The nitro here is sucking my breath away! This is a time machine of immense skill and variety! I haven't finished a drag car since the first issue of the Double Dragster but I HAVE been trying! It only needs some plumbing and small items. .. one day.

Welcome back to the bench! Nothing like a good body to get the blood worked up. -
I like the rusting on the Chevy ,, nice and subtle. I'd have to classify it a abandoned, but a survivor!

Foxer replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I don't know why, but I always get sad when I see a brass frame get painted ... but it's been awhile and I'm enjoying seeing the frame in later photos AND the rest of the eye candy of this build! -
I rarely make any judgement call on anyone's build, but wheel 2 just seems right.

I'm out of breath! -
This is simple and not a real modeling tip, but the latest issue #160 got me using the database for the first time. The GSL article has some database links on some photos which read like modelcarsmag.com/0512. To make it easy, just go to the forum with your normal link then just edit the link to delete all after www.modelcarsmag.com and add the /0512 and hit enter. I know many will say this is almost common sense, but many here aren't all that computer savvy.

Unfortunately, Fred's is down due to illness. You can get all you need there. I'm not sure where else to get tires, but some of the dirt guys here should have another site.

Air-Trax makes a 71-73 P1800ES resin kit. It does still need a donor kit. Here's a link to a previous thread about Air-Trax. I also wish they did the wagon!

What a great looking engine! I love the view of the turbo up the hood scoop.
-
Well, I've kept track of answers since this started and put them into my probability analysis software to see what the odds are that this weeks answer will be Yes or No. Then I just guess.
-
That engine looks fabulous! I expect that huge turbo can pump a psi or two!

Weathered models, beaters, and wrecks.

I better add my favorite pickup here ... the Cameo with the PROTOTYPE STEEL fenders! BTW, the driver's door is a fiberglass replica. -

You can just say that the new tires had to be used to roll it out as the originals were missing. Some dull coat helps a lot to age tires and dirt and dust (washes maybe) can get them looking old and unused. -

hehe I guess Harry can't read either. But thanks for the comments on the rust. -

Foxer replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
oh sorry. I thought I explained that. This is the line just before the first photo: My explaining the fender rust was the point of my posting that build. Since you had used the Cameo as an example, I figured my build was the perfect choice with the reason pointed out for all to see. Sorry about the confusion .. should have explained more in first post. -

I know you wern't calling anyone out in this thread .. that's just not your style. I DID put myself on the table, though, and I'd be interested in what you see that could have been researched more. I like critics of my work and maybe it can work in this thread as example. Please feel free to dirty it up! -

I tend to agree with you, Darin, but it IS like others have said and it depends on the builder. Some don't add BMF or even paint to the trim when they build a showroom clean model. When I do a "beater" I take the same care as when I build anything else. As an example is a '55 Cameo I did with RUSTED fenders! In my explanation of the build, I gave the excuse that it was a "early prototype of the Cameo with steel rear fenders". Just about anything can be done if you make excuses! I did this with all the BMF and detail I usually do and it WAS that much better for it. -
Welcome, Dominik. I know Wuerzburg slightly as we used to drive through it on our way to a field site when I was stationed in Neckarsulm many years ago in the US Army. A beautiful country for sure. With 150 built models, you'll have to give us a treat and show some!

The excitement of driving dads car
Foxer replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm loving all these stories .. especially the car choices for all the "not a car guy" Dads! So now, I have to give tales of MY two kids that HAD a car guy for a Dad. both my Daughter (the car gal) and my son (semi car guy) learned on my '87 944 that I had for 8 years. My son never once asked to borrow it. My daughter wanted it ALL the time. Sometimes she did get it as she could drive it better than I. -
The excitement of driving dads car
Foxer replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never WANTED to drive any of my father's cars, I'm even embarrassed to say what they were! He was NOT a car guy. He had a '65 Ford Galaxy that made me nauseous on curves ... and under the speed limit at that. I learned to drive on his VW Bus ... in '64 before they became cool. Having the Stude that's that old and DRIVING it is pretty amazing. -
Looking good! Will be awesome to see ya go at a ragtop.
