\ I tried that on an earlier build of the 'Buyer's Choice' issue of the roaster-only kit, and it works pretty well- it also opens the door to cleaing up the nasty mold seams on the backing plates. That's correct, but to me, the molded turtle deck looks kind of stumpy. I tried fitting the chopped coupe body to the stock floor/fender unit, and you'd need to either trim the floor or extend the deck. To me, it just didn't look right with the shorter, molded deck on the fender unit.

My favorite '57 Chevy model EVER. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't much care for '57s!

What's Your Achilles Heel?
Chuck Most replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm with John and Wayne (heh... John Wayne... ) when I say I also suffer from lack of patience. Under the best of circumstances I have the attention span of a four year old on a sugar buzz anyway, and it gets even worse when I'm trying to turn an idea in my head into a three-dimensional object. I'm a halfway decent builder, and for the most part, my models naturally fall into the 'halfway decent' category, but because I ten to rush things, I am constantly finding out at the end of the build that there are a host of things I could have done better on the model if I'd just taken a bit more time during the construction (and often even in the planning) stages of the project. Examples? 90% of the time I'll just blow through the chassis- you've seen a few of my models, and though most of them look alright viewed from the same angles and perspectives you'd view them in 1:1, don't flip them over! I've got dozens of models with all-flat-black or all rust brown chassis, no shocks or driveshafts, and only a rudimentary exhaust. I always wire my engines, but as far as fuel lines or throttle linkages go, they're pretty rare on my models. And my lack of patience shows up in other areas as well- somtimes the foil trim would look better if I'd taken a bit more time, or a bumper or grille would have more cleanly if I had taken more time to test fit it and perfect the way it fit against its mounting surfaces. Things like that. -
Sounds good! I'm thinking of also re-starting a stalled AMC Matador I've got laying around, in addition to the Rambler.

Thanks for clearing that up, John. Yeah, those shallow tubs with molded seats were kind of an epidemic with Jo Han kits. -
I don't have an Xbox either, but I love my PSP.

"Holy Grail" Models?
Chuck Most replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Monogram reissued the Paddy Wagon kit about six years ago- they're still pretty widely available. -
I'm strongly considerng getting one (if I can find one at a decent price)- that somewhat 'chunky' body would look pretty good as a pro-touring car.

Loving how that chassis looks.

Might be more than a little too nice to be a full-blown, honest 'rat' rod, but if you blew this up to 1:1 and showed up with it at a rat rod themed event, I seriously doubt they'd turn you down. I just plain love it!

I missed out on the X-El reissues when they were current (hey, I was still in the upper-single, lower-double digits in age!), and I'd love to see ANY of them back, interior or not. I always understood the original JoHan Promos had no interiors to begin with and later versions reissued by Mr.Spaulding had resin interior parts. Or did they have interiors originally and the tooling was later lost? -
Decal Tray - A Very Handy New Tool
Chuck Most replied to Chillyb1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never dip my decals in a bowl- I've lost a few too many in an attempt to fish them out. I usually set them on a wet cloth rag to release them from the backing. Not sure if I will buy one of these, but it does look like a very useful solution to a common problem. -
Call out to all Miget builders
Chuck Most replied to walt francis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On a serious note- what I do is attach the wheels and pins before attaching the axles- this makes it easier to seat the pins without the risk of breaking anything. It probably wouldn't hurt to file the pins down a bit shorter- on the first two kits I had, the pins seemed just a little bit too long. -

Roger- I'll see your Maverick and raise you the similar-vintage Comet. -
No deadline Niko, and stalled projects are welcome.

KNEW I forgot something! This would also bring Willys, Kaiser and Frazer into the mix... any of those last two in kit form?

Who else likes watching cartoons?
Chuck Most replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Never saw Starblazers- about the only anime I watched 'back in the day' was Bionic 6. I think TMNT was done in Japan as well, and I used to watch that quite a bit. Slightly off topic, but does anyone remember the Star Trek animated series? -

True, but on the other hand, I remember a Spongebob episode where Mr. Crabs dug up a grave to steal a hat... that's a bit beyond a Y7 rating! Oh.... anybody remember the 'Prehibernation' episode, which had a Pantera song? Awesome. -

Joe- I LOVED the '90's Batman cartoons! In hindsight it was pretty dark for a kid's cartoon, but I enjoyed it nevertheless, despite (or because) of that. -

Fine with me- I can see enough to get a few ideas. -
With the arrival of the Moebius Hudson Hornet (which is a year too old to be a true AMC product, but falls into the AMC 'heritage brand' category), and the impending reissue of AMT's Gremlin and Jo-Han's '59 Rambler, I'm wondering if there'd be any interest in an AMC community build. The rules would be pretty simple. 1. Has to be an AMC product of course, this would include AMC, Rambler, Nash, and Hudson. Not aware of any Eagle kits, but if you have a Mitsubishi Eclipse kit and want to turn it into a Talon, have at it. We would be drawing the line with Renaults, though. 2. It can be any scale or material- styrene, resin, diecast, or any combination. 3. It does not need to be a project started specifically for this build- it can be a long-abandoned project you'd just like to finally finish. I think this would be my project- its an AMT Ramblur snap kit with the hood and trunk cut open, perched on an AMT '66 Pro Street Nova chassis. Any interested parties?
