  1. I'd really like to be in a club, but being way out in the boonies really limits choices to zero.
  2. Just beautiful .. and with all the roof chrome as it should be!
  3. I sure DID! The wood has been distressed considerably. This is what I'm building ... I appreciate all the answers and will consider all in my planning.
  4. For real tiny screws, I agree, a bit in a pin vise should be adequate. But not for metal hinges. For sure not in metal!
  5. I'm about to start paint on a '49 Merc Woody and am wondering which I should mask off and paint first ... the body or the wood. The body is going to be flat black and the wood I'm doing by brush with oit paints. The base may be spray painted. Both steps will require masking of the other areas. I'm assuming the flat black will be difficult to cover with the light tan base for the wood, so masking off of the wood areas is necessary. This is my first woody so I'll appreciate all comments and opinions about how you did yours.
  6. I use just a regular drill bit when a countersink is needed ... it's a rare occasion for me though.
  7. I guess many judge by some preconceived notion of what YOUR build should look like ... I live for what OTHERS can do and revel in the differences between us all. I LIKE the way your wood looks .. it just POPS out and grabs you.
  8. That's one mess of switches there! Really good looking build!
  9. Ira-nitius is catching ... looks like an alien Unibottle
  10. I got a dehydrator finally ..been looking and reading about them for a long time and figured it was time. It has been in almost constant use since arriving ... drying paint and warming the cans. Thanks to all here who guided me towards this unit .. I'm very happy with it! I also got an Arbor Press from Micro Mark, but to use as a pin vice holder for perfectly vertical holes. I'm happy with it but haven't used it for the circular hole pattern on some wheels I need it for. Have to rig up an index to evenly space the holes.
  11. That steering wheel is pretty incredible, Steve! I still have a had time believing it's stretched sprue ..
  12. Aww ... my daughter's '85 Van is way too small for this thread ... but that blue Astro I really like!
  13. This is a technique I've tried and failed at many times. It just requires too much control for the minimal results. Plastic rod is available down to at least .02" and I would rarely need anything smaller, so I don't get why anyone would go through this for something that has a constant taper to it and is readily available .. unless the taper is needed. I am amazed at some results from people who have mastered this.
  14. Probably a photo of what you're looking for would help narrow down the answers.
  15. Do not be embarrassed ... the Violati family is for real and they own the one missing 250 GTO. Just Ricardo is a figment of my imagination .. ehhe. Here's a link to this Ferarri with the Violati's mentioned
  16. This is the first I've even heard of this brand of paint. Can anyone expand on this?
  17. I can only answer your question limited as I don't have the other colors to compare, but I love TS-94 Metallic Grey and I use it often for metallic parts as an alternate to Metalizers. I wouldn't hesitate to get this paint as it has become one of my staple colors. It is lighter than any gunmetals I have any is a medium grey.
  18. I just tuned into this .. beautiful bodywork on that stretch!
  19. It's deceiving how much work something like this can be .. and yours is looking good! I saved the photo with the aluminum air box as reference for the door of my Cannonball Run Ferrari ..
  20. A few update pics on the Ferrari 250 GTO. More photos are on my build thread
  21. The engine, chassis and interior are done except for a little paint touch ups noticed in these photos. The body needed some rust, but being aluminum I decided to try some corrosion on an unpainted door. It's not perfect but I think it will do. I used flat aluminum first on the door them some steel dabbed around. Some very light grey in lower corroded areas with some actual dirt dropped on the wet pain. Finally some flat white dry brushed on the grey. What does everyone think of the look?
  22. Welcome Robert and it's good to see some young blood adding to the forum. Don't be afraid to show us what ya got, we have all levels of builders here and we all like to show our work.
  23. Thanks for relating your experience with using a dehydrator to heat spray cans, Pete! If you've been doing it for15 years it's a pretty safe bet it works.
