  1. Since everyone is giving pin material, I use about every type of round material on my bench. Copper wire, plastic, aluminum and brass rod, sewing pins and anything else that seems right for the particular part. The diameters vary by part also.
  2. This is gorgeous! The details you added look just right. What really gets me is how clean all the black in your photos looks! .. that in itself is not east to do . The filnal build should be clean enough to eat off of . .
  3. I'm going to like following this one. Very nice work so far. The colors on the engine are perfect! I'm curious if you're planning on doing the chrome wind deflectors above the drive side windows. I have a build that needs them and haven't decided how I'll do it yet.
  4. Been there, done that. When you just don't feel like it it's ok to put it aside. The best thing is you can come back any time you feel like it. I was away for almost 30 years and the only thing I wished for was that I had kept all my builds and works in progress.
  5. You're the only one that really counts, Chuck!
  6. Amazing how you've done these! The paint and chrome does as much at your building skill to make these look like none others I've seen!
  7. I'm lucky in a way .. I don't have that many completed I have to shelve! Down in my shop though I have five 5 shelf racks with all the ones I'm working on. I just have one shelf here that goes around my computer area so I can marvel at myself!
  8. Just the word Studebaker is unusual enough! That body looks pretty cool.
  9. That's pretty cool. I'd suggest looking at model train layouts even if they are smaller scale. You get plenty of ideas ans see many of the materials that are available for scenery and buildings. Don't forget one of those tables jutting out into the room for a peninsula!
  10. as everyone says .. fantastic paint job!
  11. It's been little pieces that have been keeping me busy .. a milk crate and the steering wheel mostly. The crate was made from styrene shapes and brass mesh. It's far from perfect but will do deep inside the van. The steering wheel I found I had to make from scratch to get the right shape. I just used the outer rim from another wheel. I needed a GMC logo for the back doors and made a cast of the grill logo to use. My resin is way too old and it came out pretty bad. I made a number of casts using sprue melted in Ambroid cement and the two shown in Alclad are the best ones. It's stopping here after I use a red sharpie on them. Here's why I left off half the engine accessories .. especially on top. The radiator goes tight against this making it even less visible.
  12. I do lots of things other than work on a build but none do I consider slowing me down as I'm in no rush to complete any of them. I work on them when I feel like it for pure enjoyment. When something like BMF, lost part, or need to figure out how to do something comes up I just leave it for awhile and come back when I feel like it. I'm building only for myself so I'm the only one I have to please ,,, it's just a hobby.
  13. Very nice!
  14. The stairs Deathgoblin just may be the best choice .. something in HO scale or smaller if you can find. I'd try Plastistrut where I believe I got them. The slots and fins will be larger than on the 1:1 but the effect would work. Here's a link to the Plastistrut ones to see what they look like ... Stairways And here's a link to a thread here where someone shows how they were used .
  15. Do you have a photo of the 1:1 vents you're trying to replicate?
  16. When it's applied in a thin layer it doesn't take hours to dry. Maybe a few minutes longer than two-part but you're not having to mess with the mixing. As I've said before, the right tool for the right job. Filling a scratch doesn't need two-part putty. I DO use two-part all the time for the big and thick jobs ... right tool, right job
  17. Well done tutorial. I'm a pin addict myself ... anything I put together does so with a pin.
  18. Looks like you'll be searching for more than you soul on that bench! (actually, it looks similar to mine)
  19. at a loss for words ... good thing I only speak Russian.
  20. Another spectacular junker! That front fender really looks good .. or bad, should I say.
  21. I went down the list and got 21 actually being worked on. I usually am only active one one at a time, sometimes two. Usually it's something that didn't work and needs research on or I just need to put aside something to calm down that shifts me to another one.
  22. I used the same bead cones as VW dave shows from Michaels thou a different brand I believe. They are thin metal with a seam down one side. These were attached to a pipe elbow at the ends, Plastistrut I believe.
  23. Welcome, Richard. Will be looking forward to seeing your build.
  24. Very well put together. I'd expect to see (hear) that rumbling down the street!
  25. I got a long time trying detail done this Saturday ... the grill for my wife's '95 Subaru Legacy! This was the 3rd attempt and it looks right. Had to glue three .01" bars and two .15" spacers of immensely small size together. Just some cleanup and Alclad on the grill surround. The long bar is the 2nd attempt that expanded as I sanded the back down .. fail. I took Sunday off after this!! Also in the pic is casting of GMC logo for my daughter's van.
