  1. 1. A 1975 reprint of a full-color 1933 Mercedes SS/SSK sales brochure, several pages, in perfect condition and like new. $15. 2. A 1950s reprint of a 1932 German-language Mercedes SS/SSK owner's manual, using original printing plates. 92 pages, like new. $35. My contact at the Mercedes factory's Classic Center in California tells me they don't even have these, original or reprint. Invaluable for the research I've done for my 1/16 Mercedes SS.
  2. Do the doors open and close? If not, it's real.
  3. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing the fixes on this one. Erik's talents are amazing.
  4. That is awesome. Besides a Bond movie, it could also be the product of too many years on the roundabout.
  5. Beautiful work. Is the chrome trim BMF? If so, that's one of the smoothest jobs I've seen.
  6. Sunday night, 10 pm Eastern on ESPN2; repeat at midnight and Monday at 8:30pm. If you haven't seen it, make a date for perhaps the best, most emotional racing documentary ever. I want to see it again to find out if this is a better version (More English language/better subtitles) than my DVD.
  7. Well, we can't unring that bell. My sympathies.
  8. A new approach to a modern workbench! Never lose parts again!
  9. Dang, that Krylon looks good for all sorts of uses. I'll have to try it.
  10. From what I saw in the paper today, Chevy indeed has more than a minor interest in the development of the Nationwide Camaro. “Our team of Chevrolet designers and aerodynamic engineers did a fantastic job capturing the great looks and styling cues of the production Camaro, while providing our NASCAR Nationwide teams with a highly competitive aero platform,” said Pat Suhy, Chevrolet Racing Oval Track Group's manager. “For the remainder of 2012, our engineers will be busy working with our Chevy teams on wind tunnel and on-track testing to fine-tune the car in preparation for next year. It will be great to see Camaro compete on the track against its showroom competition starting with the 2013 season opener at Daytona.” There had been no indication that Chevy had changed its mind or that plans were in place to campaign the Camaro in 2013 until Thursday's announcement. “We have been working on this new Camaro for over a year and I am excited to have it approved by NASCAR for 2013 competition in the Nationwide Series,” said Shane Martin, program manager for Chevrolet in the Nationwide Series. Of course, that doesn't mean the Camaro is anything more than one that looks mostly like a street Camaro, and there are plenty of skeptics who recognize the inauthenticity of NASCAR entries (like Toyota's "Scamry"), as you'll see here... http://www.cbssports...-series-in-2013
  11. No. There's not enough profit margin after the R&D and manufacturing for that to make any sense in a shrinking market. The kit manufacturers are just trying to hang on and keep their jobs.
  12. Yes, thank you, Cranky. It would be a shame not to be able to see this stuff. (And Donn, you need to pump up your income with a new DVD or book so you can afford a new computer.)
  13. To me, that's the problem with the new policy with the trucks section. The biggest problem I have on the "other" forum is that you can't tell when a work in progress is done and when they're showing off the finished build, and you have to search through a lot of pages. The Trucks section here doesn't have a "Trucks in progress" or a "Finished trucks" topic, so that problem occurs here. But Harry has a poll going on there, and the results so far seem to share this point of view. If some of you haven't seen it, go vote in the Trucks section. Gregg and Harry have gone out of their way to accommodate truck builders, and this should be taken advantage of. I hope this thread will stay here long enough for members to get the information.
  14. This may have been said before, Donn, but... 1. Your builds are amazingly beautiful, and I have both your DVDs. 2. You're an incredible technical whiz. So why can't you post your own images?
  15. A lot of people here say that a good substitute for BMF is thin, cheap kitchen foil.
  16. This WIP hasn't been updated since last October.
  17. Nice start, but be warned. Pretty soon, this thread is going to be sent down to the Trucks forum.
  18. Ira, you have enormous talents and do great work. But I wish you would stop responding to EVERY comment on your builds. When I see you've responded, I expect to see something new about what you're doing, but all I get is a full page of "Thanks!" "Thanks!" and "Thanks!"
  19. I have put so much into research and materials for each 30s classic that I build that I can't concentrate on more than one at a time while building, though I will have lots of research going on at the same time for other kits.
  20. A generalization, but one that I have lived... I'm a Baby Boomer, raised by people who had lived through the deprivation of Depression and war, and wanted to give their children a better life. As a result, I became part of the most coddled generation to date, swimming in the '50s growth of the economy where more people had access to the American Dream, and the middle class mushroomed in size. Unfortunately, we also became the worst, laziest parents in generations and passed it along to our children, who passed their laziness and random values to their children. To judge the children, of course, look at the parents. The scary part is, today's children will be tomorrow's parents. I'm lucky that I've had a wonderful family and raised an awesome daughter with a great personality who never - (really, never) - created any kind of problem, and is now a successful engineer. There are certainly some great parents out there. And there are plenty of people who never had access to the American Dream and have to raise their children in bad environments. They have their own multitude of challenges, but I guess that's something for sociology textbooks.
  21. ? They all say "authentic scale plastic construction kit."
  22. Erik hasn't posted anything new on this thread for over a year, due to perceived lack of interest. I've sent him a PM to see if he'll pick it up again.
  23. Here's a new short video on the Avanti, shot at the Studebaker Museum. http://money.cnn.com/video/pf/2012/07/05/pf-w-avanti-history.cnnmoney/?iid=F_Jump
  24. As an ad agency copywriter and creative director, I spent a few years creating the advertising for Case knives, including many ads, mailers and annual Case catalogs featuring the creations of Tony Bose. Never met him, but he showed up here a lot for events at the Smoky Mountain Knife Works.
