how do you make radiator hose clamps?
Foxer replied to bigmikevee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
On most of mine I've used the BMF wrap and dulled it with some clear flat. A few I've used plowboy's wire method for that type of clamp and I really like it. I have some Model Car Garage Vintage Hose Straps that I really like the look of when I'm getting detail crazy. You can wrap then and leave the end long. Add a piece of sliver wire or a painted plastic rod at the juncture for the screw tightener if you're REALLY crazy! Those are shown below. -
You're starting another one .. already? .. where's my basement ... I KNOW I can finish something. This should be interesting.

69 Daytona Pro Mod 1/16th scale updated 4/3/12 ..It's a wrap!

Been awhile since I commented on this and have to give a and thanks for the great show! -
These Johnny Lightning diecasts are pretty nice detail wise for the price and are interesting subjects, but I wondered about the scale too. I'm thinking they are those infamous "scaled to the box" scale. The Stude has a 123" wheelbase in 1/24. Considering the 1:1 '51 Commander had a 115" wheelbase, the model scales out to about 1/22.

wheres tips and tricks!?>! I need one one lol
Foxer replied to n8dogginz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I do the same ... a Sharpie to be specific. They come in a number of tip sizes and shapes and the tip can also be cut easily if you need a different one. -
Looking fantastic! I can't love that engine compartment more!

Really nice looking work here, Andy. And don't worry about "slowest builder known to man" ... that's my job! Haven't completed a build for 3 years but I've been working on them all that time. If I finish one, I can't work on it anymore!

We're having a heat wave...

For those that don't know, it's Summer. -
More sanding, filling and filing fitting the edges of the interior. although, after cutting the top cover down I don't know why I'm spending time fitting the edges under it!

1972 Pontiac GTO to LeMans conversion?
Foxer replied to Drake69's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
To my uneducated eyes it looks, and since everyone thinks none exists, that a slight modification is needed. Slice out the sides of the hood scoop and lower is back down where it started. Putty and sand. I do see other things in the front that need work but the hood seems pretty doable. I sympathize with you as I have to convert a '67 GTO into the '67 LeMans that I owned. Be sure to post your progress and I hope the hood is as easy a job as it outwardly seems. -
Why Do We Build Models???
Foxer replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got my modeling start with a 3 ship kit I received for Christmas when I was about eight around 1954. There was a freighter, an ocean liner and a tugboat as I remember. There were no models in the house at the time ... no one build them (well, my grandfather built wooden sailing ships from scratch). I built the ocean liner with my Dad as he painted and put the tanker together. I was amazed how well he could paint and mine was a far cry from his build. I really liked it and build many planes and armor kits but never purchased the Revell kits with their multi-piece bodies ... maybe I never saw one. I was always a car lover and could name every car on the road at 8. When AMT released their first 3in1 kits in 1958, I WAS HOOKED! I spent hours just looking over the body from different angles and ogling all the engine and interior parts! (... I still do that to this day! ) I just loved having models of actual cars I saw on the road and in all the custom cars mags. It only took a couple builds before I started customizing and chopping up every kit. To this day a can't do a build without changing or adding detail ... and It still keeps me from finishing a lot. But, I realize now, what I love is the building and finishing really doesn't matter ... though I would like to complete at least some. -
Welcome to the forum. I like the look of your builds.

this sure is putting me to the test ...... !!

Those are some hot wheels!

I tried another Walmart that's 20 minutes north .. and smaller than the closer one .. and they had 2 light blue Studes. Just have to look around. This was only $15 .. it was $19 plus $10 shipping online!

Welcome to the forum. It looks like you're getting an extra "http://" in your link. Try editing one out. Not sure how it's getting there. On Photobucket you just put the cursor over the drop down list on the IMG code link.. click on it to copy. Then just paste (ctrl V) here. edit: I tried just copy/pasting your link and editing it here. It said I'm not allowed to use that here. I'm not sure the problem ... could be your Photobucket permissions but never seen that to happen by default.

Make your own parts . . .
Foxer replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That 3d iphone app is pretty interesting, Doug! It may not work for a full size car, but it predicts things to come. I've wanted a 3D full body scanner for 30 years. -
1/24th scale jersey barriers
Foxer replied to ra7c7er's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I'm sure you've seen them George ... they MUST have been imported to Detroit! Those temporary (permanent in NJ) highway barriers .. concrete 3' high with triangular base ... each one is about the length of Jimmy Hoffa. -

Creating the 3D mesh that these printers would use to "just print a body" is not for the casual user. The 3D programs themselves are upwards of $3000 though there are some cheaper alternates than the usual. I've used 3D Studio Max since 1992 and have collected car meshes since the start. I've modified them but I never had the time to really learn how to make a full mesh. There are many car meshes available and expect to pay at least $100 for them. They all probably would need some adjustment to interact with the printer. That makes resin still considerable cheaper not even considering the hardware/software costs. Still, I LOVE the idea of just printing out a Bugatti Atlantic to sacrifice as a rat rod build!
