Most Dupli-color factory match colors dry flat. Not milky....not sure what that is. But a gloss coat is needed 99.9% of the time.

In the late 1960's....68 and 69 maybe ...the LA Times ran a new car special section each fall when the new cars came out. The entire front page of the section was a 'cartoon' drawing of a busy 'city' with 100's of car related tings going on. Always wondered who the artist was.....it sure looked like Bell's work....any one ever heard of these??? RIP

I have the Modelhaus and Mint 1/24 Tuckers. I have put it on a number of suggestions lists. But every person in the industry says the subject is too narrow for a plastic kit today. I've even suggested the NASCAR version along with a custom version to utilize the tool enough to pay for itself. And every time I get told it would never work. I still don't agree....but those with the $$$ say no...so don't hold your breath or bet the farm....etc!!

Operating in 1/25 scale??? Way beyond my skill. Nothing is impossible....but it would require micro machining skills and equipment. A static Photo-etch would be within most folks ability but working....nothing off the shelf is close. There are some chain drives in HO scale model RR parts suppliers....but they would sill be huge in 1/25 scale.

This was more a paint test than a serious build....although I did like the results given what I started with. I used all Dupli-color paint. Light gray primer, silver and then strawberry red. I liked the results.

The car sat at the shops at the corner of Hwy 29 and Morehead Rd for years. About 1974 while my now brother-in-law and I skipped school to make the rounds of NASCAR shops (we did this often!) After Frank Warrens shop at Hwy 49 and Morehead Rd we headed for The K&K Hyde shop. The Daytona had a ratty brown cover on it. We asked Harry if we could take the cover off and look at the car. He said 'sure' and walked out there with us. After we looked at the car for a few minutes Harry said 'It's for sale'......without a moment we asked 'how much??"....Harry said $5000.....the deal of the century if there ever was one. But to two pretty poor Carolina boys it might have been a million......Always wondered if we had the $5000 if he'd sold it? After all just 3 miles away at Tiger Tom Pistones were 30 old race cars for sale in the $1000 range....some more famous than this Daytona.......Really wish I had the $$ back in the day........

Nice build! Just a FYI the car never ran a single race decaled like that! That was the LSR car with 1971 style numbers and all the names in the rear stripe. So you built a model of a pretty rare 'bird'!

It is funny.....but I see where they were going..... Gurney drove a Ford, not that model, #121 at Riverside, which is kinda correct for that picture. But in the sixties if any one had heard of NASCAR in the UK it was Daytona....so....marketing magic!!

Speaking of re-boxed kits.......here is a AMT kit FROG was another UK manufacture that sold US kits under their label. This one is from my collection. A GREAT kit that I wish was still around. It was about 4 building options including a nice NASCAR version shown on the box. Stock, custom and drag was possible too.

Both are very nice. But you got Davey perfect.
