  1. It is the Revell Curbside Snap kit I sure hope it will happen Thanks everybody There is a comparison of the 63 Stingray and new version in the Current Road & Track
  2. Super well built. Cannot not imagine one any better.
  3. Your custom touches have really made for an interestingly unique and attractive Cobra.
  4. Thanks guys. All these cars made a real impression on me as a kid so for me they were must builds. Maybe that's why Candy Apple Red cars were always amongst my favorites at car shows. My next project involves attempting a House of Kolor Candy Apple Red paint job.
  5. Super nice Deuce 3W. A very good demonstration of what a great looking hot rod can be built from the Revell Deuce kits directly from the box with well done paint and careful assembly. Spark plug wire are maybe the most essential detail item on any model car.
  6. I have not been able to track down any info on what became of the 63 after it appeared in Rod & Custom Thanks Bob Thanks Jim
  7. On the cover of the May 1963 issue of Rod & Custom magazine was Big John Mazmanian’s Candy Apple Red 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe. Almost new it was mildly customized. In addition to the paint job, the front bumpers and most emblems were removed, two additional taillights added, the interior was reupholstered and it rode on polished Torque-Thrusts. I have not been able to find out what became of this car and other than the color R&C cover there is only one black & white photo I came across on-line. I do have a copy of the May 1963 R&C for remembrance and reference. This has always been a car on my to build a model of list. Having just completed the Mazmanian Willys the time was right to finally build this Corvette. I still had a couple of AMT ’63 Vettes in my stash but I had been saving a Revell snap kit specifically for this project. My modification followed the Mazmanian formula. The two additional taillights are aluminum tube housings with AMT lenses. The front grill is made from Evergreen styrene strips chromed with Bare Metal Foil. The outside door handles were opened up. Here is the Stingray with two other Mazmanian cars. The '61 Corvette was built 16 years ago with a body combining the front of a Revell '58 Corvette and the back of an AMT '62 Corvette. The Willys was recently completed and is pretty much box stock.
  8. Great to see a full detail engine compartment in 1/24 in your very attractive GT40.
  9. Very well done. I have seen a few DeKon Monzas at vintage events. I am very impressed with your build.
  10. That's as good as it can get. Fabulous build.
  11. That roof is so perfect with the slope of the trunk and the shape of the fins. It is a radical yet restrained custom and gorgeous in all respects. It would be fun to read Mark Gustavson's Custom Clinic comments regarding your model.
  12. Thanks Misha - The Sam Barris and Hirohata Mercs were poster cars. I also built the Mike O'Neil black 32 3W Coupe which was the first poster car and the Dennis Kyle orange Hi-Boy Deuce which was never featured in RJ.
  13. Thanks Larry Thanks Hector Thanks Claude
  14. A fantastic looking replica from a great era of drag racing.
  15. Very well built replica of a great subject of drag racing history.
  16. Thanks Brian Thanks David. My first attempt was with Mr.Color clear red over gold. It looked good but not Candy Apple Red. Thanks James
  17. Yes the Alclad is transparent. I hope I have enough to paint a Mazmanian 63 Corvette and if so will clear coat. I still have to try Hours of Color Candy Apple Red but so far Alclad has come the closest to the look. Currently I think Mazda has the best Candy Apple Red.
  18. I took some more photos under different lighting. The first ones are outdoors in bright sunshine and there may have been some reflection in the paint.
  19. Thanks Bob - I have been watching your build. Looking forward to seeing it Under Glass
  20. As a kid I was very attracted to the beautiful cars of “BIG” John Mazmanian that were featured in the car magazines. This attraction started with his 1960 Corvette drag car, followed by his mildly customized ’63 Corvette Split-Window and finally his most famous car – the ‘41 Willys Gasser. All were Candy Apple Red with polished wheels. Back in 2005 I built a model of the ’60 Corvette and have had plans to do the ’63 Stingray for many years. For my latest project I have built a model of the Willys Gasser as part of a series of Rodder’s Journal Poster Cars. The real car no longer exists with the poster car being a gorgeous tribute differing in some ways from the original. My model was built almost directly from the box with no modifications and very few additions but it still was a fun and satisfying build. Over the years I acquired six Revell Willys kits – three Gassers and three Street-Rods. Previously I had only built one of those as a Custom. Chassis parts from the Street Rods have found their way under various projects as has the blown HEMI. PAINT - Alclad Candy Apple Red Enamel over Tamiya Gold. In retrospect even though it looked like it did not need it. Alclad is kind of fragile and should be clear coated. The photo make it look like the is metal flake or orange peel but there is no indication to the eye DECALS – Combination of kit supplied and Slixx ADDITIONS – Passenger seat, seat belts, red film for side windows, hood hold down latches from the old Revell Stone-Woods-Cook Willys
  21. I really like your project and look forward to its completion as I have never seen a full detail Chezoom model. No matter what some people may feel about Boyd as a person there were some incredible cars that came out of his shop that deserve a prominent place in rod & custom and model car history.
  22. WOW Lil John himself would be impressed with what you have accomplished so far.
  23. This is going to be one fantastic looking UTE.
