  1. I remember a first-gen Hemi in a '68 or '69 Chevelle. It was featured in the Reader's Rides section of Hot Rod many years back. As a fan of oddball engine swaps, I naturally dug it.
  2. Those are hardly the worst styling offense you can inflict upon a Mustang. Grab your barf bag and feast your eyes on some true visual carnage...
  3. I got one a few years ago (1996 reissue) for about 45 bucks, factory sealed. So don't give up hope, they are out there, and you can nab one for a reasonable price. I'm really hoping Round 2 will bring this one back.
  4. Thanks guys. Still need to throw together another one for the White, but I'm not in any big hurry.
  5. Thanks guys! Yep- weedburner exhaust, Marc- I just used the modified kit piece. I made the day cab panel from .030" styrene sheet.
  6. In before "Wonder if HL will get them so I can use the coupon"...
  7. It is lowered. I wouldn't say the frame is stretched- it's just a sleeper-cab chassis used with a day cab. The rear section of frame came from a junked KW snap kit.
  8. Since the majority of custom semi tractor models seem to be based on "traditional" styled rigs, I decided to see what I could do with an aero tractor. I had a partially-built AMT Anteater, a box full of spares, and some photos of '30's-era Kenworth trucks, so I decided to go with a kind of retro-modern theme. I didn't want a lot of brightwork or loud colors, so it's painted in Ford Cayman Green with a basic black chassis and gray wheels. I may add some skirts to the cab to minimize the gap between the rocker panels and side steps, and I might paint those side steps to match the chassis, in the future. I may also fix the hood- despite the fact that it opened wide enough to view the engine in every test fit, on the finished model it only opens about 1/4" before the hinges bind on something. So... the hood is staying closed for now. At least until I'm sure that the clear has fully cured.
  9. Not a truck, but it would make an interesting load for a lowboy. The full e-mail I received this morning... 10. Love all of them! It's especially nice to see a Payhauler painted in a color besides industrial yellow.
  11. This one sure was- easily the worst-fitting kit I've ever worked with up to this point. On the plus side, if I ever build another one I'll know exactly what to do differently and where to improve.
  12. Very cool! I'd love to see this reissued but if I recall, it was converted into a monster truck later on. Hopefully Gator will be along shortly to double-check your translation.
  13. Just "finished" this up earlier this weekend. Finished is in quote marks because I still need to add the tie-down hooks for the sides. At this point I'm undecided- use the kit-supplied parts or make ones that actually swivel. Other than that, it's a box-stock buildup of the late '80's Esci boxing of the classic old AMT kit. It's "permanent" setup will be hooked to a custom White Western Star 4800 (you may have seen that one before- http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/100224-custom-white-western-star-53-reefer/ ) with a shabby 4800 (you may also have seen that one before- http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/100112-white-western-star-4800-not-quite-supernova-but-well-into-the-white-dwarf-phase/ ) as the load. So that's how it's shown in the first few photos. But I still had to see how it would look paired up with some of the other tractors I have, so I took a few pics with those as well. Here it is as I intended it- Since that last photo was taken, I have added an old Michigan plate to the back. And the "just for fun" pics... The Road Boss will eventually end up paired with another lowboy- perhaps one of these, perhaps an aftermarket or kitbashed detachable neck unit. The Raider will eventually be pulling an end dump gravel trailer. No plan whatsoever for what the Lonestar will pull. Again, nothing in mind for the 359. Hidden Agenda will probably end up pulling an old Fruehauf van.
  14. The AMT's biggest appearance fault is the front and rear fasciae- they're just a tad wider than the body. Nothing a little sanding can't cure, just be careful to mount them nice and square and you should be fine. Just something to watch out for.
  15. Remember? I might be reviewing that SC/Rambler article you did in that other mag some time ago for ideas on detailing the Johan kit I just nabbed a few weeks ago.
  16. Authentic '70's style. Bonus points on the Star Trek-themed murals.
  17. Spark plug wires aside, that's a pretty nice effort for a fourth model. I think my fourth model was the first one I painted.
  18. I used to be in chat all the time, but after having it pulled out from under us for the umpteenth time, and gone entirely for about two years, I just plain don't feel like bothering with this time.
  19. There's a model building season? I've been building models out-of-season this whole time????
  20. Big put-off with the Aoshima kit (for me) is the grille. Just looks weird- the opening is a bit narrow and the headlights are big.
  21. Yep- Danbury Mint. I also own a 1:1 '47 (mine's a 1-1/2 ton though), so I'm also looking for another one to put under the knife.
  22. I was in the same boat back then too. Another one I missed was the Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition from 2000, the one with the trailer and Dyna Glide. Never saw that kit on the shelves when it was current and didn't know it existed until about seven years later. Did manage to nab one yesterday. But if I'd known about it back then I'd probably have ten of the things.
  23. Pretty much anything and everything by Johan. Wasn't even aware of them until I was about 12 (1994) and even back then it was a little too late. I've made amends by snapping up a few over the years since.
  24. That's not the date, it's a countdown timer for a bomb. RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But back to the matter at hand, no, I've never done a model to match the box art. It's temped me- there are times when I couldn't decide on a color and thought "well, it looks good in that color on the box, why not?". But so far I've never gone ahead with that idea.
