Question about AMT 57 Chevy kit
Modlbldr posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just picked up a partial kit of an AMT 57 Chevy without a box or instructions. I am curious about a date of this kit because there are parts that I have not seen before. It is molded in white plastic. I would love to post pictures of it but for some reason I cannot get PB to post. The parts that I have not seen before are the tires and the custom wheel covers. The tires are Firestone Supremes with a thin whitewall on one side and a red line on the other. The wheel covers are chromed and conical shaped with four flat triangle shapes evenly spaced around the face of the wheel. I know that this is an old version because there was also an unopened tube of AMT putty in the box. Any help in a kit date and what the wheel covers are would be great. Thanks. Later- -

I picked up this AMT 57 Chevy kit and was curious what year it might be. It didn't have a box, instructions or a body. The custom wheel covers are ones I've never seen and the tires are printed with white walls on one side and red lines on the other. It came with an old tube of AMT putty that is still sealed but no lid. this HTML class. Value is [URL=http://s486.pho

That looks like a fun build Frank. Someday I'll have to try one of those. Good job finishing it up. Later-

Turned out great. Must have been the extra day....lol Later- -
Yeah, JT. I really want to see that Mustang finished. Later-

Thanks again guys. I had bought this years ago with the intention of doing a modern style dune buggy by sectioning/trimming off the very bottom of the body sides and adding a buggy interior bucket. I may find another kit someday and give it a try. Later-

Beautiful job on the three day build. I like your choice of pant on this. We will have to do this again next year. Later-

Fantastic build Randy. These were beautiful cars and your build shows that perfectly. Love the color too. Later- -
Thanks Clayton. I enjoyed the work you did on that Nova. Great paint work. Later-

I threw my hat in the ring this last weekend to do the 3 day weekend CBP. I let my wife pick the kit out of 5 different kits I figured fit the bill. She picked the Vette AGIN and said that she wanted me to paint it Sublime Green. I had raided the kit for the tires and wheels a while back so I grabbed a set from the parts box. Here is what I ended up with. The engine: The paint on the seat was the result of a long night and a couple of adult beverages. Need to touch it up. The rest: It was a fun little build but the front sits a bit too high. There is also no mirrors or license plate. I may add these later. Later-

Thanks Sean. I've seen many others make tail lights out of things. That's the reason I've kept just about any piece of red plastic for quite a while and this is the first time I've made one. The curve of the pen was perfect for the light. It only took me about 5 minutes to make it then a half hour to wait for the Future to dry enough to install. Later-

I FINISHED!! (At least with what comes in the kit. It still needs a license plate and at least one mirror. I also would like to spend a little time tweaking the front stance but probably wont. This is a fun little kit. It wasn't too bad going together.I had originally bought this years ago to do an updated version of a Speed Buggy type of dunebuggy. Thanks for all of the kind replies throughout. I had a blast and now have another kit for the shelf at work. Good work everyone! Later-

Take one tail lighy, one pen and a little determination and this is the results. Kit light on the left, mine on the right. Just need to add a bit of Future polish. I'm still in this. Got just a bit left. Later-

Everything looks great guys. Much better than mine. Too bad about the back Rob. Don't worry. It will get done. I'm thinking that I will be able to finish. We will see Later-

Finally a little something to break up all of the green. Upon further inspection I just realized that I am missing one tail light! Now for plan B. Later-

Looking good guys. I like the way my engine turned out but the detailing on the seats leaves a lot to be desired. I guess that's what I get for trying to paint the yellow in my dark garage in between chatting with friends after trying a lemon drop martini and a mojito last night. I may need to go back and touch them up, if I find time. Later-

This is the current ride height. Not good. The rear will be easy to adjust. The front, not so much. But I'll keep at it. Still have tomorrow. Later-

Looking great guys! JT- I like that a lot. I'm getting through some of the slow phases tonight. All of the little detail painting. I've got the wheels on and I'm about to attach the interior bucket to the chassis. Pictures soon. Later-

Those look great Scott and Sean. I will be back at the bench soon. I have company right now but after that.... Later-

Bob- What kind of fit issues? Thanks, guys, for the kind words. The paint is MM Sublime green. The photos make it much more of a bright green than it is. I'll take some.outside photos when finished to see if it looks more accurate. Later-

I sat down for a minute and polished the body. Nothing extravagant. Just getting a little smoother surface for the decals. Tonight I'll get the rest of the engine done and the rear wheels on. I'll also get the detailing of the interior done. Hey Sean, get some photos posted!! Later-
