  1. UNLESS the vehicle has an aftermarket (Moog, Dorman, etc.) control arm. Then you can replace just the ball joint... WITH the special Moog or Dorman ball joint made for that replacement control arm, and at about twice the cost of what a regular, non-replacement-arm ball joint would cost!
  2. I was going to say 'yes', but then I realized the one I foiled was the newer 1:25 'Street Burners' issue, which is based off the old Sofseal-decaled kit. That one wasn't too bad, but the grille/front bumper detail isn't quite as intricate on that one.
  3. Jeez... I wasn't going to buy the other mag's contest annual this year, now I just might have to.
  4. Art- I'm not seeing a pic.
  5. And there's still the matter of this one (about all I've done is glue the hood on and foil the trim)...
  6. I'll be Seth Rogan.
  7. It would be a bit smaller being 1:25- if you displayed it with your 1:24 trucks, only the most sharp-eyed of observers (or observers who are familiar with truck kits) would be able to spot the difference.
  8. I say "Not it" on donning Robin's hot pants....
  9. Wha???? Does he has to access them via the tailpipe or something?
  10. Heard that! Getting a car body to look like it has sat in an overgrown fencerow for thirty years takes just as much prep, planning, and exectution (perhaps even moreso) as a 'just buffed 'er out for the AMBR contest, mirror-gloss shine. The time and effort are just spent in other areas. And I've still seen some questionable bodywork under flat finishes too- and I'm not talking about intentional flaws either, I'm talking things like glue thumbprints and smudges.
  11. You have no idea....
  12. Since the Revell-Monogram cab is a '50, and Ford used the same cab from '48 to '52, why not try listing it as a '48 next time? Most judges at the shows I have been to didn't have any idea what they're looking at in the first place, and it would be 'technically' correct to refer to it as a '48 anyway... But anyway- I would love to see a flat or suede category. The only issue then would be, would 'rusty' or 'weathered' vehicles be included in that group as well, or would the rustbuckets get their own category? I can see someone with a flat-painted car taking offense to a rusty model beating his entry, or vice-versa.
  13. If you are using the Bondo spot putty, go with the two-part stuff- the stuff that comes with the big tube of putty and the small tube of hardener. the single-part stuff can shrink over time, and can eat into the plastic depending on how much is applied.
  14. I know the feeling. I'd have bought a few more Hornet kits if it had not been for my F-250 deciding to lunch on its radius arm bushings... and one of the mounts. Nothing too pricey to fix, but actually performing the repair itself is 'fun'.
  15. Same here- a straight pin will usually clear out any 'globs' of dried glue.
  16. Almost guaranteed to break small, delicate parts. Cut them off the runners with a thin photoetched saw, or a nice, sharp exacto blade and light-but-persistent-pressure. Maybe I just have junk sprue cutters, but I broke a couple of dainty parts on a Revell Midget kit using them, even though everybody said sprue cutters were pretty much mandatory with that kit. No issues at all with the saw or blade though.
  17. Wow! I wouldn't even have shelf space for something that size!
  18. Or cut the roof off and make a pool table. I've seen it done.
  19. Then again, that IMC kit is so wonked out, who's to say that one isn't really 1:25. I often wonder what the guys who engineered that kit were smoking during the R&D sessions.
  20. Very cool Rolls! Hope the nice officer doesn't search that trunk if he stops ya.
  21. Finshed up one more long-running (relatively) project today! See what you can accomplish when you handcuff yourself to the workbench and throw the key just out of reach? I knew I had to use a Twin H behind one of Jim Pelosi's Terraplane grilles, and now that the Moebius Hudson it out, I could do exactly that. I did this basically to dispose of some unused Hornet parts- the engine, headlamps/bezels, wheels, steering wheel, and trunklid 'Dirigible' emblem are from the Hornet kit. So are the taillamps, which were the backup lamps on the Hornet kit. The rest is modified Revell Deuce 5 window and spare parts. I call it the Fudson. Or the Terradeuce. Or something. This one is a bit compromised, but it was kind of built as a 'proof of concept'- I do plan to build a few more along similar lines to this, only better!
  22. Wide white ag tires? Gotta love it.
  23. Cool! Will the guy actually use the controller? Seems like the paint would wear off rather quickly with the excessive handling game controllers get.
