detail is molded into the fender unit. The front axle is kind overly beefy too, but passable if detail painted. Really wish they had brought back the Hot Curl figure and surfboard with this reissue. Would have looked great next to it again after a looong absence
  19. Honestly surprised Round2 hasn't reissued this one. I wouldn't build it as the OBS, probably convert to a street rod like Tim Boyd showed in that other mag. But this gasser is a drag truck is a great concept too.
  20. I am soooo sorry i keep forgetting to check my stash when I get home. Will try again today (I just set a reminder on my phone)
  21. Tim, thank you for taking the time to share this buildup with us. I kind of wondered to myself how this would all go down when you announced it, but knew in my heart exactly how the reactions would go. And my heart was right. Thank you for continuing to persevere. I understand peoples frustrations with the kit development process. But whether the kit is accurate or not I'm not ready to debate, until I see your completed build and then have one in my own hands.
  22. I applaud resourcefulness. If that's the route you choose let me help you out a bit. When i created my sport coupe, I removed the roof portion from a 5 window body, and then modified a roof from a Monogram 30 ford cabriolet to fit. Replicas and Miniatures offered it for awhile, and I managed to build this out of it...
  23. I'm a 32 fanatic, so you have my attention Looks like you're well on your way to solving a couple of the missing body styles, here's a couple suggestions Both the b400 and "station wagon" woody are available inexpensively from Jimmy Flintstone. The woody portion of the woody is quite a bit different from the 29 body you're starting with. The cabriolet used to be available from Replicas and Miniatures, but is sadly discontinued. mastered by Lyle Willits its a very nice piece. maybe post in the wanted section you are looking for one?
  24. You may want to re-read Tim's actual comment. It doesn't say Mr Metzner actually said that Take a step back and maybe actually wait until the finished build is presented here as Tim has repeatedly requested. As a major contributor to this hobby for decades I think he at least deserves that much respect
  25. I have bought quite a few of these kits, both first and current issue. Most of them have been parted out, so I may have a windshield frame to spare. I'll take a look when i get home if you're interested.
