  1. Well, modelers can use their airbrushes too to make a substandard kit look better. The thing is, box art shouldn't be misleading as to what's possible with a kit. Monogram is doing a pretty good job with this.
  2. http://www.c-lineproducts.com/templates/6x9-Pie-Chart_Practice_Template_C-Line.pdf Simple. Make a square around the circle, then draw a diagonal from each corner to the opposite corner.
  3. I can't imagine why anyone would think anything else -- except for me. I bought Revell's 1/12 Ferrari 275 GTB online (with box art of a 1:1 car), thinking the kit inside might be like that. Not anywhere near close to the ridiculous junk inside. NEVER buy a kit that only has a photo image of the 1:1 car on the boxtop, or only a painting and no images of a finished kit, unless you're familiar with the kit,
  4. I keep coming back to look at this one. Besides a shipload of patience, what was your technique for opening the hood louvers?
  5. Many of us saw the whole conversation evolve and that's the way it came down. Show us some proof that the Truck category reflects the special interests of our moderators and management. You might find a couple of fire engines, but that's it. If I had any major suggestion to make other than dumping Big Boyz, it would be to have fields at the top of the first post of each New Topic building thread to fill in with the following: SUBJECT: [car or truck name] KIT MANUFACTURER: [Revell, AMT, ICM, etc] SCALE: [Obvious] They have a similar set-up at scalemotorcars.com
  6. Definitely one of your best. When did you build it? Did you throw the 540k against the wall?
  7. This may be the very first time I've ever agreed with Casey and disagreed with Harry, but I see absolutely no reason to have Large Scale as a separate topic, especially when the Workbench/Under Glass sections make no distinction between the rest of all modeling scales.
  8. PS: According to the touchy collectors at The AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America), only Americans would have ordered or restored a 540K with whitewalls and chrome wheels. Egad. You also have the choice of building the kit with RHD for customers in Europe or India or the Far East, or LHD for unwashed Americans and Germans.
  9. Awesome. You may want to add some horizontal mesh coming up across the bottom of the fuel tank.
  10. I don't have the numbers, but I do know that down South here, foreign carmakers get major tax breaks and huge infrastructure freebies like roads, utility discounts, etc, to attract their business.
  11. In which case I recommend this book. You may find it cheaper on eBay. http://www.amazon.com/Jaguar-SS90-SS100-Super-Profile/dp/0854293728/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1420257993&sr=1-1&keywords=jaguar+ss+100
  12. So...? Chrysler has been through a number of owners before Fiat, notably Daimler-Benz, then Cerberus Capital Management, later Fiat Chrysler Management as it is know today. Chrysler hasn't been an American-owned company for years.
  13. I have no idea about the quality, but if you're looking for a convertible there's also a 1/16 version. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=1%2F16&_sop=10&_armrs=1&_from=R10&_pcats=1188%2C220&_osacat=2580&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC1.A0.H0.X1%2F16+corvette&_nkw=1%2F16+corvette&_sacat=2580
  14. Those engine shots are beyond belief. I don't know what reference you have, but as a longtime Alfisto, I would certainly go with Rosso Corsa red.
  15. Just killer, as usual!
  16. Some of the best advice I've received on this forum for any kind of paint work is to practice on plastic picnic spoons.
  17. I have several 1/16 Mercedes kits that inspired me to amass quite a bit of reference. My posts here have only been in response to Harry's original post. There's a small amount of reference on the 500K and 540K at my Photobucket account. PM me if you need further information. http://s827.photobucket.com/user/sjordan47/library/Mercedes%20500-540K?sort=3&page=1&_suid=1420040388489012071502627804875 I'll be happy to supply information to anyone who needs it for prewar Mercedes or 300 SL Gullwing /roadster.
  18. An excellent choice. I applaud your taste.
  19. PS: You can also build it without fender-mounted spares and with a clean rear deck. Six of the 26 long-tail special roadster model run had the spare tire hidden under a round lid. Here's Jack Warner's car... For those who are following this thread, this is the car the kit is based on -- The Maharajah -- it includes the 2 fender-mounted spares and 2 side-mounted, long-distance fuel tanks. Maisto made an inaccurate diecast that has both side and rear spare tires.
  20. Here's an unusual 2-tone green from the catalogue.. I still think silver is cool How about Hermann Goering's "Blue Goose" with modified seat and steering wheel to fit His Fatness? Needs 2 bullet holes and a night light in the middle of the headlight bar. Resale Red is always good with a tan interior Or you may be interested in a vintage burgundy... If the interior comes out half as nice as what you did with the Pocher, it will be magic This is an odd Cabriolet A or B
  21. You've already done the Pocher in black and tan. I'd go for deep maroon and tan, or bright silver and blue interior. As you probably know, the original car for the Maharajah was a light cream/beige, and the factory produced it with a brown interior (nicely done in the kit), which he didn't like, and the interior was re-done in red. You probably also know that in general, roadsters had matching leather dashboards while hardtops (limousines, as they were called) had wood dashes. http://s827.photobucket.com/user/sjordan47/library/Mercedes%20500-540K?sort=3&page=1&_suid=141990318931703397679429035634
  22. There have been several threads here on building this kit. I suggest you search the forum, and especially look at the build by John Teresi. There's a lot to learn so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. There is also a current build on this forum that you may want to look at... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=95098&page=1 In addition, your build progress should be posted in the section of this forum called "Big Boyz," because of the large scale.
  23. These are so good that it's hard to tell that so many of them are such teeny scale.
  24. Spectacular piece of work Wish the hood could fit better.
  25. I'll still go with the Times and its reputation for journalistic integrity and their very large staff of fact-checkers, unless there's someone here with credible inside information. Rumor and off-the-cuff opinion are useless. They had maybe 2 well-publicized slips in the last 20 years, but there's a reason why they've been known for many generations as "The Newspaper of Record."
