What makes us/you shelve a build ?
lordairgtar replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lye is a strong alkaline solution of potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide. It is used to make soap and drain and oven cleaners. Chemical formula: KOH or NaOH. Just look for these terms or Chemical formulas on the container. -
Micro Mark Tools?
lordairgtar replied to John Pol's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bought a set of those Pakastani Braces pliers dentists used to make braces back in the day. I think it was four or five tools in a pack and they work well for making constantly sized bends for hinges and stuff like that. -
What do you drive?
lordairgtar replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first motor vehicle/farm vehicle driving experience was driving a Ford 9N. i was 12. It was my grandfathers farm tractor which he bought just before WWII. Previously he had a team of horses and a cantankerous Rumley Oil Pull steel wheel tractor. I vaguely remember a steam powered tractor as well being fired up when I was very young. -

Purple Power major ingredient is basically Lye. If you can find a degreaser with that in it, try it. You can use 90% or higher rubbing alcohol, or non synthetic brake fluid. How do you guys clean anything over there/ -

Can't happen, unless it's baron Von Richtoffen's car as an elderly man. The Red Baron fought in WWI where as the Opel would be appropriate for WWII. Plus, the baron died in France in 1918. Never woukd have seen an Opel of 1936-38.

66 Nova dog dish hubcaps?
lordairgtar replied to twopaws's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
According to a listing at a hub cap store, the hub cap was unchanged from 66 to 69. So the Revell COPO Nova would have those caps. The caps in the kit do not have the fluted design shown, they are a bit plainer in the kit. -
whats exotic?
lordairgtar replied to DrewCfromSC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Exotic Car Digest describes “Exotic Car” as: “Any car that the factory built to be unique, fast or purposely built to stand out from the roads full of the ordinary”. Kind of a broad definition, but as anything car related, terms can be wildly debated amongst the cognoscenti. Look at what the term muscle car brings to mind. -
Here is a car version of the small truck. The Florian. http://www.isuzuownersclub.com/en/?fid=5&gal=6The truck was sold as the Isuzu P'UP (short for pick up), of course the LUV which was short for Light Utility Vehicle. Also sold as the Bedford KB in Britain and the Holden KB in Oz. It was called Faster in Asian markets. When I lived in California, I saw LUVs with Florian grilles. I think the interior of the LUV would benefit from a wood grain touch like the Florian.

Early Christmas Present I didn't ask for.
lordairgtar replied to Porscheman's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Want fun? Try getting an ounce of molten solder splashed on your leg. Did not hurt the jeans I was wearing, but it sure burned. I was jumping around and yelling ouchouchouchouchouchouch. How did this happen? I was using what is called a tinning pot. Kind of a bucket with a heater element around it. I was dipping the tip of some brass rods into it when I dipped a dirty one and it popped and sizzled and caused me to back up and hit the table and then the stuff flew out and nailed me on the leg. -
O come on now. Here in Milwaukee, we just drink more whiskey. Or go to sauna with our Finnish friends. They closed the schools for two days last week. They never did that when I was a kid. It had to be up to 10 inches of snow for that to happen. We are raising a nation of wusies now.

I used to live in Santa Barbara. If I can do it, so can you. I live here in the frozen tundra where people think it's nothing to go shirtless or in bikinis during a Packer game.
