  1. The forming tool could be made from solid brass rod and a bench grinder. This would be a great article for a certain VERY useful model car(s) magazine. Mike
  2. While it's not an Alfa Romeo (it may also may be available), check the following link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Talbot-Lago-T26-Grand-Prix-Monoposto-/120563105049?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Race_Cars_Not_Street_Legal_&hash=item1c121efd19 If you're building the Talbot, this is the perfect reference link. Mike
  3. Greg: Had to do some modeling to remember why you "ride herd" over this group? Can you tell me the resin casters? The Willys looks to have the inner window frames in place for the window glass. Nice touch on the casters part although I couldn't make out the door frames. Thanks, Mike
  4. Now's there's an idea for a couple of projects I've got pieces to. Hmmm.....1/8 scale flathead......white wall tires...... a 32 Ford Zinger? Mike
  5. I finally got my kit for my project. It doesn't feature major modification like some. Must be from one of the days when Jairus was controlling himself better and not letting his imagination run wild. The body work looks like dechroming and stretching the rear wheel wells. I've got the parts figured out except for the engine. I'm going to use the wheels and tires from the Phantom Vicky. The interior will be fairly stock with a liberal amount of Mustang added such as the buckets added. The engine is a challenge. I recognize the blower scoop from the early Revell funnys. I just need to locate one. I'm sure I have one somewhere. Here's my project car.

  7. Ed: Please keep us up to date on this project. It's something I ought to do. Mike
  8. If I ever can find the Revell 64 Fairlane Thunderbolt molded in white, I'll get started on mine. Guess its time to make a wanted request. Mike
  9. Now that's something you don't see every day. A blue Swamp Rat. A blue Swamp Rat powered by a turbine. A Garlits car that wasn't successful. (I can only count three or four (the short wheel base car as a prelude to the streamliner, the streamliner, the sidewinder and the turbine). I really appreciate this build. Mike
  10. Curious as the magazine and the article. I agree those who take the time to share advance the hobby. Mike
  11. Sadly no they're not. Etzel's products are top notch and produced in small numbers. Needless to say, most of his kits are quite desirable and almost unobtainable. I'd love to have a couple more. Mike
  12. What about the type of styrofoam that's little pellets? Just break them down into little balls. Mike
  13. Send me an email address through PM. I'll take care of you. Mike
  14. Fletch: Is there a list showing when and where these were published? I'd like to read Jairus's comments to be sure I'm not missing anything. Mike
  15. There's also the humor of discussing Gary Schmidt on this website since he started SAE. After he sold it to Kambach it became SA and lost its direction. Mike
  16. Sent Fletch a PM to add me in to the challenge. Sadly, I didn't include my e-mail but did follow up his PM. Now I'm like a kid at the candy store waiting to see what challenge awaits me. This is going to be fun. Mike
  17. The AMT 29 Ford just never hits my radar as a buildable kit. Sure I have a couple in my stash but they're ignored. This buildup is likely to change that. Curious question why didn't you use either the Revell 29 Ford pick-up chassis or the 32 Ford? Thanks, Mike
  18. Let's be fair. Jimmy's products tend to need work. I have found myself spending a few hours of prep for any Flintstone body (of course I'm anal) due to the uneven interior casting. BUT, for the price, you get more than you pay for. His selection is quite wide and his style seems to fit mine. I'd love to see him at a show until I had to pay the bill. In looking at that last picture I can see at least ten bodies I'd have to buy and about ten more I'd debate on. At ten dollars each, they're a great bargain. I know of other resin casters who charge three times the price and their product is not as nice. Mike
  19. Wayne: I'm curious about the lengthening. I thought that was first done on the FWD cars. Was that the case with this one or is the MPC kit too short? Thanks, Mike
  20. Shane: A couple of questions, (I looked but didn't see them in your WIP) where did the motor and rear-end come from? Thanks, Mike
  21. I'd use a scratch filling primer sprayed at a distance so it is almost dry when it hits the surface. Mike
  22. The engine and chassis are mid to late 60's. They're a great combination. The whitewalls were gone by about 1962-1963. Just a thought. Mike
  23. That's a nice build. Normally I do follow the advice of bending more than needed and then let it spring back or if using tube, using brass rods inside for the bend. My problem is I need a U shape that either makes or breaks a dragster I'm working on. Mike
  24. I'm trying to bend some Evergreen 1/16 rod exactly. I don't want the open flame methos as that seems a bit uncertain and risky. I've thought about the oven. Anyone tried to bake the parts to bend them. If so, do you have any secrets? Thanks, Mike
  25. I had my jaw wired shut last summer due to surgery. Get a good blender!!!! Remember protein is your friend. Also try to walk. It stimulates the blood flow which greatly aids healing. Finally, find a recliner and sleep in it if you're still showing any signs of swelling. I wish you well. Mike
