New Moebius Ford Pick-ups 1971 Ranger XLT AND 1969 Custom SWB
Dave Van replied to SteveG's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I am thankful that someone else understands. If folks knew what Dave goes through to get kit produced most folks would not do it. I am privileged to be allowed to help out with Model King and Moebius. My name is on the side of most boxes and decal art. Burket has no agenda but to produce items to move the hobby forward......if you only knew the whole story..... BTW...the Model KIng Moebius kits cost a little more because we pay the familys of these drivers for the license. We try and give the buyer a little more for their money as we put multiple version options on the decal sheet. Sean does some fantastic art work for the boxes. And Moebius guys are all world class when it comes to plastic models.....we are lucky to have them in this hobby. Nuff said...... -
See my other post on another Moebius kit and you'll get your answer!!!

Along with Moebius' 1971 Ford Pick up I was just informed that there will be an additional kit announced in this line. Dave Burket of Model King will be issuing a Moebius tooled 1969 Ford Pick Up Kit. Details of what each kit will include will be posted as soon as a few small things are worked out. But these two kits are just the start of many related truck kits and some other FANTASTIC automotive subjects!! -

I have gotten to help on this project some....and was not aware that it was going to be announced at Toledo. As soon as they can I am sure Dave Metzner will get on here and give details. But he will be out this week at iHobby. If I get a OK I will detail.....but that will be a few days at best. Just let's say it will make modelers happy! -
2013 to be expensive?!?!?!? I hope R2/AMT/MPC will have some good news Thursday too. Also keep in mind this is info through about June 2013....more on the way!!!

How about the paint 'locker' .....8 jars for $1 ......

If you went during the peak of the shows......you can see how it would be easy to spend $100,000 or more for the show. Just not worth it any longer. An example.....not a slam on unions.....but you are not allowed to move displays, chairs or run any electric lines to display cases without a paid union member from that trade.....that alone is a big cost. Bring in a display car like RM did with Roth one year and cost go through the roof......four days of staffing etc......just too costly for the size of todays market. Not a negative...just a change...the only constant. All is well!!!

Simple economics. These trade shows are more and more costly every year. The move to Ohio was in part an attempt to lower some cost....but still a very costly venture. I went on trade days way back when it was RCHTA late 80's. The show has, to some extent, lost it's importance. Before the net, FaceSpace and all the instant communication we have today getting info out there is a lot easier and, for the most part, FREE!!! I don't go any longer and while I do miss seeing indeustry folks once a year, the show has lost some of the 'need' to attend. I saw most all of the industry insiders at NJ NNL show!!!

Drop me a note for info on decals for the 510....

Lets See Your Replicas of Yours/Your Families Cars
Dave Van replied to Platerpants's topic in Model Cars
I cut off the odd kit valence and made a new one from stacked sheet plastic, sanded to shape. .. The Intrepid did not share much sheet metal with the Concorde. Doors were very close (same shape overall) and a pillars are the same. The rest is unique to each model. The roof is very different. I found this when I parked next to a new Intrepid a few days after I bought mine and saw how much different the two cars were. The Concorde having a more formal roof with more headroom and a rear window smaller and a high degree. PS rear view mirrors are from Lindberg Caravan kit! -

I bought a 1999 Concorde new in late 98. It was the bast hi-way car I ever owned. I was rear ended in it while I sat at a stop light by a driver 'looking for my cigs'. The crash knocked me out and the car eneded up in a bank parking lot half a block away. It was totalled needless to say but I was unhurt, other than the black out) so I credit the car for that. My model started as the curbside AMT kit. I removed all the molded on aero spoilers and wings. Made a new lower valence for the front clip. The kit had no emblems so I made some on my ALPS printer. More stock like wheels were found in a aftermarket Japanese wheel/tire kit. Candy Apple red paint was matched to the factory option color (that cost me $500 extra on the real car) One of my favorite models. I'd like to build another with a interior and engine bay.....but the chassis is from a first gen Concorde and not the 1999-2003 car as the model has the motor mounted side to side but the real car had the motor front to back. -
Almost lost my son Saturday night.....

Thank God it was no worse than it was....sounds like it could have been!! Reminds me of what my mom would tell me the day after I'd come home a 2 or 3 am......'nothing good happens after midnight'!! I hated it when she would say that...but understand better now that I have 3 kids!! -
I'd love to atteand a model show of any kind.....but you also need to remember many more folks live in areas that never have shows than live in areas with shows. The last show that was within 3 hour drive was 5 years ago and must not have done well as it didn't happen again. Our Wally does not have models and would not carry what I buy anyway. My local hobby shop is 3 hour drive. If Wally did carry models I'd check them when I went (not often) but just to kill boredom while the wife shops.

Pretty sure I recognize those prose.....even if condensed some!! Having seen the kit myself it will be great. The hobby as a whole is bringing out some great stuff......Just wait for iHobby......we will all need 2nd jobs! -
Got mine yesterday and this issue is better than my 1969 version!! With clear and green tint glass, glossy box and diorama and the solar power roof sticker is back but with a slightly different pattern but thumbs up to R2 for putting it back in. Didn't need more of these as I stocked up when my LHS dumped the 2000 version for $9....but this is nice.
-
Glad someone is doing this one!!! It's on my movie car list....but so many in front of it I'd be lucky to get to it....Good start!!!
-
Who won overall??? I was schd to go....but things happened.
