  1. I realize your build is complete, awesome job by the way. Just wanted to clarify, you have to buy the original version of the Attempt 1 to get the chute (pictured here). It was left out of all the re-issues. That is because it is made from vacuum formed plastic. Revell probably didn't see fit to spend the money on it for eventual reissues. The cool thing about that issue is that it also included a trailer especially for that car (and other dragsters of that size.) It was also left out of any reissues i believe.
  2. It looks like he used your trick of the 32 frame from the Revell A kits mated with the 32 fenders based on the molded in spreader bar up front.
  3. Very cool. I've been following this from the beginning, but i never realized you started with one of the Drag City bodies i mastered. It's gratifying to see them get built up, and this one has to be wildest I've seen. Well done.
  4. Yup, that's the article. You're ahead of the game!
  5. Just discovered this thread because I am way behind on going through the forum. That frame idea is awesome. As a big fan of 32 Fords this could be a solution to so many future builds. Glad the fenders fit the from from the A kit, just shows the 32 frame in that kit is true to the 32 design. I believe that body is by Jimmy Flintstone, which i believe was mastered off an old Mike's Miniature Motors body (which yours could be the MMM body as well)
  6. Did this get finished up? I remember seeing this somewhere when you started it. great to see it in color
  7. Just a quick history on this kit, it started in the early 60's with the choice of making a roadster or chopped 3 window coupe. Then in the 70's the tooling was changed to make the 3 window roof stock height. Then in the late 80's they took the tooling and turned it into a 5 window. That's why there is a convertible top floating around with no windshield (the cowl is missing as well). Not sure why they left the convertible top in the 5 window kit, but who knows.
  8. Following along this one. I inherited this exact kit from my dad during my formative years of building 30+ years ago, and promptly butchered it. I sold the parts on eBay waaay back when it first started and have regretted letting it go ever since. I have the 90's issue and the 2000's issue with the flathead, but I would sure love to have that molded in black version again someday. Your kit looks minty, nice score. By the way, Rod and Custom Models did a 2 part article on channeling this kit way back in 64 when it was new. Maybe you can find those issues (or someone can share some scans) to give you some guidance on the mods. You're off to a solid start.
  9. I love those wheels from the Revell snap 57, but always struggled with putting them on a hot rod because of the sheer size of the fronts. but pairing them with the fronts from the revell model A's solves that problem elegantly. Well done
  10. I think the most recent version of that kit was the Pepper Shaker, which was out just a few years ago. I would be willing to loan you that blower to make a mold as you mentioned. If still interested PM me.
  11. I'm glad when people bump this thread because I get to read through all the great fabrication that take us through again Bill. Just like all your other build threads. Hoping this will eventually make it back to your bench.
  12. That supercharger has been in every issue of the original tool AMT 57 Bel Air from the early 60's (with the possible exception of a couple issues where the owners of AMT at the given time pulled all the custom parts out to make it stock only)
  13. Thank you very much for your response. I happen to have a few of the 40 cabs floating around, so I may go that route. Although, i do detest the opening doors on that cab so maybe the 37 would be better.
  14. Hey Bill. I realize this thread hasn't been touched in 9 years, but you shared it the other dy in another post so i decided to check it out. Great idea of using the Monogram 36 fenders to get the beefier look of the 38 truck fenders. I had heard that the 40 Ford pickup cab was a better starting point to make a 38. Any thoughts?
  15. See, I thought I was crazy. I swore I had never seen that color in that line before. Really hoping we get more new colors if that's the case. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Extreme Lacquer line survived the culling of Testors paint lines. it seems to be pretty readily available at Hobby Lobby again, along with their standard line of paints Michael, love the color, and the mods you're making are spot on. it's nice to see someone treat the front shock mounts and other suspension points as metal and not chrome like they should be
  16. This looking really tough. Great stance, nice chop. @tim boyd needs to see this, he's a big proponent of this kits merits Curious, it looks like you may have used the rear crossmember from the Revell 40 as well? What's the reasoning behind that? Making it easy to mate up with the revell 40 suspension, or something else?
  17. With the way you have the engine dressed, this is my favorite companion wheel/tire setup. However, there are other choices you presented that would look great too, it's just this is my favorite Glad you're taking the time to file away the extra long ribs on the floor pan so the frame sits flush. That gains you about a scale inch of lowering. You probably already planned to, but please fill the notches in the floor pan where the interior side panels slot in.
  18. I found the article. August 1964 issue of Rod & Custom. I have already started the version on the left of the Surf Woody from memory. Now I can get back to it.
  19. No, that's not the one I was thinking of. Armed with Vince's information below it looks like I'm off to dig out my 64 R+C's. I do like that illustration though, especially the low slung style of the carbs/scoops. Thanks Vince. I'll be going home to dig out my 1964 R+C's to start with. What you describe sounds like the artwork I'm thinking of.
  20. Misha, I know this is a long shot since this thread is 6 years old, but I have a feeling this pic is the artwork I'm looking for. I saw the Tom Daniels sketch of the original idea he had for the Surf Woody in an old magazine, but have been unable to find it again. I would like to build a version closer to his original sketch. Anyone have any idea what magazine it was in? From what i remember it was a small sketch, about 4x4 inches. May have been part of a bigger article about building ideas like they used to do back then.
  21. Still swimming in Apache wheels Casey? ? But seriously, wish Round2 could find the tooling and give us at least one of these versions. Image the MachOne with pad printed gold line tires, the Apache wheels and a tinted clear tree to go with stock clear one? Then offer those gold lines in a Parts pack! daydreaming again ?
  22. I really wish they would off a lower cost airbrush friendly option. What i mean is the chrome spray by itself in a small quantity without all the other stuff, so it would come out cheaper than the 12oz spray bomb. I may go with the 12oz spray to get my feet wet, so to speak, based on your recommendation. But like you said, you're wasting quite a bit with the spray can instead of airbrush. Maybe someone should start a new topic with this to keep it focused on what appears to be a possibly revolutionary product for our hobby?
  23. I don't think they can. Someone will surely correct me, but something to do with the tooling being altered into a monster truck i seem to recall
  24. Dragging up a very old topic, but I just scored a rough builtup Turbo Vette. Sadly missing the clear roof and one of the exhaust manifolds (anyone, lol???) The point of my bringing this up is the frame was very heavily glued. Almost nothing was salvageable except the wheels and tires. How close is the Mako(later Custom Corvette) frame to this one? I know both of those kits are also hard to get at this point, but at least it broadens my search options. It really a shame because this kit had the metal springs and articulating front suspension, but man this kid used a LOT of glue.
  25. I'm only throwing the HEMI out there based on the builtup that Mr Duff shared from the kit announcement at IPMS. The original double kit that featured the Fiat had the nailhead in the box, so I'm hoping that's what they include this time as well.
