  1. There's a sticker on the bottom of my 1987 FM MB 300 SL gullwing that says Made in Hong Kong, and the later 300 SL roadster tag says Crafted in China. The rest of my diecasts are boxed up, but I bet they say the same.
  2. Not a Monogram kit. 1/16 Entex. But those Monogram classics can be terrific.
  3. How is the New York Times a retailer? And the story says that Danbury was shut down because the manufacturing plant couldn't pay its workers. I'll go with the investigative reporters at the Times.
  4. I believe one was introduced this year.
  5. Good Lord. Is there a Lotus/Caterham museum for this?
  6. What brand is the Gullwing kit? I can send you massive digital reference, plus my observations on the different needs of different kits.
  7. The only 1/16 Bugatti I know of is the Royale Coupe de Ville, sold on different labels. On the other hand, there is a supposedly 1:18 Grand Prix T59 racer kit from Bburago with a die cast body, which actually closer to 1:15. You'd have to get aftermarket piano wire wheels, but I can supply you with a lot of reference material.
  8. Ditto. And I think his thoughts were intended to increase the understanding of any kit manufacturer and not just Moebius, which has done better than the rest to cope with the issues. A great description.
  9. Yes. See the following other post on this subject...post #4 provides a link to the New York Times article on the subject, confirming the situation. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96867
  10. So, what's your candid opinion of the result?
  11. "It's certainly a BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH shoot. Both mints lost their manufacturers because the Chinese companies couldn't pay their employees. I wonder if they contacted Franklin or Danbury in search of a bailout. My guess is that they did." ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– What the heck is this BLAH_BLAH stuff? I used a word which refers to shooting dice on a casino gaming table, describing a particular and well-known kind of game – a word that is spoken every day on the major broadcast networks, and certainly much nicer than anything on cable. This is totally absurd, and a load of BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH.
  12. See my link to the NY Times story, #4 above.
  13. Excellent all around, outstanding paint work.
  14. It occasionally arises when someone questions why a large-scale kit is posted in the Under Glass section. The disputing reply is almost always from me.
  15. I couldn't resist this one, especially because of the context. States and nations have capitols -- small correction...capital cities have capitol buildings. Words have capital letters.
  16. Strange, but true and unfortunately accurate.
  17. So why can't it be for larger scales, too? If you read around this forum, you'll see there's lots of dispute about having a large-scale topic separate from the others. If the On the Workbench and Under Glass topics can accommodate 1/24-25, 1/32. 1/43 and even 1/64 models, why is there a separation? Totally senseless.
  18. Sad to note that in the space of just a few hours today, and at this time, the subject of this build has slipped down from #4 to #24 on the menu. I go for classics, and I wish more of our members did the same. But that's why it's important that finished larger-scale builds should show up in Under Glass instead of being totally relegated to the mostly ignored Big Boyz section, that few of our members even know exists.
  19. That gold paint is making me re-think my decision not to do the 1/16 Rolls Phantom III in the 2-tone gold of the original car it's based on. Until now, I was going to go with black and burgundy.
  20. BRAVOn. Is the kit chrome as nice as it looks?
  21. I'm giving these a standing ovation. About as good as it gets.
  22. Great stuff, as expected from you.
  23. NY Times story here: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/18/automobiles/collectibles/a-scaleback-in-die-cast-cars.html?_r=0
  24. I think all of the 1/16 Bugatti coupes are the same (Royale Coupe de Ville), regardless of the label. Most of the 1/16 classics sold by Entex were original with other companies and reissued by others as well -- Gunze Sangyo, Academy/Minicraft, Fuman/Bandai, Anmark, a few Revell boxings, etc., etc.
  25. Continually stunning. This may be the best, and most instructional work I've seen on this board or any of the other ones where you post it.
