  1. I think Chuck Darnell has it and was going to finish it complete. Life got in the way, but if he still has it, it will be in GOOD hands. Thats the last I heard about it and thats only a month ago.
  2. I remember winning a best paint award from the Hudson Bay Company model contest in Winnipeg in around 1962 or 63. I entered a 40 Ford sedan painted Pactra N'amel and polished with Crest toothpast and Simonize floor wax. White pinwhale corduroy interior and flat white painted under hood and fenders. Car was black. A friend of mine still has lots of my models from them. Won't sell them back or trade. Says when he dies I can have them. Times have sure changed................
  3. My only bugaboo about plug wires are yellow ones. They remind me of those cheap ACCEL stuff you buy from an auto parts store. Most factory wires are black with maybe dark red boots. Sorry bout the yellow guys, I just DON'T like it. On a nice build it makes the car look cheap to me. Don't mean to hurt any feelings but thats just my take on the subject.
  4. Gus, I like what you are doing. Tamiya paint is very expensive, why not try Duplicolor? Get more in a can and more colors and lower price. As for the interior on the GTX, it would look good in White/Black or black with orange seat inserts(only available in 1971) Plain black interior is too bland, just my two cents. Black/white. Black dash/console,package tray/carpet and inserts below the dash on the sides. White headliner/seats/ and door panels. You've got a good thing going, keep it up.
  5. Thanks Mark, most hockey people in Winnipeg are hoping too. I pull for Montreal because I've watched Cary Price and PK Subban against the Moose. Hated both of them but they are successful hockey players now. I think PK will be one of the best defenseman in the NHL before long. He is very steady but is kind of a head case. Hope he matures. Guess in the long run this year I will have to pull for the Canucks with all our farm team players on it. Still hope Detroit kills Phoenix like they did with the Jets in their last year. Do it the same way. Boston and Montreal sill be a very tough series and the cup winner could come from that series.
  6. We don't have a team yet, but hopefully getting close(Phoenix) We have an AHL team The Manitoba Moose who is the farm team of the Vancouver Canucks. I don't really like the Canucks but with the many Moose players they have in the last few years I found myself pulling for them last night on tv. I still like the Canadians. Maybe next year if everything lines up maybe the Jets will do well..........
  7. Is that Duplicolor paint out of a can? How does the Scratch X work? I use their cleaner then Gold Class paste to finish it off. Very nice looking car and the color just makes it........
  8. I do know of quite a few, maybe 30-40 that build/collect cars. Can't say for military/planes etc. Probably just as many or slightly more. I do know that not everybody who builds is not in any kind of club. Most don't like the politics and meeting rules, which we don't have in our small group.
  9. I live in a city in Canada that has approx 700,000 people. Out of those I bet there isn't 200 that build models. I'am counting Winnipeg Model Car Club, IPMS, and the numerous(3-4) train clubs in our city.
  10. I would do as Steve mentioned but would spray from farther away. The mask wouldn't show as predominately as if you sprayed close in. Good luck with your project...........
  11. Got my latest issue yesterday. I also go a renewal form about three weeks ago. Guess I have to renew now. I don't care what the date says either, its just the next issue and I don't like not getting it. The shops don't sell it here in Winnipeg Canada. The one shop that did went out of business a few years ago. He couldn't keep the magazine on the shelf. It sold out that quick.
  12. When you retire, whether you have a pension(which helps) your income before taxes is approx. a little less than 2/3 or what you made. Pension helps but not everyone has one. If no pension the your income is about 1/2 of what it was. Bills to pay,car repairs etc. Good thing my wife works(only part time now). Its still tough. They may be golden years but if you have any debt or payments, there is nothing golden about it. Things get tight.
  13. Put it in the fridge door. It will still work and wont freeze or go solid. Just stays as a liquid. Have had a gap in the fridge for at least 6 months and its still liquid.
  14. Get rid of the surf boards. Love the wide whites. Put in a stretcher and some lights on each corner. That would make a VERY nice Ambulance conversion. Then get rid of the wide whites, go with a smaller white wall. Beautiful job on the conversion. Very nice extended medium headroom ambulance.
  15. I never thought of that with the first restricted cars. The plate thing is what I meant. If you can't beat a Chrysler product, do something to slow them down. Remember when Dodge came back in around the 2000 mark. Kahne and Marlin and Elliot were doing a lot of winning. What did NASCAR do, told them they had to change something or let the Chevies catch up. Always against the Mopars and Fords. Now they let Yota do what they need to keep winning. If Penske had a big winning reputation this year or next you can bet they will do something with them.
  16. Nice model of one of Bobby's cars. The one that started the restrictor plate was a Buick LeSabre two door sedan. The more areo type car and not the Regal.
  17. Very clean and subtle. That Gold finish sure makes it stand out. The stripes add a little class to a neat looking ground pounder.
  18. Had that done in 1985 to the same knee to clean out some cartilage. Continued to abuse it at work(lifting and pulling stretchers, I was a paramedic for 29 yrs) guess it just took its toll.....Thanks, need all the encouragement I can get, now and when the time comes.
  19. I'am paying attention to all what everybody says. In November I have to go and get right knee replacement. Going for the spinal, they say you get drugged up before they inject your back. I'am listening to everyone before this happens. I'am shite scared.
  20. I know I'am going to get blasted here but this is my take. If you want your money going back to help Japan make millions more, keep buying their Tamiya and their new Toyotas and Hondas. Sure the car company makes cars in N.A. but money goes back on new product. Keep supporting them and there will be no jobs in N.A. for our people. Whats wrong with Plastikote or Duplicolor? Just as good, and a bigger can for the same or less money.
  21. Very nice clean build. You did a good job on the window repair and your foiling is flawless. Very well done and clean. Forgot to mention the paint. Smoooooooth...
  22. PATIENCE and the want to do build it. A little knowledge of cars helps some too. If your going to do it, do it right and finish it. Don't just start and get frustrated and throw it in a box. Maybe start with a snapper to see if thats what you want to do..
  23. Winnipeg has changed quite a bit. Chances of getting an NHL team for next year(Phoenix or Atlanta). Car scene in the summer is insane with cruises on Regent avenue and Grant avenue. Keep in touch and maybe we will hook up. I'am going to Oakbank to see Darryl Klassen who has a 68 Dart Hemi and a 70 Hemi Cuda(which was my nephews car originally).
  24. I personally don't like that style of Riv, and I sure don't like how they destroyed it either. Its ugly to start with but what the guy/gal did to it makes it gross. It accomplished one thing, and maybe thats why it was done. To get attention. Like in models and some 1:1. I always said to make a model or real one kinda different, stand back and listen to the comments. Its always good to hear(you have to be able to take criticizm of course). You will always get attention............
  25. Living in Canada all my life, I remember going to all the dealerships in Winnipeg every year and getting brochures. I started doing this when I was about 10-11 yrs old. Imagine what the sales persons and managers though of this little snot nosed kid getting brochures about twice a year. I was building models by that time and always thought the Meteor was a way better looking car than its counterpart Ford. I still remember going into Consolidated Motors on Main Street then going the half block to Century Dodge/Desoto to get the brochures. I know now we don't see any kids coming into the dealership at all unless with mom/dad buying a vehicle. Sure isn't like the old days. Very nice looking, crisp casting of the Meteor.
