  1. I was mad at Kalmbach, SA(E) owners, when they allowed me to renew the day before they shut the doors. I looked at my payment and it was to 'Magazine Agents Inc' so it was not Kalmbach directly....they were evidently using a vendor to handle this info. HOWEVER in the end Kalmbach should have let this company know a day or two early. You do not shut a magazine overnight....Kalmbach knew it was coming for a while. PS: There is hope for a new magazine.......just wait.....
  2. Disagree....... 'MY' independent hobby shop has 2 Hobby Lobby within 10 miles. He has great service and much better selection on CRAFT items. None of the wall art or 'decor' that HL has......but that matters little to my wife or me.....a great store for both of us. Also...do not dismiss the 95% of the rest of Hobby Lobby. I buy matt board, wood, craft paints, glues and things like white and red pencils I use for dash gauges. And in the jewelry dept I have found some cool little detail items. My Hobby Lobby is 1.25 hour drive, Hobby shop almost 3. I go to the hobby shop when I can but that is a all day trip.....HL I can run to. This COVID BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH has been much harder on my hobby shop than HL is. Thanks
  3. If R2 got ten cents a pound over scrap value....they made a GREAT deal!!!!! And right now scrap is nothing.
  4. Don't forget his band and recording career!!!!
  5. My post above explains Varney model train stuff.
  6. Glenco had many of the Adams tools Life Like had. They issued some of the 1/48 horse wagons recently. Life Like also got the tooling for the Varney rail kits. They were in production up to about 2 years ago......Mantua had them last.......maybe MRC now. Goes to show well made tooling from the 50's 60's has a long life!!
  7. Tom is a little older than I so he earned it. He did say on his forum he has a BIG stash of vintage kits he will be selling on ebay. So he changing his biz as much as anything. He has a number of cool collector cars too....which hopefully we can start showing again soon!
  8. The RR kits were on ebay about the same price....I picked up another as we may never see it again.....odd kit for a German company to produce!
  9. Spotlight Hobbies will continue now run by employees that bought the biz.
  10. The Varney and Adams tooling is interesting. Yes....it ain't what we may have hoped for....but for those of us that LIKE old odd kits.....maybe good thing! Don't be such negative Nancy. Atlantis is selling a lot of kits through Hobby Lobby and getting folks that may not see kits anywhere else. THAT is a good thing.
  11. I was at my HL yesterday and shelves were almost empty. But at the end of the isle was 9 boxes of models. Lots of re-stock...I didn't see new stuff.....but I didn't go through every box. Good to see stuff selling!!! I got a Revell Rubicon Jeep and sanding film.
  12. All were announced last year, Been out. Atlantis has a 'casual' way of doing things.......we have to be on their schedule.
  13. How I am not sure......but my years in the IT field I hear others with the same story. My guess is a defect in the disk that surfaces after years. There are a number of sites and even Youtube videos on how to fix corrupted DVD....but none worked. I also have a DVD copy of the Japanese release of the 1982 Blade Runner, rare film. it stopped working a few years after I bought it. Played maybe 3 times.....very well cared for. Things happen.
  14. I did that for the original Car Model magazine of the 60's-70's. It was great and well worth it.....until it got corrupted. Not a scratch....the data would not read any longer. I contacted publisher.....their solution....buy another DVD......
  15. A guy who does 'man on the street' show did one about July 4th. Two people he stopped to interview said they were elementary school teachers, the host laughed and said 'you'll be the first today to get all my questions right' First question was 'What is the year of Independence?' Both said they didn't know but it was '17 something'. Enough said.....
  16. The NASCAR model forum crashed and we lost the data base. With the crash went posts from people that worked in NASCAR in the 1960's 70's and are now gone.....and so is all the first hand info they had given us.
  17. I remember your stuff......that era of the magazine was great!
  18. I just sent a note to White River productions about SAE. They publish rail themed magazines right now but they have saved a number of magazines from closure. I sent a note asking if they might be interested in SAE as there is now a market with no viable print magazine. Maybe if we let them know we want a good magazine.....we can try. The magazines they did save are now 100% better than they were in their last incarnation. e-mail them....... info@whiteriverproductions.com
  19. Looks old school F1 to me!!!! Cool car!!
  20. They took my $$$$ 7/13 and smiled......now this???? Overnight decision to close??? NOT!!! I hate it on many levels......
  21. ZERO model car magazines in print on a regular basis........1970's all over
  22. If the seller uses ebay shipping the total postage will not be on the label. Ebay gets a slight discount so they MOST times do not print the cost......but the seller can force it to print the cost on the label.
  23. That was not derogatory.....but a compliment!! I was a F1 fan. Now the F1 cars are getting DNF's for software errors!!! Really??? These Supermods are real cars......I know for a fact none get a DNF because the sensor software for wheel camber fails!!! Not the last time I saw them. They have the 1970's F1 spirit of innovation and old world craftsmanship. Maybe as I am a backwoods guy living in the most rural area east US I see hillbilly and redneck as better than the rest of the world today....but thats me. thx
  24. The film was on TCM last Friday...knew of the film because of the Mustang,,,,,first time seeing the film. It was Blade Runner meets Mad Max......let's see that Mustang. Great start!!
