  1. Yes, yes! Gonna be interesting, Pretty cool how the 1/24 fenders work!
  2. It's a Giottos Rocket Air Blaster. I got it originally to clean dust out of my SLR camera .. it's intended purpose. It shoots a pretty powerful stream of air and is much better at dusting than the small camera brush I have. The brush is still useful for dusting cars but the Rocket blasts dust to the stratosphere! Was one at Amazon but may be other cheaper places. This shows exactly what it is anyway.
  3. I've never thought about the 1/25 version when buying a car, but almost all the cars I want to build I've owned in 1:1. Maybe that's because I HAVE to want the 1:1 car before I buy. I think only the 145 Volvo and 08 Infiniti G37 Coupe haven't been kitted close enough to build ... the rest are in some stage down in the workshop.
  4. I measured some Evergreen 1/4" channel and the inside flat is .187". That's a hair less than 3/16" but might fit tightly or with a little sanding. I'm not sure how close Plastruct channel is to this but shouldn't be too far off. The only sizes made by Plastruct and Evergreen that would fit inside a 1/4" channel are 3/16 and 1/8 so 3/16 is most likely your only choice, unless the 1'8 fits your application. Sanding one side on a flat surface or even just a corner to get it to fit flat inside the channel is probably all you have to do to make 3'16" fit.
  5. I'm a happy camper tonight! I did my first Alclad chrome paint on the bumpers, hubcaps and mirrors and it came out fantastic! I've been paranoid of Alclad but with all the help here (on MCM forum) I had it down and was simple as pie to apply. The front bumper was a bit dull (the black paint) but it looks just right for this beat up van. It still needs the body color separation and black wash. The mirrors and rear bumper exceeded my expectations. The hubcaps need decals so will be in a later post. I also did the front grill for my Infinity build which I also love! The Infiniti doesn't belong here but I'm just too up not to post it!!!!
  6. That's interesting .. a 944 engine for casting (phone dial wheels too) I've been going thru these kits making the 3 944's I had, but only the '92 from this same kit. I cast the engine, well, bit larger one from the 968 kit, to use in the '92 .. it did have the 3.0 liter in it. This was my first casting job and was fun, despite the million bubbles I got! Will be interesting to see what you do

    Testing....

I say real, .. and nice paintjob!
  8. Can't argue with any of this. Here's what resides in my workshop ...
  9. I like it better than the original!
  10. I love cars that let you know they don't sit in the garage all day. Great job, Chuck!
  11. Nice looking VW. Just to add about the Gunze kit, it's a very good representation of an old bug and a very good kit. No engine but an OVAL window! I turned mine into the '53 I had in Germany.
  12. Very interesting. Looking forward to this.
  13. Many need to come out of the dark ages. Categorizing everything accomplishes nothing except giving something to make a liar out of you. Cars are probably the most dangerous of all subjects, be it country of "origin" or just make. Better to just buy something you like, fits your need or that handles like a dream. Even the makes at the bottom of quality surveys are MUCH better than anything from the past. They all can even take corners!
  14. With my love of your metal techniques I'm gonna be itching to see that paint job!
  15. There's nothing more fun than building a 1:1 you own ... in my book anyway. You're doing justice to all those little things that are different from the kit ... looking great!
  16. This is beautiful and makes me want to get a ticket to fly down to the Caribbean! It just looks right on target!.
  17. I know I was 12 in 1958 when AMT came out with their first kits and hooked me good, but I had a room full of planes, ships and armor by that time. It must have been 4 yearsat that time si 8 seems like the answer to this question. After AMT I never built another non-car subject to this day!
  18. Anyone that completes the BMF on that one gets my praise! I like the look here .. nice job.
  19. I finally looked in on this ... NO monkey business here! I like the idea of doing a custom custom, but you've taken it to a whole new level ... now I'm hooked .. and I like how it looks!
  20. Nothing can take away from clean building .. and these look crystal clear! Very nice.
  21. My LHS is a small one owner shop that does a good job keeping supplies stocked for such a small store and I always pay the price when buying there. It's the only place within an hour's drive I can get anything and I want to help what I can to keep him in business. .
  22. AHHH . that's your daughter! I know I commented on that post ... amazing firs build she did! My daughter had no interest in building models, but she does work on her 1:1's.
  23. Thanks Mike. I just read your profile intro about your "motorhead" daughter ... That's exactly why I had to get back to this rendering of my daughter's van ... what a motorhead! She hasn't let up on me since I took a break. I though I was safe since she just turned her dog sitting business full tilt with building and all ,,, but even with 14 hour days she hasn't let up. You KNOW you'll have to treat us to your daughter's work if she does start building!
