The Most Embarrassing Cars To Drive
lordairgtar replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know. I think even Buick was going to put the split window in the 72 Riv, but could not get past the same issues the original had...visibility out the rear back light. -
Kits of cars that never were
lordairgtar replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I must have had an early 66 wagon. It had the old style 287 in it. I know the newer style 304s and others should up later in those cars after 67. I had a 76 Hornet with the 304...man that car was fast. -
Kits of cars that never were

Some have said there were a very small number made as convertibles. I recall a Rebel done as a ragtop at a show many years ago. I know the 1967 year only had 1700 or there abouts. -
So viper could have been the new AMX had AMC had money to do that car.

I learn something every time Harry posts. If you others can't deal with it, then don't read. My historical automotive library pretty much jibes with whatever Harry says. Everyone has opinions, so everyone needs to just chill. Someone else here had extensive knowledge of a certain make of car, but as usual, some of you got into a pissing match with him and now, I lost a great source of info because he or she won't post on it anymore.

The Most Embarrassing Cars To Drive
lordairgtar replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The HHR is not an embarrassing car. I've owned two of them. One 2007 in Imperial Blue and the current Victory Red 2010. Both were panel versions. I'm sad that Chevy discontinued them. I would be buying my third now. They could have redesigned the front to better reflect current corporate looks and gotten a few more years out of a decent vehicle. Hey Harry, could you photoshop a current Chevy look to the front of one of these? -
How often do you visit Hobby Lobby?
lordairgtar replied to dantewallace's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There isn't one close to me and we have a few really good LHSs here in the Milwaukee Metro area. If one was nearby, I might go...and I really do not care about their political agenda. If they have something I want when near one, I will buy it. -
Most Swoopy car to you ?
lordairgtar replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTz1zzzsQ0RZD9WT3riyaiHatS3q20OQ-Cl5BCAekyXt8_fFaiG Every day cars are sometimes swoopy. My grandfather had one of these when new and I just loved it. It prompted me later to buy one of these. https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ-VZwXDPib0nDB2-zvsqF6CHypYgduCXzCGFuL8etCNsPQ9w_5ww -

http://www.hubgarage.com/original.html?src=http://hubgarage.s3.amazonaws.com/photos/41309/D83K1499A.jpg This is a car built by Troy Trepanier for a friend of mine. Notice how the car has perfect lines. Just some subtle changes here and there. That said, not everyone is a Troy or Chip or Boyd. I like the yellow car. -
Automotive Car Books? Who Collects?
lordairgtar replied to mrknowetall's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since before I ever got a computer. I found that magazines only held a small part of automotive knowledge. So I started buying books at yard sales, libraries, Half Price Book et al. Most are stored in the garage and some in the bedroom. Had to make an emergency move a few years ago and I almost threw them out. A girl helping me move said I should make room for them somehow. That is how they wound up in the garage. Glad I listened to the girl...thanks Ashley! -
The Opel could also serve as a Moskvitch as the Russians took the factory bits and relocated production in Russia. It's an opportunity for some photo etcher to provide the different trim stuff.

Model car signed by.......
lordairgtar replied to slammedi'am's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A friend of mine here is the only guy I know that can get George Barris to sign his unopened Barris model car kits for no cost. Mr. Barris often charges people for that . -
1/5 Scale Toyota museum. Toyota 75
lordairgtar replied to freshawk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
These are all scratch built. You really can't compare these to a mass produced kit any one can buy. -
Jo-Han chromed parts
lordairgtar replied to realgone58's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've seen this. JoHan was good at this. I have a 74 Hornet hatchback promo as well and the wheels in front are red under the chrome and the rear wheels are green. The body is white. -
I don't know what my thing is with Russian planes, but I picked up an Ilyushin IL26 fighter bomber for 5 bux. This is an MPC kit, but moulded by Airfix.

Ever had a "new" idea "stolen"?
lordairgtar replied to Shelby 427 1965's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mustabaker!!! -
A 71 Charger was near and dear to me when I was about twenty. Not my car, but I thought it was the sleekest thing. A friend owned it. The one I did own, and wish I could find another was the 84 Charger Turismo with the four headlight front grille. The car was a stormer in autocross. It was the second front wheel drive car I ever owned, the first was a 73 Eldorado convertible. Worlds apart. BTW, my Mom had the identical Plymouth Duster Turismo.

Mechanical mistakes when building
lordairgtar replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jantrix, that is pretty much an aftermarket engine you are showing. Custom bits to direct the wires around the head in a neat manner is awesome, but it still is not the way it was done on the assembly line. Owned many a Chevrolet and they all had wires going over the valve cover...except for the inline six...LOL
