  1. Is that the old Imai kit?
  2. Engine is in, and the turbo is on, still some plumbing to be done with it, but the big stuff is in place.
  3. Threw some paint at the Nash today. It's going to look like a mostly-stock, shabby weekend cruiser, until you notice the turbo'd Inline six and the fat rear tires.
  4. Why can't someone despise a computer? You could say that a car is just as vital to living in the 'modern world' as a computer, perhaps even more so (I'd love to see you commute to work, or bring home a week's worth of groceries and a new sofa with a computer), but there is a pretty sizable chunk of the population who despises automobiles, even though many of those people own and operate motor vehicles. The car has been a pretty integral part of American life for about a century now, and there are still people who despise, even hate it. Why is someone not exactly loving 'modern technology' so farfetched?
  5. Looks like a very nice setup, Dave! Managed to blow the dust off my '53 Ford today.
  6. I've been thinking of trying something similar with a Dodge L-700 cab. Glad you beat me to it!
  7. Probably one of the nuttiest engines I've built- Pontiac OHC Inline six with an exposed timing gear, no air filter, a big, honkin' turbo off an IH diesel, and a shot of nitrous. Probably wouldn't be much as far as longevity goes, but would be a fun ride! and of course there's that oh-so-pointlessly-ornate oil filler cap!
  8. No, I just started on the '50 Nash again, but the Hornet will circle back to the front of the workbench in a day or two.
  9. I think Reliable Resins casts a coupe body, but it looks a bit different from what Darin has cooking, IIRC.
  10. It does look a bit 'flatter'. I think he sectioned it.
  11. Reminds me of the old episode of Cheers! killer combo. Like the Ram, but I'm really digging that Volare, Who'd have thought one of those would look so RIGHT built with the Pro Touring style?
  12. A few years back I bought an AMT '67 Shelby that had two sets of the same Firestone Wide Oval tires in the same pouch. soon after, I picked up a sealed '53 F-100 kit that had the chrome sprue to a '64 Impala instead of the truck's sprue. I had enough spare F-100 chrome spures to fill in the blanks, and as a bonus I got the cool Cragar blower from the Impala kit.
  13. I do what Gregg does, but I usually use a GOOD QUALITY masking tape (read, Tamiya, Sherwin Williams or equivalent) instead of foil. And if you spray, don't forget to mask the outside surface of the glass as well to avoid getting paint overspray on it. I don't know about you, but I've never had much luck removing overspray from clear parts- I'm not that good with polishing clear plastic!
  14. Yep. I dig.
  15. Yeah, Duplicolor is pretty sensitive to humidity, that's the one thing I don't really like about it. I know its true that ALL paints are vulnerable to humidity, but it seems like Duplicolor is even 'touchier' than most others when humidity comes into the equation. On the plus side, it has always sanded beautifully for me, and cures quickly. I do like the Tamiya acrylics (the stuff that comes in the small glass bottles for brush or airbrush application), and I've never had any trouble with the Taimya acrylics seeping into Duplicolor primer, though I have had a few isolated issues with the Tamiya not wanting to adhere to the Duplicolor, though I'm not sure if that's the nature of the two paints or just something I'm screwing up.
  16. The R&R is a '64, and depending on how good you are working with resin, you might want to think twice before you go with an R&R kit.
  17. It builds up really nice, and that four-carb intake is one of my favorite kit parts.
  18. Love it! And don't keep it in a closed display case or cabinet- dust will only add to the character of a build like this (in moderation, of course).
  19. I'd like to see them bring the Pacer back, and possibly the Matador and Matador Bobby Allison stock car kit. With the arrival of the Moebius Hudson Hornet, and the impending reissue of this and the JoHan '59 Rambler, its shaping up to be a good year for AMC fans.
  20. More messing with 8-bolt 3/4-1 ton truck tires. Why? I've got something like this in mind-
  21. The big one for me is the Premeire Studebaker Champ pickup.
  22. Found my powerplant... and to up the goodness, it's a glue bomb itself! It's the AMC/Jeep 4.0 inline six from a Tamiya Wrangler. It's not a fantastic engine, looks more like something from a Lego playset, and I'll definitely need to come up with another trans for it, but toss on a turbo and I've got an oddball powerplant for my oddball Nash hot rod.
  23. Ah... now THAT I have a good handle on! 1978 Washburn Falcon - free (inherited it) 1998 Harmony Sunburst 'strat'- $50 at a pawn shop Beat-up Marshall VS30 amp- got it for free because it was taking up space in a buddy's attic Even with strings, cords, picks, straps, cases and gig bags, I doubt I have $500 in music equipment. At least I have ONE of my hobbies in check!
  24. So far, this is the only Caddy I've built (besides the JoHan '77 Coupe Deville)- a hearse based on the old Ecto ambulance- And another Ecto being turned into a pickup
  25. Makes no difference when spraying Duplicolor over Duplicolor, though.
