Been sanding the glue area with something like 150 grit and used J-B Weld epoxy in the end for glue. -
85 GMC Van 8/9/17 Fixed for Fotki
Foxer replied to Foxer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Not strip, but I started with aluminum tubes. All the trouble has been with glue sticking. Maybe using strip and wrapping the pins would have worked .. might have ended with a better glue surface and less of them! -
I stuck the track nose on a whim yesterday and was still debating cause I like the '32 grill, but you guys have sealed it ... will start making it fit! Thanks for the comments. Lots of body work to fit the grill, trim out the hood and mold the rear fenders in. Headlights have me really wondering what to do.

this looks great! I love that motor!

Tamiya Nissan GTR ..... something different for me
Foxer replied to mademan's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The open door kit is interesting ... never even heard of one of those before. -
This is based on AMT's first '32 Ford kit and the first '32 kit I ever built back in the early '60's when it was first released. I've wanted to do a radically sectioned and channeled '32 for some time and got started a few years ago. With my daughter's van nearing completion and Christian Pamp's AMT 32 Ford community build rearing it's head my interest got recycled. I can't post this in Christian's thread because it uses a Revell frame and maybe some other pieces. I posted a thread 3 over years ago asking weather to chop it or not and got many opinions that helped me decide where it was going. The top is staying unchopped but I did change the grill to an aerodynamic one I had from something else. I've thought had on the tires and I'm leaving the Prowler big and littles .. I like the rake it has. The body was glued to the fenders today and the hood sanding completed. It looks like the bottom of the front shroud needs to be raised, although the front wheels are just slipped in place and the front will go up a little when they are centered on the axle. I tested many engines and those that had a low enough induction to fit under the hood were too wide. I settled on a Ford SHO from a Taurus kit that donated it's front for another build .. my Dad's '92 Crown Victoria. I always liked the look of the first SHO engines and some engineering to turn it 90 degrees and fit should make it right for this build. It's not a period correct rod, just something correct for THIS period I'm building it in. The fenders have widened 3" each and these photos shows it before primer to see the added strip. It was added slowly, alighn, hold tight with fingers and glue about a half inch at a time with liquid plastic cement.

That's a great idea! One of the best looking pickups I've seen. Your subtle weathering looks just right.

The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!

It's probably only what a Hudson really deserves, Chuck. I'll stand beside ya when others get fired up and in a rage. -
Project: "Inferno" 49 Merc - *Update p17* 3/13/15
Foxer replied to JasonFL's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I like everything you've done so far .. nice bodywork! The trunk line and hood change are subtle but oh so good! The flames will be spectacular! Do show by step how you create them. The exhaust is a great idea ... I think it could spread a bit .. just enough for that license plate. This SHOULD be driving on the street!! -
Kris's are really nice. I also like Replicas and Miniatures that have nice rounded side detail. They don't have great photos of their products so I took some quick shots .. Kris Morgan distributor note material to make wire boots also included, Replicas and Miniatures distributor and also a separate vacume advance they have available

Weathering - feedback please
Foxer replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Your rust color looks good . lots of variation in color which is the tough part. The blue paint seems too thick to me. I'm wonder if some polishing of the blue to even it out a bit would help. Not to a shiny finish, of course, but to scale it down to more of a 1/25th roughness. Using gloss, semi-gloss and dull coat selectively afterward should make the paint look right. The sanding will enhance, rather than ruin, any rusted areas you might encroach on next to the blue. You really do have the base down well. I do rusting in many layers, just like nature, until it looks right. Sometimes things I'm done get covered or even removed in the process. I'd never start this over, in any case. It will all enhance the final look! -
is my 1/16 math right
Foxer replied to dabelltoller's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Your math is correct. Those trucks are HUGE in real life too! -

This build has been going on for two years next month! I have to thank everyone here that has encouraged and helped me .. especially those that have graciously sent me missing parts! Specifically, there's Ryan Silva who sent me his first castings of his spectacular 8-lug wheels! Nick Winter sent a GMC dash with the correct GMC mirrors and I used that to form the correct left hand side of the dash. Someone also sent me the front amber side marker lights but I can't locate the original post in Wanted to give credit. This just goes to show how much everyone here HELPS each other in need! It's looking like my next photos on it are going to be UNDER GLASS!! There's just the windows and doing final assembly on the body .. mirrors, antenna and bumpers. Of course, there's the broken off door hinges but they are not being touched till last! See everyone UNDER GLASS!!! -
'32 Ford roadster gluebomb rework. April 26: back on track
Foxer replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You're doing a well a job documenting this build as you are on the plastic! I'm enjoying every word and every drop of weld .. umm ... glue. -
I like the look of that!

My bad .. read too fast. Anyway, this could be a good excuse to get this one rolling again. And I'm about to finish my 2nd one this year very soon ... 2nd one in 15 years actually!

What do you do while waiting for a kit to arrive?
Foxer replied to Jdurg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do work on one of the other 20 I have on the workbench. It's good you have one coming you really want to work on. What you're actually doing, research on what you plan to do for the build, is something I'd be doing anyway ... it's one the fun parts I have in a build. Enjoy planning it out and before you know it .. ! -
The AMT 32's are like old friends to me ... they are the first hot rods I built when they were first released. I have one that's been on the bench, but I hear you about starting fresh. I know I'm too slow these days only building when I get the urge. I WILL be watching closely to be sure. So, just to get some juices flowing, here's something that won't be in this build ... but will in spirit ...
