Do the doors open? Judging by the interior shell, I guess not.

Very, very slick. Is this curbside or do you have engine shots?

Just superb. And while your photography has always been outstanding, this may be your best yet.

Revell 1970 Ford Torino GT 429 Cobra Jet (Non Ram Air)
sjordan2 replied to RandyB.'s topic in Model Cars
That is a spectacular piece of work in every detail. I don't know how so many of you who build in 1/24-25 scales achieve such results. -
THE Color for Particular Cars?

Um,,,okay...okay. That really moves the conversation forward. Um. -
New kits with flaws.
sjordan2 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Why would a post that contains content praising the upside of Moebius belong on another place on the forum, while it merely brings up a positive in relation to the thread subject? This is about more than Moebius. I don't buy typical 1/24-25 kits in general, but I must say that my Revell 1962 Corvette, a new issue, should NEVER have had a major mold seam running across the nose slightly above the corvette chrome script -- hard to correct easily, and not for inexperienced modelers. -
This is going to be interesting. I see you painted the inside of the fenders red, which is a period-correct approach if not for this particular car, so I assume the accent body color will be somewhere in that range. Nice attention to detail.

Maybe Harry can pipe in -- he occasionally uses black window tint spray to tone down chrome and brass plating, and might work on BMF chrome and matte aluminum. Worked very nicely to darken some red velvet carpeting I'm using.

When is a build complete in your eyes?

THE Color for Particular Cars?
sjordan2 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What this thread needs is not only the types of colors for particular cars, but the equivalent model paints to reproduce those colors, with brands and code numbers. Otherwise, I don't see the point beyond the obvious. -
Very well done. The only car that ever came close to being "The People's Ferrari."

Whitewalls on both sides were very common in those days, probably to atone for scuffs on the other side.

I got a little sidetracked looking at some unusual color schemes which turned out to be replicas built in the 70s-80s (and judging by the top on the cream yellow one above, that looks to be a replica. If that matters). Anyway, these are real Duesies, though different from the kit.

Those kit wire wheels look unusually nice. What's the outside diameter of the rims? They may be a good substitute for the somewhat klunky wires on the 1/16 Jaguar SS 100.

That paint is looking great.

Interesting to note that Ford Canada actually produced a Canada-only 1957 Mercury Meteor Ranchero, with different side trim and fins that were more akin to the Ford Ranchero.

The original Gunze Sangyo issue of the 1937 Rolls Phantom III Sports Saloon, totally original boxing. I have this in Revell, Anmark and Entex versions, but this should be a lesson to all kit manufacturers. All individual sprues are in separate clear cellophane, the body is enclosed in cardboard that is attached to the box, and also attached to the body by staples, as are inserts with cryovac boxes for tires, decals, hinges, etc. Nothing can get screwed around in this boxing. The box art shows exactly what the kit can look like.

This is a really interesting question regarding car modeling culture and what type of modeler is willing to pay how much for what kind of kit. As we know, many on this forum have opinions on what's worth the investment and what isn't, averaging up to about $40-$50 for a typical 1/25 kit. But we have many others, such as those identified above, who are willing to pay hundreds for a rare and highly detailed kit of a subject that interests them. Then there are the large-scale Pocher builders who pay around $1,200 for a kit, plus that much or more for aftermarket parts. The most I've paid for a kit was about $125 for a 1/12 Ferrari, and it truly wasn't worth it. Typically, in my large-scale buys of 1/16 and 1/12, I've spent about $50 - $75 for these kits. Good to know what the going prices may be, which can be helpful to our members.

I'll be going into withdrawal through the holidays.

No intention to put words in your mouth, my friend, just responding to the words you said and this isn't your first comment on the subject. But I think you've voiced something that many members wonder about, so it's not necessarily obvious as humor. But I appreciate your intention and can now see your humorous approach. I'm a bit sensitive about the Big Boyz thing, since I think it's not very bright.

THE Color for Particular Cars?

If your car obviously needs dusting or wiping every two-three days after you wash and wax it, like my black-on-black C4 Corvette did, well... -
In my opinion, the "Big Boyz" section shouldn't exist at all. And a huge number of our members don't even know it exists. So lots of people are missing out on some astonishing work. Harry puts his build process there, but posts the finished work here. The "On the Workbench" and "Under Glass" sections are filled with such a wild variation in types of cars in 1/24, 1/25, 1/32/ 1/64. etc., that I don't see what difference large scale makes. And if you're chiding him for "Moderator fails to follow rules," I'd just walk away from it.
