The Most Embarrassing Cars To Drive
moparfarmer replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of the ugliest cars on the road today TOYOTA PRIUS...Aztec was ugly too but they've all either burned, destroyed or been turned in for "Cash for Cars"..Prius may be efficient on fuel but put a battery in one or maintenance on one..Had a cab driver tell me he could fix three Crown Vics for the price his Pruis cost him..Only reason he has one, its cheap on fuel..Got no room for baggage either..Toyotas I think were better built about 8-9 years ago compared to todays Yotas... -
The Most Embarrassing Cars To Drive

Bought a used PT Cruiser..Not anything for turning radius, heavy for a small car, but very useful..Easy to get in and out of..Wife loves it..Leased three for the summer from where I worked and then 3 convertibles before I bought this one..No problems at all except maintenance..Gas mileage could be a bit better but not bad for a heavy car being pulled by 2.4 liters... -

Model Building Stereotypes
moparfarmer replied to MustangGuy23's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I still build although not much since my stoke in 1998..Lots of the car guys in Winnipeg still build or have built and keep their models..A friend of mine in the Street Rod club who I went to school with, and traded and sold kits to when we were in hi school...He still has about 10 of the kits I did back then..Asked if I wanted them when he cleaned house and I said You bet..We still talk models and cars as do most of the car guys in our city when we get together... -
2010 Chrysler 300C Hearse - Update 7.30.14
moparfarmer replied to Tumbler75's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The lower roof version looks more like the real deal..The hightop looked like it was built for a handicapped person who would sit in a wheelchair in the back..Looked also like it would topple over on a sharp curve..You've got the real look now..Finish her up in a nice silver steel(kind of dark silver bluish color from 2006) with a black roof..Very professional looking..Your doing a great job and looking forward to seeing it finished... -

Never built Palmers/Premiers or some other wierd maker..The one that was horrible to me is the AMT/Matchbox..Sunbeam..I was going to build one for our club foreign car contest but quit..I haven't built in quite some time so I figured I'd do okay...NOT...Molded in puke yellow with tons of flash that I coudn't see the small parts..Did the body work(mold lines etc) shot the primer(Dulicolor sandable grey) the painted it (Chrysler Silver Steel Metallic) cleared with (Duplicolor acrylic enamel, which smells like lacquer and dries the same) Polished with 2000 wet/dry then Meguiar's cleaner/Gold Class..Took it to a meeting and was going to trade for almost anything..Ended up with $85.00 in my hand..The guy who bought it said he can't paint for sh** and took it..Every thing worked out well but the kit was sure a bummer to try and build, mostly because of the yellow plastic and flash...

Getting into it, questions. (long read)
moparfarmer replied to Owie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know the Duplicolor is not a hot lacquer as it was years ago..Like William said,,spray light coats and not thick..I use Plasticote or Duplicolor primers exclusely..Light coats then sand then paint..Tamiya is very thin and expensive with small cans..You can but the automotive stuff with a bigger can for about $8.00 per..The primers I get are sandable primer...I like the Plasticoat because the grey is lighter than the other If Plasticote make sure the number on the back of the can is T with three numbers or you will be getting a very soft primer...Good luck "kid".... -
I sold a model to a friend in the states..I thought it was the best I ever did..Didn't know what to ask so he offered $100.00 and I said yes..I was afraid to as that as I thought it too much for a box stock model..He displays it proudly in his collection..I bought a replacement and hope to do another but won't be the same color..Jusst haven't gotten around to it ye..Sure do miss it...

I once had a guy from the local Chevy club if I would build him a model of a seventies Z 28..I said no but recommended a friend who did build pretty good stuff.Well I didn't know this guy hasn't done a model in years..When I saw it at one of our meetings(Winnipeg Model Car Club) it looked like poop..He gave it to the guy who said he would pay $100 just for the build..My 10 yr old grand-daughter could have done better..Glue on w/shield,rear glass,headlights...Just a mess..I sure regret mentioning his name and connection...He is now in a chair and figures he can still do nice stuff..I've suggested to try not to but keep the interest up..It just isn't going to happen...

1970 hemi cuda "what if" build. New outside pics added
moparfarmer replied to freakshow12's topic in Model Cars
Nice "cab" Fred..Have you any idea what a 1:1 with those non options would be worth today? You could retire on the proceeds..Very nicely done and clean,clean,clean...Excellent workmanship...Nice seeing models built like yours....Thanks.... -
The bad thing is, the people who were around when they were new didn't much like them..They bought them because they were made by GM and had the name Oldsmobile so they must be good cars..Very mundane by 80's standards..Not much muscle in the 80s..Todays new modelers, the younger ones coming up don't remember them so they don't want them either..Unfortunately I don't see them being a huge seller either...There weren't many 80s cars that were exciting to own or drive...

That Galaxie is killer..Very well done and clean,clean,clean,....How did you do the headlights? They look pretty cool, better than chrome...

Maybe you could have gone with vinyl like the Sprint Cup series cars do..A decal maybe, it looks good on race cars, why not yours..It could have saved you some work and damage control...Its going to be nice though.Your MOMAD is KILLER....

Looks better without the wash..Very nicely done but sorry, the wheels don't suit a 70s car in my opinion...Very clean build...

I always wanted a JoHan 66 Chrysler 2 dr ht..Unbuilt in a flat box..Finally got one and more JoHan Flat box kits unbuilt..Hell I'am 66 yrs old and will NEVER build some of my collection..Someone saw that I was thinking of selling some of my stash and came over..I asked a fair amout and they bought about $500.00 worth of two kits I had..All I did was smell the air in the box and goke it a couple of times..I have two other built unpainted in mint condition so I could part with it..Sure was hard but hadn't looked at it in two years..Won't miss it...

1/25 Revell Mustang 5.0 LX Drag Racer

Isn't the new stuff created in China? The new tools are done by machine(and not as good as previously) done like in the old days where they were done by hand and had sharp lines. Machines don't do as good a job as before..Live with it, cause thats just the way it is now..Its not going to change in our life time as long as the economy is like it is now..Maybe some day they will go back to human molding processes... -
Panel seperation lines molding?
moparfarmer replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not really mold lines but what I don't like is when people build the 71 GTX or the Cuda or Challenger that Monogram did they don't mold the front pan in and cut new lines where the factory had them on the front of the pans...They didn't have mold lines on the sides where the panels met the body..Some GMs and Fords might but not those Mopars... -
What a STUNNING build..Very nice, especially the colors, sure are different...
