  1. Part of NASCAR racing's excitement is from seeing three or four cars go at high speeds side by side. This is not something that works well on most road courses from the (NASCAR) fan's point of view. I watched a bit of the Elkhart race (Been there, drove on it) and it seemed these drivers were not used to a track that narrow (as most road courses are, they resemble two lane highways) and did not get the speeds seen on a super speedway. Drivers at Bathurst are acclimated to it and you can see in Waltrip's facial expressions that that is true. Love Aussie racing.
  2. Not justifying putting cheaply made parts in automobiles, but had not Ralph Nadar come up with exaggerated claims of bad handling Corvairs in the older swing axle (which was soon changed to a better design, but Nadar kept harping on it), the corporate culture may not have developed as it has regarding keeping quite about crappy unsafe bits or keeping quite about same. Also GM changed the design quite aways back on the ignition switch, but never changed it's part number which would be much like a company changing a print spec and not adding a new rev number alerting the production team of the change. Now GM has to eat that cost in the recall by having to change perfectly good ignition switches because they do not know which are bad and which are good. My 2010 GM car may have a perfectly fine part, but you would never know unless one took apart the switch to see inside...so I get a new switch for my trucklet whether it needs it or not.
  3. I got it. Thanks for not bidding me up guys. LOL Just under 29 bux.
  4. So, in your opinion, what would be an "American Sports Car" be like...or what would it have that the Corvettes do not? That seems to be an ethereal thing. American Sports cars ran the gamut from Mercer Raceabouts and Stutz Bearcats to Kaiser Darrins to 55,56,57 T-Birds to Muntz Jets to AMC AMXs. Might even consider an Excalibur a sports car if bought in the two seater configuration. How about a Studebaker Avanti?
  5. Cruising rummage sales yesterday and I came across a Paasche VL airbrush set for $10. It followed me home. Now I have to actually learn to use it. It's a nice double action set with all the accessories; hoses, jars, and other parts. No idea what they cost new, but he wanted $15 for it and I offered the $10. Beets the Aztec set I got burned on that I paid $50 for that was useless.
  6. Since I solder small circuitry at work all day, I'm used to having my head stuck to a mag light. I don't think I could build models with out it.
  7. All this info is pretty heady stuff. It's agreed I can use the 215, 300, 340 engines. Had a 64 with a 300 and a 69 Special with the 350. They really don't look similar. That said, are there any Rover kits with engine detail?
  8. I meant to type 340. Thanks everyone. I can deal with holes in the block with plastic and putty. It seems that the 66 Riv engine is a nail head, but the ZZR engines seem to have the same look. Because the detail on the ZZR engines are so muddy, it's hard to nail it down. Plus the exhaust ports seem equidistant from each other on the ZZR where as the 66 Riv engine (425 cid) are not. ZZR 0 0 0 0, 66 Riv 0 0 0 0. The 69 engine is obviously too new. I'm of the opinion that the engines are related to the same engine that was in my 64 LeSabre, which had a 300. The wiki sited earlier says that the 340 was a stroked version of the 300. Any kit ever have the 215, 300, or 340 small block?
  9. I am refurbing a gluebomb ZZR (the only way I could afford one) The kit engines are barely detailed blobs that vaguely resemble Buick Engines. Very few pics of the car are online. Articles I have read allude to the engines being 430s. Car was built by Barris in around 1965 0r 66. It was featured in the film "Out Of Sight", which came out in 1966. Are there any kits that might have better detailed examples of those engines? Thanks. I thought they were 300 cid engines at first.
  10. I have a minty fresh double kit of the Tognotti T and the Wild Dream I want to undertake. My XR/6 is just a couple of glue bomb parts bags I want to do.
  11. http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQdUI_Nz-w_MVIVUP3PYEkrlZgeYFO1PJCwMOjh1l9Rew9E9CmRiA:www.thetruthaboutcars.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/12-1984-Plymouth-Turismo-Picture-courtesy-of-Old-Car-Brochures.jpg This was an awesome little car. I had one and I miss it. The rust monster ate the floor pans.
  12. How can anyone not see that the trunk was open? The spare tire cover is clearly seen.
  13. I read the article in the magazine and it does not look like he was mis-representing the car. All those issues were stated in the article. Technically, it's a well maintained and albeit an "extreme measures taken" car to keep it going, At the least it's a nice article about keeping a nice old car going...no matter how many bits have been redone or replaced. A car is much more than the two part axe previously mentioned here.
  14. I just picked up the Meng F-350 Ford kit today from panther Hobbies. $54 out the door, plus about six cans of Tamiya sprays.
  15. Sheesh you guys. You'd kvetch if someone gave you $5000, but didn't give it to you in 50s instead of 100s.
  16. Where do you guys see rust on a fiberglass body?
  17. I think the racing is in Finland
  18. Thanks. I'm gonna check into this a bit more. Some kit somewhere had to have those engines. Research time. I seem to recall my 300s had aluminum heads. I had blown a head gasket on one and the shop was concerned that the escaping gasses were causing a groove to form on the head surface.
  19. I don't know, but it seems the Dodge Sprinter is not in the current line up due to it being a Mercedes Benz design. The Fiat Ducato is the base for the Promaster. A smaller version will be offered based on the Doblo and called a Promaster City. This one is about the size of a Nissan NV200 or a Ford transit Connect. It is built in Turkey. A side note...it's also sold by Vauxhall and Opel as the Combo. GM, Fiat, and Ram...what an unholy menage a trois.
  20. A couple of Eidai 70s era Datsun and Toyota Can Am style race cars. It would take skills beyond mine to correct that hideous engine.
