1961 Oldsmobile F85 Station Wagon -now in 'Under Glass'
Modlbldr replied to maltsr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Beautiful paint work. Makes me think of the paint job I want to accomplish on my 41 Chevy pickup, but in shades of blue. Later- -
Interesting build so far. Curious to see how it will look. Are you interested in trading off the 64 Caddy front bumper and grille? If so, PM me. Later-

Thanks guys for the comments. Yeah, the upper a arms took the better part of 4 hours just in building and test fitting. But I like how they look. Going to need some bit of detail since the whole front end tilts (or will when I'm finished) forward. I also managed to pick up a can of Krylon Catalina Mist Satin paint for the main body color. That is the same color that one of the other builders on this sight used on his "Voodoo Psychosis" build. I think it will be a great match for the 1:1 primary paint color. I'll try the scallops in a dark metallic green. Later-

Been working on the front suspension over the last couple of days. I used the suspension part from the Super Stallion Mustang before I realized that it had no upper suspension detail. I made some upper A arms and an air bag set up just to give a bit more detail since this thing has a flip front end. Here it is before paint and final assembly. Not much to show for the amount of work involved. How depressing. Later-

Thanks guys for the feedback. I think a build of the actual car would be great. Go for it. I got a bit more done today. I filled and sanded the gap in the rear bumper. Got to do some searching tonight for an overrider. Not sure what kit I may find one in. I also filled or boxed in the front frame rails and started scratching some upper A arms. No pics of any work today. Stay tuned for an update probably Wednesday. Later-

Wow! That trim work turned out great. Looks like a lot of work but what results. Perfect! Later-

This is one of my favorite T/A's. Great to see someone building it. I've been wanting to do this or another version for years. I also have a 67 or 68 Camaro in mind. I'll be watching. Later-

I think I might be on to something here. I like this much better. Now I just need to fill the ft gap and find a nice overrider. Later-

Correct. I got the idea for the taillights from a picture of Yenry Herrera's 50 Chevy Fleetline that uses laid down 56 Packard taillights. He also uses a 56 Chevy rear bumper and I have been toying with the idea of this too. If I do, it will require extensive reshaping of the rear of the car and the bumper. Later-

Thanks again for all of the fine comments. I appreciate them. High Octane- I would love to see this and a few of his other builds in person. So I have been continuing the focus on the rear fender area. Fitting the taillights has been a chore since I just hacked a spot for them originally. Now I am having to go back and fit and fill the areas. I am close now. I think the tops of the fenders are finalized. I made a rear splash pan that follows the contour of the bumper. I still have a lot of cleanup and I want to make some chrome taillight surrounds. I'm not sure how I feel about the bumper, but for now I don't have many other ideas. Later-

You're back! Fantastic. I always loved your builds. Very creative and highly detailed and this one is no different. Great job on the concept and I look forward to seeing what else you have going. Later-

Nice top chop for your first. At least it is a relatively straight forward job. I have a couple of those kits and many, many parts for early 30's kits. If you need something or have some thing in mind for customizing it, let me know and I will try to help. Later-

Wow! I love the colors you used. Much better than the red, in my opinion. And the white interior contrasts it perfectly. Thanks for sharing. Later-

That is some fantastic workmanship you are doing. Good thing you have the real one to reference from. Keep it up and congrats on the new job. Later-

Great looking build. You wouldn't happen to know the brand and color of paint for the body? I am building a modified version of Larry's Voodoo Creeper (in the workbench section under "Boulevard Creeper") and the main paint color is very similar. Plus, I want a satin paint anyway. Later-

Wow! Nice detail work. This is looking fantastic. I like the use of the shirt fabric for the carpet. I would have never thought of that. Keep it up. Later-

Thanks guys. I really have enjoyed this build but it gets daunting at times. I will keep at it for now. Later-

That is looking great. Nice to see a non SS built. You've done a nice job. Later-

This is a bit better. Not much work tonight but at least it's back on the bench. Most of tonight was spent updating everything in Photobucket and figuring where I was at on the build. Later-

Looking at the above photos one thing that has bothered me is the great amount of space between the rear bumper and the rear pan. To reduce this I decided to slope the rear pan more toward the rear by laying it more on a horizontal. To do this I began by cutting through the rear pan on each side at the inboard side of the taillights and then pushing the bottom of the pan out toward the rear.Confused??? It will probably make more sense once I post pictures of it. That will be later though. Next I will work on cleaning up the actual taillight areas of the rear fenders. Later-

So I dug this one back out to work on it. Here are some photos of where I got before I put it away. I liked the taillight treatment on this 1:1, so I tried to copy it. I still have a lot of work to do to get the taillights done. Now you may be able to tell why I got burned out on it. But, it's back in the rotation. Now to get to work on it. Later-

Beautiful car. I like all of the custom touches you added. And, yes, a nice color combo. Later-

Looks great! I have this body and I think I have that frame. Unfortunately I think that's all I have. I'd like to find some parts to build a fictional one myself. Thanks for the tip on the body and engine sequence. I will be watching this one. Later-

Beautiful work. Doesn't look like much left to get it finished. Later-
