  1. That sure does pop in the sun! Very good looking build!
  2. I like the way that truck is moving!
  3. I wish this thread was going when I built my daughter's '85 GMC Van with the windows. I heard hints that one version did have the window engraved on the inside to cut out, but never realized they were completely separate pieces! I ended making the windows myself from an A-Team Van. You can see on the pic below that the A-Team Van did have the roof ribs.
  4. I never realized there were so many of these imported here though I have seen some older ones that seem to be working on the road. I should have guessed you would have built one of these, Tom. And, yes .. same and only daughter ... hippie gone business ... but one she loves and is good at. The van stayed together long enough (after it fell apart on the trip back from NNL east) to give her, though I hated to not be able to gaze at it here. There are 11x9 prints of it on the garage wall .. P.S. the Reliant K-Car is her first car .. a gift from my aunt, who also gave me MY first car ... a 1951 Plymouth. ... how am I going to finish the k-car with this new Subie on the table??????
  5. I just have some dogs I could find and neither of yours. I don't remember seeing either at my daughter's but there's always different ones. Either one of them would pack that Subie!
  6. Anything with "bunny" in the name shouldn't look THAT good! Outstanding job .. especially that paint!
  7. I pretty rare VW, especially in model form. Came out looking great!
  8. I got some wood posts and slats that I'll make an enclosure from. Hopefully that's proper to keep the dogs in. I haven't shown this to my daughter yet, so I hope I get approval on that! I have to glue some angle brackets to the bed to receive the posts and my daughter's in Alaska so it'll have to do. I also have a pack of G scale dogs to populate the bed. I should note that there are NO kennels or cages at my daughter's place ... the dogs just hang out with each other, up to 25 at a time including overnight. I'm convinced that's why people like it so much. One note since posting, the triangular piece at the front of the bed dropped off on one side and the carpet monster got it. I made one from some .03" stock and it's glued in place now ... whew ... wasn't bad making it.
  9. I use Photoshop to make decals, but there are many graphics programs for a lot less that can do it. The car images I used are scans of the instruction sheet that I scaled in Photoshop so they print at the actual model size. Then I just brought the photos into a layer and scaled them to fit. It was pretty simple and wouldn't take much to learn how to do it in any program.
  10. Here's tiny for ya ... A same scale VW Bug sitting next to it. They are the same length and width. The bed sides needed good 90 degree holders when gluing to insure things were square. The bed and body have all pieces added for painting ... bed has 16 parts (!) and body consists of 5. And the frame just popped onto the tiny pins perfectly! This is a VERY well done kit! I got the Subaru paint to match my daughter's Outback so it's off the the paint shop for some primer. I've been spending considerable prepping and painting the chassis parts and trying to use as many different blacks as I can to get some differentiation to all these parts.
  11. I've used the welds but can't tell you which ones as I used a sample sheet with many sizes. But, Archer has a new thing on their page where you can print out their decals in actual size on your printer. This goes a long way is figuring out which is correct for your use.
  12. That looks really good! ... but I hate those things. Every time I told a customer to get a bucket so I could inspect their trusses they would come up with one of those. It's up and down for a short section then move. With a bucket I can do almost the whole thing with one lift. ... and, i don't like heights! Scissor lifts just don't feel safe but I will go anywhere in a bucket, despite how much they jiggle ... go figure.
  13. Nice start. I can't say where you could find a good VW engine for cheap, but the new Revell Beetles or the old Fujimi 356 kits have great engines.
  14. Some wonderful working trucks here. Mine still has some life in it yet ...
  15. Now, that's some torque! Chews engine blocks like a handful of black jellybeans.
  16. My daughter has a dog daycare business called Love Us and Leave Us that has not a cage on the property. All the dogs hang out together and have the run of the place, inside and out. If they're lucky, they get to go on a walk in the Berkshire Hills with 10 other dogs. The owners LOVE her place because the dogs come back tired and happy. They literately BEG to return the next day, according to the owners. Her Subaru Outback was covered in vinyl by a friend that has a Dr. Vinyl business here in Pittsfield, MA. I took his graphics and adjusted them for a Subaru Sambar Pickup. The Subaru Sambar kit by Aoshima is an incredibly detailed little pickup. It was reviewed here at this link. After seeing just the number of parts in the chassis ... 46 not counting the wheels and tires ... I had to see one so got one in the mail from Japan. I was even more amazed at the detail level when the kit arrived. I just started gluing the cab ... 11 pieces! ... but got the decals all worked to represent a dog transport for walks. It's going to be pretty much stock with some wood fencing around the bed to keep the dogs contained. I have some Subaru Willow Green Opal Mica on the way to match my daughter's Outback. Here's a shot with the cab and frame against a '55 Cameo to show how small it is. Remember, this is a 1/24 kit too!
  17. Fantastic bodywork! a great looking custom
  18. Unfortunately, MassCar didn't make the schedule this year. It's 20 degrees and snowing like crazy right now ... it's supposed to be SPRING for MassCar!!!
  19. My wife says she does "Art", but I've never seen anything she's done .. in 40 years! She's ramping up lately and has taken over a whole room for "Art" and packages of "Art" material come every day. She bought a really nice (and expensive) worktable but it's covered with "Art" materials and I haven't seen it since it arrived. She's retiring soon, so maybe I'll finally learn what kind of "Art" she does. As far as I'm concerned, her hobby is her widescreen TV. She wants a new TV for her "Art" Room because she can't see the TV while she's doing her "Art".
  20. Nice color .. and I always thought these were cool cars. I have one waiting for me to finish that I was making into a beach buggy ..
  21. Hi Charlie! Well, I did get some photos and I should just put this together since you mention it! ehehhe There might be some decal work to do from the photos my daughter gave me. I can't make it look completely as it did when she sold it ... she gave all her friends sharpies and every square inch .. inside and out ... was written on! Why there are no photos of it in that shape I don't know. I'll give her an ultra fine point Sharpie with it and get the bumper stickers with decals and the hand painted "Italian Flag" by hand. Since I just did decals for another build it shouldn't take much to put this one to rest.
  22. This looks fantastic for a first build! Those molded in exhausts are a real pain ... you can mask them tape, but I usually do just paint them by hand as you did. I just run a line about a deep as the pipe od and not try to paint to the bottom. This does avoid the bottom crease against the underside and looks a bit more true to the size. Of course painting a straight line like that is not simple, but you seem to have a good steady hand with the brush. I was Artillery also, Pershing Missile in 67-68 in Germany.
  23. The cheapest car made by a particular manufacture stuffed with the largest engine they make. Some paint fluff, but no suspension modifications allowed.
  24. I've had the same experience, which is silly! Seems tough do be doing something wrong with this ..
