  1. TOO COOL!!!! I'd like to do the Challenger........ Nice work!!!
  2. My laser cutter is a commercial machine.....and true I do not charge what a company may......but it still boils down to the time it takes to set up and the run time for what I charge others for work. I looked at 3D printers as the next step for me........but do not want to spend the time to learn the artwork needed for good fabrication. But if I had....material and time would go into the cost of every item produced. Printing time is wear and tear on the machine....costing you money. My laser tube just went out.....max hours reached......$$$ to replace.
  3. I'd disagree with that. I started laser cutting back about 2002. It was cutting edge then. The charge by commercial shops is by the minute....not how much cutting is done or how big. TIME is the cost. How many jobs you can run in a 24 hour period sets your cost. And with 3D printing it is a combo of time and materials. (same with laser cutting if customer does not supply materials) that sets your cost. A 3D printed body that ties up a printer for 18 hours......time will be a cost factor.
  4. Sad...but very common........
  5. Been using one for ten years or more. I never cut all the way through.....just scribe and snap. I cut some .080 sheet stock last night. Two passes and snap it. Clean 90 degree cut every time. For those with arthritis in the hands a great tool. Mine was under $10. I looked at a all metal unit that MAY be more accurate that was $30....still a deal.
  6. Per Ed Sexton via my employer Dave Burkett at Model King. I really hope that's good enough. Working in the industry for almost 30+ years now I DO NOT DEAL IN RUMOR. Thanks!! I do see why 99% of the other folks that work in the hobby have left all forums.......looks like my time is near too.
  7. We had a thread on this not long ago IIRC.......... But agreed....the 1928 through 1936 Fords reissued in the same form as the 1960's era kits would be FANTASTIC!!! I have two of them and love the many options each kit has. Seems the multiple option kits is kinda gone from RM.......R2 is doing some....but these were really cool. The 34 Ford has been retooled so many times and parts deleted and tossed.....I don't see RM retooling all of them. They didn't seem like they were too happy with Blue Beetle retool......gone already and not to return. Save your cash for an original if you want one.......
  8. Doyosu cut and owned the molds. Eldon imported them first. Later Doyosu issed them again. Pink is somewhat simplified to me.....but love the car!!!
  9. In 2011 I was in So Cal on my regular visit. Peterson Museum had a display of 'famous movie cars' which I HAD to see. My buddy and I went. It was a great display. I got to see and touch the REAL Elanor. All the main American Graffiti cars were there. As I looked at them....something was wrong. These were 'tribute' cars.......I call them fake. And the Great Peterson was showing them as original cars developed for American Graffiti film by George Barris!!!!! George had NOTHING to do with the original cars in AG......but here it was being told as truth.......So it's often a muddy truth out there......
  10. Nice work and photos!!
  11. A bit rude to Mr John Bogosian, designer at AMT that did most of these showrods, isn't it??? I think it would be possible to say 'I prefer Mr Roth's work'....but to say it's blasphemy is a bit over the top IMHO. I never had the pleasure to meet John.....did meet Roth and Daniel....both nice guys.....and what I understand so was John. All three were talented designers to me anyway.......each his own style.
  12. Yep!!! I made a few of those.......Yeller, Mixer and Cashbox too.......Yeller and Mixer made it back......not sure why Cashbox never did.....Mine This was built LONG before Stoogie came out......frame and suspension had to be made.
  13. That kit is in the 'Depth Charger' tooling....so I'll bet it's still around (as is Koo Koo Kar) but these kits are not huge sellers....so you can look for one or two a year. So maybe a year or two down the road.......I do like this one.....lucky to have it in the collection.
  14. I get it!!!!!! Maybe part of it is point of view....... I grew up in So Cal 1960-1970. Dad was Racing director at Valvoline Oil. We attended many automotive events in the region. I often went with Dad to help. Valvoline always ahd a booth set up at shows with a car.....a race car most times. But as we got in early and stayed after close I got to see behind the scenes. I was always drawn to the wild 'show rods' of the day. I even got to sit in a few......like Boot Hill Express. So these wild kinda unreal show rods appeal to me greatly. And for a number reasons......nostalgia one but also as a kit collector. It's not for all I agree....but that's why they make so many different kits each year. The coming 29 Ford from Revell does less for me than Lil Hot Dogger does. We have a number of 29 Ford kits. If you don't like a kit....pass it by. Being negative in a hobby that has shrunk so much it should be long gone offers no positive effect. R2, Revell and Moebius are doing GREAT things and trying their best to pump exciting things into the hobby....and grow it if we can. Overall....let's look at all the positive going on.......and more on the way. Be thankful for the variety.
  15. Very cool spin on both!!!! Thanks
  16. I love the subject matter....but some of those kits are a BEAR to build...... Built the P917 and McLarens also the Alpine......tough!!!!
  17. IIRC there is a nice resin.......so that may be the best way to build one....
  18. In the very final stages........but ETA is tough right now with all the port issues still going on. Soon......soon
  19. Cool spin!!!!!! I have thought about using that kit to build a 1/16 scale Beer Wagon IE Tom Daniel design.......it scales out about right!!!!
  20. I thought so.....but not 100% sure and at times I forget what is public knowledge and what isn't.....so I err on the safe side!!
  21. RIGHT.......AMC was way ahead of the times. If they had gotten the money to build their mini van YEARS befor anyone else did we'd be talking about Ford, GM and AMC today. Owning 2 AMC's right now and more in the past as well as growing up in them......to know them is to love them!!
  22. That's the story Bill told me.......but didn't know if it was 'public' so held back...... Here is mine inspired by the movie 'Cool Hand Luke' car wash car. Closest model to the movie car........works for me!!!!!
  23. I've heard the story on why..........but I'll wait and see if the person speaks up.........
  24. Rode from LA to WV twice in Dad's 70 Econline Club Wagon.....it was the long WB.......good vehcle...will watch your build!
