  1. Well, not exactly. He is aware of the situation. I'm sure he'll chime in with the specifics at some point.
  2. Well, yeah, with that kind of attitude it won't.
  3. I picked one up about a month ago- went back to the shop today and he still had the other three. They're out there.
  4. The fender unit and suspension pieces look an awful lot like the ones used in the MPC (later AMT/Ertl) '29 Ford Woody/Pickup kit.
  5. Thanks for this info, Bill- I bought this kit to rob the twin-turbo 'Vair mill for a Volksrod project, and was looking for a little bit more info on how to keep the twin-turbo setup, but get it a little bit more into the realm of a "real world mechanical appearance" (if that makes any sense).
  6. Section it a little and you could have a very interesting Bonneville contender...
  7. I like it. It's kind of shaping up the way the 914 may have, had it been continued to the present day.
  8. Wow- poor choice for a first kit. But you really can't complain about the finished product!
  9. ^That's one of the reasons the X-El promos sold for such a high price (for the time). They were selling off a finite number of existing stock. I seem to remember either an editorial or an answer to a reader's letter in SAE years ago that gave a basic outline of what was going on.
  10. Very cool. Interior is kind of a bummer though- not because it looks bad (quite the opposite) but because so many of the details you added are hidden with the body in place.
  11. Fantastic job on the conversion! I have one of these I started about 10 years ago- so far all I've done is strip the paint and used some scrap strip to make the door spears. Its been kicking around in a box ever since.
  12. If it were at all possible for this kit to make a comeback, I'd be good for a dozen right now.
  13. Eventually, I plan to have at least one of every '61-'65 and '66-'69 variant. I'm hopeful that the tooling for the '69 might turn up some day and Round 2 will see fit to bring it back...
  14. Well, I have my choice for Marshall Burns' car down to two possible subjects. Once I pick one, it's all systems go.
  15. I just stumbled across this online one day, and made arrangements with the guy who found it to get it into my possession. Paid fifty bucks for it and I feel like that was a screaming deal. I do have a couple of '62's as well, but one is unfinished and the other I no longer have any pics of, so I'll exclude them for now.
  16. Probably AMT's '69 Lincoln Continental annual- this started as an untouched original kit. I still have the box, instructions, and decal sheet somewhere.
  17. Every MX-5 (Miata) has been sold in North America since the very beginning. If I recall, I think the very first MX-5 actually made it's world debut at the Chicago Auto Show. Also... if I recall... an American (Motor Trend's Bob Hall) spearheaded the project from the get-go, and the car itself was developed by Mazda's North American unit. But yeah... a lot of the really cool stuff ends up staying in the "home market".
  18. Cool! In high school a buddy of mine had an '83(?) Malibu wagon he always wanted to turn into a 2-door panel. Obviously that never happened, but that body makes me think he might have been onto something, rather than just on something.
  19. Well... since I "needed" the engine and 4x4 running gear for other projects, and most people who build one of these will lift it if they choose to modify it, I decided to go the opposite route and do this as a slammed... well... slammer. Slab chassis, blocked out interior, and just focus on the body and slap some Pegasus Phat Daddys on it.
  20. Looks awesome! I've thought about doing one of these as well, might have to come back to this thread later and copy off your test.
  21. I did manage to snag a '56 Desoto promo for ten bucks last summer. It's an original JoHan, and sometime in the past someone made up an elaborate chassis plate and brass "roll cage" thingamabob to straighten the body back out. I'm planning to use it as filler in a junkyard scene, so I can live with what warpage is still there.
  22. It's shaping up pretty nicely. Some of the most fun projects are the ones where you just say "I'm just going to wing this and let the kit tell me how it wants to be built."
  23. The irony is that now these repops command more money than the original JoHan promos because these tend not to warp themselves inside out.
