painting chrome trim/body
Dave Van replied to peter havriluk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've been using Molotow spray cans on the past few builds. I apply body color, then on the Superbird the rook color. I then masked off the chrome trim and spray it. LOTS of masking but I liked the results and foiling has become difficult for me...... -
Hobby Lobby re-opening
Dave Van replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All I can say is many companies I know are getting product from outside the USA. Affected, yes. 100% shutdown.......no. I was referring mostly to hobby products. How is R2 having product made in China and we will take delivery of a bunch of new stuff TUE?? Unless the boxes come in with a tag saying R2 moved manufacturing.....they came from China....multiple container!! But whatever you say. Checked the Port of LA CA.....traffic down 25% and getting containers through is slower than in 2019.....but everything that wants to dock is being handled. I did not check all ports reports. -
My dealer say TUE maybe......looking forward.

This build was inspired by the GONE Plymouth........I have a Elanor that has been in progress for maybe 15 years!!!!

The original film seen in theaters is different than the film released by HB Halicki's wife. The currently available DVD has a entire sound track and many voice overs redone. I do not like what the wife did to the film but am thankful see got it released. I am not sure why the entire sound track is changed.....HB's wife claims it was missing or damaged.....but I have a copy so I'd think she does.....maybe I am wrong. If you ever get a chance to see the original....do!!!!!

VERY well done. Nice to see a REAL GONE Mustang and not that Cage thing. Having seen the film 100's of times, saw the promo car at the Peterson and one of my favorite movie cars.......I love your work!!!! I got to touch the real car when it was at the Peterson. My buddy and I went early one day. We are both old hot rodders. We were there to check on my buddies car that was on display at the time, a Hudson Terraplane. But this security guy kept following us closely.....way to close....as if we were going to steal a car!!! So my buddy went over to the other side of the room where Elinor was and got the security guy to follow. In a act of defiance I took my pinky and touched the tire!!!! A REBEL!! I understand the rules.....and having a car there like the security.....but this guy was a little over the top!

Epic Ad Fail, eBay...
Dave Van replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like the ads 'check out the newly listed vintage Lionel trains'. The photo is of a yet to be released N scale locomotive. That's like saying 'check out the vintage Buddy L' and showing a new AMT 1/32 scale Avanti kit.... clueless...... -
Current Hot Rod / Street Rod trends
Dave Van replied to OldNYJim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I kinda feel the current trend is 'do what you like'.......... That may be wishful thinking on my part as my 46 Ford coupe is very mild 350/350 engine trans, Mustang II front and rear suspension and will soon wear a semi gloss black paint with red smooth steel wheels w/baby moons. NOTHING ground breaking or new.....but solid as a rock and more fun that one should have! Weather you go high dollar or low I think folks are accepting as long as it's done well. When I visit So Cal and attend 3-4 car shows a week....it's the vibe I get.... Can do your own thing be a trend??? -

GM is VERY....VERY different to work with concerning model kits. Ford WANTS a kit made and finds someone willing.....Ford gives lots of data (of back in the day drawings and photos) We got all those Ford road racers from Monogram because Ford wanted them made and Monogram was willing. (didn't hurt Monogram had two die hard Ford guys in control at the time) So while I'd buy a mid engine Vette kit, I'd like a race version over street, but either will find a few in the stash. I have not worked with FCA but understand they are not big on models either.

I was NOT checking the Indycals site on purpose!!!! Now that I know they are out there......?

If it has stock caps and sells that's OK

I bet someday we will get a more bone stock version with maybe base model wheel covers.......... You do not want to psy licending for a TV show thats gone forever.......unless your Trek!!!! But there are still TREK versions on TV now......
