Very cool! I'd love to see this reissued but if I recall, it was converted into a monster truck later on. Hopefully Gator will be along shortly to double-check your translation. -
Just "finished" this up earlier this weekend. Finished is in quote marks because I still need to add the tie-down hooks for the sides. At this point I'm undecided- use the kit-supplied parts or make ones that actually swivel. Other than that, it's a box-stock buildup of the late '80's Esci boxing of the classic old AMT kit. It's "permanent" setup will be hooked to a custom White Western Star 4800 (you may have seen that one before- http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/100224-custom-white-western-star-53-reefer/ ) with a shabby 4800 (you may also have seen that one before- http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/100112-white-western-star-4800-not-quite-supernova-but-well-into-the-white-dwarf-phase/ ) as the load. So that's how it's shown in the first few photos. But I still had to see how it would look paired up with some of the other tractors I have, so I took a few pics with those as well. Here it is as I intended it- Since that last photo was taken, I have added an old Michigan plate to the back. And the "just for fun" pics... The Road Boss will eventually end up paired with another lowboy- perhaps one of these, perhaps an aftermarket or kitbashed detachable neck unit. The Raider will eventually be pulling an end dump gravel trailer. No plan whatsoever for what the Lonestar will pull. Again, nothing in mind for the 359. Hidden Agenda will probably end up pulling an old Fruehauf van.

The AMT's biggest appearance fault is the front and rear fasciae- they're just a tad wider than the body. Nothing a little sanding can't cure, just be careful to mount them nice and square and you should be fine. Just something to watch out for.

Remember? I might be reviewing that SC/Rambler article you did in that other mag some time ago for ideas on detailing the Johan kit I just nabbed a few weeks ago.

1941 Lincoln Custom Conti (ambitious 4th Build )
Chuck Most replied to The Danish sprue wrangler's topic in Model Cars
Spark plug wires aside, that's a pretty nice effort for a fourth model. I think my fourth model was the first one I painted.- 23 replies

I used to be in chat all the time, but after having it pulled out from under us for the umpteenth time, and gone entirely for about two years, I just plain don't feel like bothering with this time.

Revell vs. Aoshima Datsun 720, any reccomendations?
Chuck Most replied to oldcarfan's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Big put-off with the Aoshima kit (for me) is the grille. Just looks weird- the opening is a bit narrow and the headlights are big. -
What kits did you miss ?
Chuck Most replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was in the same boat back then too. Another one I missed was the Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition from 2000, the one with the trailer and Dyna Glide. Never saw that kit on the shelves when it was current and didn't know it existed until about seven years later. Did manage to nab one yesterday. But if I'd known about it back then I'd probably have ten of the things. -

Pretty much anything and everything by Johan. Wasn't even aware of them until I was about 12 (1994) and even back then it was a little too late. I've made amends by snapping up a few over the years since. -
That's not the date, it's a countdown timer for a bomb. RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But back to the matter at hand, no, I've never done a model to match the box art. It's temped me- there are times when I couldn't decide on a color and thought "well, it looks good in that color on the box, why not?". But so far I've never gone ahead with that idea.

Altered wheelbase...why?
Chuck Most replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This. You have to remember those guys were rocketing down the 1320 on rock-hard bias ply tires, for one thing. You needed all the help you could get. -
The only thing I don't like about it is that it's not on MY display shelf. Very nicely done, sir.

Thanks, guys. I had a blast building it, and I'm fairly happy with the result, so I'd pretty much be forced to call it a success.

Gorgeous- the suicide door Connies were as close to perfect as American luxury cars ever got. Eventually I'd like to fill in the gaps in my '61-'69 Connie collection- I JUST need a '61, '63, '64, '66, '67, and '68 and I'll be all set. That custom version on the box top kinda looks like an Edsel update. Call me weird, but I do rather like it. That being said I'm glad you went with a factory stock build style.

Very nice- for some reason the way you did the two-tone reminds me of a late '50's Mopar.

Yep- salt method, with a little brush "dabbing" here and there. Engine is from the kit with a modified intake and a parts-box blower. I don't remember where I got the pulleys-they're turned aluminum. This head was scratchbuilt, but you can get one from Morgan Automotive Detail now. Thanks guys!

Shaping up nicely! This is the first '68 AMT Galaxie I've ever seen that didn't have a severely warped body.

This is the fifteenth Moebius Hornet I've built, but it's the first mechanically stock one out of all of them. Even then, I added a few period accessories- the kit supplied visor, some wire wheels from the '54 Club Coupe, and fog and spot lights from the spares box. Yes, the antenna is thick as a brick, but at least it shows up in photos. I also added a couple of red "reflective strips" to the taillight panel after seeing something similar on a 1:1 Hornet. Paint is Testors Teal acrylic. I used a MAD prewired distributor- pity that it's mostly hidden in the engine bay.

I bought this kit Friday afternoon, and here we are with a finished model on Sunday morning. I did "cheat" a tad by using an engine I already had completed and went totally minimalist on the chassis mods, but I got the look I was going for. The (front) wheels and tires are from the '52 convertible, and yes, the plain black tires and full wheel covers from the Special kit ARE tucked under the quarter panels. The camshaft-flanked skull grille bar was something I made ten years ago, and it was just kicking around in a box waiting for the right project. I guess this ended up being the right project. Paint is Pollyscale Vermont Green.
