  1. Hey, both the up top and down top are removable. However, shouldn't the top hinges be visible on the down top? Kit instructions and most finished models don't show the correct position for it, though; there is a slit in the boot fabric that slides down over the upper hinge contact. This is a 500K, but it works the same. Usually, a leather belt holds the two sides of the slit together. And that is one spectacular trunk.
  2. As long as you've got a chrome bezel on the light, a black shell will be accurate. Same for the headlights. Other than that, it will take a bit of extra care to make the hood molding line up with the molding on the cowl. By the way, the windshield frame is ridiculously thin. The failure of the full-up up windows to line up with the windshield can easily be conquered by adding some rod -- half round or other to the uprights of the windshield frame, which would be accurate.
  3. Fabulous. It's going to take me a while to absorb your door fix, but it gives me a lot of hope. I think the last major challenge you have will be the headlight bar. The bar is incredibly thin and easily breakable, and holds both the headlights and horns with extremely small contact points for glue. With just a bit of accurizing on the grille (modern MB logo badge) I think you're home free.

  5. The left door fit looks just fine, but you may have more problems with the right door fit. I have no intention of building mine with full-up windows.

On both my partly built (by someone else) reference kit and unbuilt kits, the bottom door opening area attached to the cowl appear to be slightly warped, probably by the body's molded-on sprue brace that's supposed to prevent that. Most obvious on the right side. I figured it was something like your problem that inspired the builder of my reference build to glue the doors shut, as well as the guy in the step-by-step Korean build journal on the CD. Martin Swire, however, seems to have had no problem, though he said he had to add pins to a lot of butt joints elsewhere.   9. Unbelievable. And I'm coming around to the yellow paint, which is common to prewar classics like the Bugatti T50 Atalante, Rolls Phantom II ("The Yellow Rolls-Royce" movie) and the Rolls from "Goldfinger."
  10. I feel like I'm looking at a restoraton of a 1:1 car. The look, the feel, the stance just look fabulous.
  11. I'm hyperventilating. While this is a rarely built model, I have never seen anyone else attempt that, not even the box art builders. Perfect. For anyone who came in late, go back through the first few pages to see what Harry has had to contend with. You're killin' me, Harry, and setting a very high bar.
  12. Great work on the window tim. Did you do anything to the door chrome? Looks more real than the basic kit chrome.
  13. Late 80s Acura coupe without a muffler, spewing black smoke with a burning valve odor. Made me nostalgic for my 60s Alfas. (In those days with Alfa, "there's nothing like the smell of burning valves in the morning.")
  14. This is just stunning. The engine bay and firewall are unbelievable, a Christmas present for the modeler's eye. The finish of the top looks great as it is -- were you going to add other fabric?

  18. I would never have considered opening the trunk, because I have no idea what you would see inside. Rolls kits open to show tool kits, but this is beyond beyond. I'll just scribe deeper into the panel.
  19. The interior is so crowded on this kit that it will be extremely difficult to see any carpet at all.

  25. Correct. You can't see the seat backs if you put in the luggage. But you'll know in your heart of hearts they are sadly unfinished.
